Well, well, so Dru escapes her fetters after all. And Nat appears to have holed his hat instead of his head. Quite a Friday cliffhanger.
Something a little odd about Dru’s face in the final that doesn’t show up in the sketch. Something about the mouth and eyes.
9CWL: Ah, a dancer’s poor tortured feet. The one ugly side of the beauty of ballet. They must have very light colored carpeting. And have come up with quite a creative solution.
ALLRIGHT!
maybe I was on the right track a while back when I said
“How could I forget this? Tues … Feb 3 … in “Lena the horrible” …Dru says “you never believe you have a choice. That’s how hell operates.” … possibly Dru can get out of this mess with no difficulty if she realized it.”
Now to find out if I’m correct in speculating that Nat didn’t damage himself but only his hat, and to see if Dru and Nat are gonna hunt down Tom T. (assuming he’s still in a huntable state) for vengeance.
9CWL: Wouldn’t all those foot injuries eventually cripple a person? As important as feet are to a ballet dancer, I would think they would want to protect them as much as possible. I realize it’s sorta like ball players having shoulder and elbow problems–it’s all part of the game. But still, I wouldn’t think they would be so callous (pun intended)….
If Tom T could recover from what Dru did to him, Nat will recover from a mere hole in the brain housing group.
And everyone agrees our dear Dru in Black is free of the spike-wires?
Besides, Lena, Roger and all haven’t been actually active in this yet. Don’t think for a minute that Nat’s partner won’t come to bail him out. Or avenge him, if nothing else.
Well, it looks like this settles the question of how many shots Nat fired. If you assume it’s a 6-shot revolver, this looks like #6, his last shot.
Dru might be free of the black wires now, but who knows for how long. After all, this is h-e-l-l-, you know.
So, my question is, which I’m sure is shared by many others, how are the Lena characters involved in all this? It’s h-e-l-l- for us to have to wait and find out.
There may be no blood, but there’s a trail of, of… what? Sparkles? Bubbles? Pixie dust? I suspect that’s instad of blood; Nat’s “essence” blown away. Perhaps only temporarily. I sincerely hope.
Off up the mountain hill for me; I have to be at work in 8 hours.
The one thing that we all have lost sight on with this arc is that dreams are not baseline reality. We are not bound to the rules and laws of nature in them. That is why there is no blood and why our heroes are all safe for now. This is Tom, or someone who wants us to think its Tom, playing headgames with them and maybe the people of New York. The way out of the dreams clutches is shock and suprise. seeing Dru in danger made Nat do the unthinkable to free her from the mental prison of the fetters by making her fear his loss. I dont know Im just venting ideas here
Think it’s significant that the bullet track moved a little downward going from the sketch to the final? The sketch shows the bullet track directly in line with Dru. The final is not. Like maybe Brooke wanted to emphasize that the bullet didn’t hit her?
We have a veritable army of characters on stand-by alert: Geoff, Pibgorn, Maurice, Lena, Roger, Satori, and maybe mysterious Igor…. And there are more on deeper lurk, if needed!
I think Nat hit what he was aiming at. The question is, why was he aiming at his faithful fedora? As I asked “last night,” might it include an unknown magick?
I think Nat has figured it out - it’s all a dream, not real. That means that the skewers, the shocks, everything is only as strong as the imagination of the dreamer.
The question is, who’s dream was ths anyway? If this is Nat’s dream then perhaps he just “woke” himself up. Notice Drew is not only free but no longer in Dinah garb either.
Of course, I’m fairly new to this strip and unfamiliar with the ways of the master, so please save me room on the confusion couch.
BTW: Where do you all see 9CWL this early. The only site I’ve found it on doesn’t update until midnight pacific time and that’s 1AM for me.
@Magasek: The Houston Chronicle posts its comics, including 9 Chickweed Lane, at 12:00 midnight CT (a couple or 3 minutes later on Saturdays, usually). Perhaps there’s more significance to Nat’s hat & the fact that when he & Dru “mind-meld” she ends up wearing it … like it’s a living think keeping him confused for Tom and she took it on to clear his thoughts & now he needed to catch it off guard ??
Or maybe it’s weirder yet, but I’m betting (tho’ not heavily) that Igor’s involved.
@ the old wolf on a more certain note, I’m working on Dru’s project again after a lengthy hiatus — interested in testing the progress?

The next day Black beard and his new crew began to take ships. The period of amnesty was over, Blackbeard had gone back to pirating.
It was time to call out the Royal Navy Contingent . Lieutenant Robert Maynard got the order and he and his men set out to bring Blackbeard and his pirate crew to justice.
The chase had begun. After a few problems with the ships sloop. Maynards ship, The Ranger was under way again.
Cannons fired and men were injured and killed. Maynards ship kept up the attack and destroyed the rigging on Blackbeard’s ship forcing it to go ashore.
Blackbeard took ten of his men and came onto Maynard’s ship in an attempt to gain control of it. In the sword fight that followed Robert Maynard hand was injured. Blackbeard had his opening, but before he could attack he was shot and wounded, Another one of Maynards men snuck in and cut Blackbeard in the face.
Blackbeard was losing blood fast, as he began to load his pistol he collapsed and died from blood loss. Maynard then cut off Captain Blackbeard’s head and hung it from his bow as a warning to all other pirates in Blackbeards crew.
EPILOGUE
The battle was over at last. Blackbeard was dead Lieutenant Robert Maynard and his men began to cheer and celebrate, as they headed back home.
Somewhere off in the distance The pirate ghost named Riff spotted the lieutenant and gave him a nod of recognition. Maynard returned the nod and watched as the pirate ghost named Riff disappeared under water to return to Davy Jones’ locker. THE END

Me, I count everything from the day an arc starts to the day it ends.
A fantastic saga of adventure both high and low, of forbidden passion and iambic pentameter, of fays, fools, organists, demons, accordions, heaven, hell and Shakespeare, Pibgorn follows the whims and flights of its eponymous fairy heroine as she plies her conviction that there must be more to life than depositing dew drops on dandelions and sleeping under mushrooms.
