Nat Bustard’s actually going to do something!
Wait, Nat Bustard’s going to do something?
This will not end well.
It is man vs. man, so he does have a shot.

Thank you, Brooke!

Very wordy (maybe that’s why the Sketch is pantomime); but it looks to me like Nat is about to unload on Terrible Tom! –At least, I hope so!

Wow! Dru saying “I can’t”? I know that’s not a first for her, but I’m sure she must hate saying that.

WOW!! Nat’s gonna be a part of whatever retaliation comes down on Tom T.? And he seems to have some insight into whatever it is that our ladies are experiencing …

Ahh… Nat is about to show Tom what it means to be a real Bustard…
Sisyphos said, 3 months ago
It is nonetheless still curious to me how Nat Bustard, unrepentant demon, manages to keep a grip on what passes for reality while everyone else directly involved, demon, fairy, or human, gets caught up in the magic….

Wally Boag, the Clown Prince of Disneyland.
If you remember Wally from The Golden Horseshoe Revue at Disneyland, this book is for you. If you’ve ever enjoyed The Enchanted Tiki Room, this volume is for you. Read my gratuitous plug here.
For what it’s worth, I have no financial interest in this book, but Wally is a dear friend, and I’m just tooting his horn a bit.

And I’m amazed at how clingy the remnants of fabric are on the top of Dru’s tattered red dress. Just enough to keep “things” covered. Well, maybe not so amazing, if it’s her plumage, and not actually clothing.

A quck paraphrase of Nat’s soliloquy: “All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream.”
Remember that today is Wednesday, leaving two episodes to come, this week.
Remember Tom and Nat’s previous encounter.
Remember that Suzerain is back…with an adult ‘suzerain’ in the person of Lena.
Remember that Geoff is now asleep.
Remember all these things and you may conclude - as I do - that we are about to see a major ‘Convergence in the Force’, as it were…
There! Having done my OTC duty, duly making Off The Cuff commentary worded vaguely enough to make it sound like I have some notion of what’s actually going on, as well as a Fearless Prediction (if caught or captured in a mistake, my secretary will disavow all knowledge of my actions), I can now try to get some work done.
I leave a fresh pot of Peete’s Major Dickason’s blend on the sideboard for the late-night crowd…

YOUTH DAY IS IT.
How many of us here can truly say we’re youths.
I have cerebral palsy in my legs. With an occasional flare up of pain every so often. The pain makes me feel old sometimes.
But I’ll go along with it being YOUTH DAY
Glad I’m not in a wheel chair and can walk.

When i began reading Nat’s “Stupid” speech, i was wondering if we were about to get the Big Reveal that Bustard was the actual villain of the piece all along and was beginning to monolog.

The one time i was at Disneyland (1984, when the World SF Convention was right across the road) i didn’t do anything but rides.
OTOH, i do know who Wally Boag is, because i saw him on “The Muppet Show”. [http://tinyurl.com/p8wyrw]

Reading today’s strip, I thought of the scene from Airplane! where Stryker says “the sh– s going to hit the fan” and they actually scoop some into a fan…
UncaAlby said, 3 months ago
The only gag I remember from “Airplane” was:
“Surely you jest!”
“No I’m serious, and don’t call me Shirley.”
Oh, and the auto-pilot.
pittfall said, 3 months ago
Well, I can tell there is 24 comments, I just can not see them. Nat’s trying to tell her that it’s all a dream and that she can just drop down anytime she wants.
I like the first panel. If this were a live action film, I’d imagine echoing footsteps from Nat as he walked up, like he was in a big open room with hard floors.

“Youth” day?
Its all in the mind! (Something that Nat seems to be able to hang on to…..)
Never mind, act your shoe size, not your age! An advertising slogan that works in the UK, probably in the US, but not in Continental Europe, where they use a system where UK 10.5 (male) equates to 45. Then again, this might give an insight into the apparent lack of humour in Germany.
:-)
Nabuquduriuzhur said, 3 months ago
You’re probably right, Pittfall.
Maybe it’s like Spock in Spectre of the Gun, where he’s convinced there is no reality and wins the day by convincing the others that the bullets aren’t real.

Is he talking about color, or did Tom steal Anton’s toupee? And how would Nat know this?

Well, it says on my calendar that it is International Youth Day. However, as a personal choice, I’d like to make today:
The International Day of the Paper Clip
These guys have so many used besides fastening paper together and giving unwanted advice about writing letters and so on, they just gotta have their own day.

RIFF
By ladywolf17
Prologue :
Me name be Riff. I be a pirate, or so I thought. I stood on t’ deck o’ Queen Anne’s Revenge. This be Blackbeard’s ship. This was not a meetin’ o’ t’ minds.
I was t’ be punished for me treachery. I was bent over t’ railin’, me hands bein’ held down by a pirate on both side o’ me. Captain Blackbeard borrowed a whip, then dealt me twenty lashes across me aft, (that be back, for those of ye who don’t speak pirate).
After t’ lashin’ was done, I was tied up and made t’ walk t’ plank. ” Time for ye t’ be visitin’ Davy Jones’ locker, matey”. Blackbeard said and then pushed me into t’ water, that was t’ be me grave.
I wasn’t afraid o’ death, no I felt strangely at peace. To t’ bottom o’ t’ sea I sank, and thar I went t’ Davy Jones’ locker.
By all means, that should have been t’ end o’ me, but it wasn’t. And so begins me haunting tale o’ revenge.
TO BE CONTINUED

I’m thinking, after Dru’s vampiring “melding” of minds with Nat, that that’s not physically Nat of course, but either a trace of his psyche or simply a representation of Nat mentally communicating with Dru … So perhaps he’s able to “see” what’s going on because he’s only a psychic bystander in this case
Also, if we go back to when Tom shot Bustard off of the boat, he was busy talking about distractions … which is in essense what the bachelor gameshow and everything else is … a distraction to keep everyone entranced from realizing that their entranced
Remember, in the “real” world, Nat and Dru are at the center of the volcano, Pib is frozen solid, and Oognat is comatose somewhere with what appears to be a wolf nearby standing vigil.
And somehow Dru seems to be getting an inkling, but Nat’s words “Why not” seem to suggest that he’s telling her “Wake up, Dummy. Just wake up.”

Brother Bustard is the quintessential gumshoe. Sometimes a little slow to understand it all, but once he catches on, the subject stays caught.
He may even take a few lumps yet - as he already has - but he will not let go.

The game is, indeed, afoot. And the gumshoe is hot on the heels of Tom T. Nat, it seems, has a soul. He will be OK if he watches his tongue and does not act so straight laced.

Hi, jparsons220! Happy Birthday, and welcome to the couch. I assume that you’ve been lurking for a while, and therefore need no warning about the many and varied forms of wild life (quadrupedal, that is. There’s really no point trying to warn about the other posters: they’re wild, woolly, and really great cooks!) Find yourself a cushion and enjoy the confusion. We’ll all have cake later.
Hi, Llefty; how they goin’? Don’t llet Gruff chew your tail.

This could play out with some pretty big issues embedded into it - like how does a being with a soul and a moral compass fight against someone who has none? How does “good” successfully war against evil without compromising its nature, when evil will use any tactic it can think of?
The scope of this arc just got a whole lot bigger. I am looking forward to what’s next.
I do expect there might be some twists and turns ahead, since the arc is only a few months old. But I am now officially on the edge of my seat.
