The sketch has 3 panels with Dru. The final, only two. And the viewpoints are all slightly different. Doesn’t look too encouraging for our favorite Dru. At least there doesn’t appear to be any blood or anything oozing out. Looks like h e l l ‘s version of acupuncture. Still looks painful though.

I think the compositional rearrangement between sketch and finished art today intends to focus more strongly on Drusilla in her suffering and on the implicit psychology–which is why I referred a post or two ago to her “goodness” even though she is by nature a demonic succubus. She has apostasized, and is, whether she admits it or not, crossing over to the Daylight-side, slowly but surely….

Isn’t that rather near 77th St? You know…the one with the volcano? Of course, we could be talking West Side (for the molestation) rather the East Side (where the volcano is), but by now the eruption seems to be taking place all around the town….

Has a statement of some significance just been made, in a crossover way, about the ‘reality’ of what’s going on?

Not a real saurprise. I remember arguing with John Guidry at someone’s party, trying to convince him that the upcoming 1988 WorldCon (which he and mutual friend Justin Winston were {badly} running) ought allow Watchmen on the “Best Novel” Hugo ballot (the Hugo Rules - at least at the time - define a novel as “a work of fiction of 50,000 words or more”). His reason for not allowing it? “It’s not a novel, it’s a comic book.”

The latest trade paperback edition has a cover blurb, listing it as one of TIME magazine’s “100 Best English Novels”.

About Satori’s heels: MaryJanice Davidson’s “Betsy, Queen of the Vampires” novels ahve always bugged me in a similar manner - Betsy is a six-foot former model-turned-vampire (in a decidedly unorthodox version; resulting in her being, while definitely an undead bloodsucker, and to handle crucifixes, say “God” and “Jesus” and merely break out sneezing when doused with holy water).

Due to various weirdness, she found herself Queen of the Vampires, married (by vampire custom) to a sexy hunk who annoys the heck out of her. She loves shoes.

In several of the stories, she does vampire-super-strength stuff (like righting an overturned car with one hand) while wearing various kinds of expensive shoes, usually with stletto heels…

(BTW - Betsy is also the half-sister of the Devil’s daughter… The books are hilarious; the first is Undead and Unwed. Other worthwhile MJD books are her alternate-universe series involving the King of Alaska and his various offspring.)

Not trying to criticize Brooke’s artwork, as it truly is masterful, but did anyone else notice that half of the ruffles on Satori’s sleeve are flesh colored instead of white?

I love how the bottom of Dru’s dress defies gravity in order to maintain her dignity. Although I suppose that succubi don’t really worry much about that.

Ouch! That spike through her neck has just got to hurt. I hope there isn’t too much significance to the fact that her eyes are shut.

Re: Lena’s Charlies: Brooke has said in the past that he doesn’t have time to go back and check things for continuity, depending rather on his memory and imagination. Suffice it to say she’s a big girl, and leave it at that. But there’s somewhat of a psychological barrier between Lena and the viewer - despite her appearance in Suzerain, and her relative precocity, she’s still only 8. Ew…

Didn’t notice that until you pointed it out, BikeNBoatN. I suppose one could cook up an excuse like “that’s just her pink hair showing through the flimsy fabric,” but that wouldn’t explain the part that is in front of her hair but nonetheless is white. Simple fact is, it’s a coloring error. And I bet it will be corrected before tomorrow’s page, if Honorable Master or his wifely Screener read these comments!

Part Eight
Desperation

I was really in bad shape. My body suffered from both hot and cold flashes. I no longer had the strength to walk on my own. The demon became my crutch.

” Your friend is in bad shape brother, and may not make it to the volcano “. Kiri said to her brother. ” We need to get to the volcano and fast, before the chosen one dies, or becomes a demon wolf “. The demon said with a sense of urgency in his voice

” Let me take your friend by air, it will save us some time, my brother “. Kiri offered, and her brother seeing no other alternative agreed.

Kiri cradled my half unconscious body in her hands and took to the air with the demon looking on waving to her.

The succubus reached full flight speed, and soon saw the volcano coming into view. ” We’re almost there, please hang on a little while longer “. She pleaded to me in a soft soothing voice.

At last We reached the volcano, but as she put me down, a blast of hot air rose from the volcano and a giant form appeared. It was the dark lord.

Kiri wasted no time in attacking the dark lord. She shot massive amounts of lightning bolts at him. The dark lord easily swatted the attacks away. Kiri then tried to do a flying attack, but was caught in mid air.

Meanwhile I was struggling with a change that was trying to overcome me. My eyes began to glow red and my teeth began to change into fangs.

The dark lord began to squeeze Kiri hard in his hand.
” Such a beautiful creature you are Kiri, it’s a shame that you became a traitor “. Said the dark lord as he continued to try to squeeze the life out of her.

” Chosen one, please you must complete the mission for all of mankind “. Kiri said as she used her cross necklace to remind me of my duty. My head was hot with fever but I had returned to normal.

” Believe in faith and it will protect and guide you “. A familiar voice in my head said to me. I knew then what I had to do. I took out the bottle of holy water.

” Dark lord, I’m the one you want not her “. I yelled getting his attention waving the bottle of holy water in my hand. As he let the succubus go I leaped into the volcano still holding the bottle, I knew that I was going to die, but through my death mankind would be saved and the world would be restored.

The dark lord raced after me on my free fall. I quickly opened up the bottle and poured out the holy water I watched as the holy water hit the poison. The last thing I saw in my life was a bright flash of light from an explosion.

It was over at last. Kiri watched as the exploding light hit the sky. The world began to change showing signs of life Trees and plant life began to bloom. Rivers, lakes, oceans, and other bodies of water cleared up as well. The world had become a paradise.

Kiri began to change as well, her bat like wings became angelic wings . She had become an angelic succumbus now.

The demon watch as the world changed around him, but he was not alone. As he turned around to leave, he saw her. His angel love had returned to him. Then a voice from the heavens spoke to him. ” From this day on, you will no longer be a demon, you shall instead be the guardian of this paradise “. With that said , the new guardian and his angel love went into paradise and lived there in happiness for all eternity. THE END

I did it I finished the story, I’m happy again. As I began to finish this last part I had tears of joy.

Whenever I’ve seen anyone with pink hair in RL, it looks totally absurd. Yet, here, Satori (ie. Brooke) pulls it off and it looks quite normal. Amazing what our sense of “normalcy” is here in Pib-verse.

emjrn you want to know if me and kozykitn are one and the same because of similarities in our comments. ( I sure as hell hope not ). I no longer care what she says, I have decided on my own to stay away from her and hang out with my own friends here who actually care about me. That is my decision and I want everyone here to respect that. I know who I am now, I’m A seventeen year old girl Who wants nothing more now, than to make people happy. I am a short story writer and I belong to Pibgorn and the Order of The Couch, The couch of confusion. That is who I am, and that is all I need to be. I hope that I answered your question.

As I began to meditate for the first time under my dad’s instructions I had an epiphany. My mind is now at peace and I can smile again.

Lena’s mentioning of time dilation is a clue to the story, but I’m clue-less as to what it means. Even though she’s only eight, she’s still pretty savvy. On 11/5/08 she provided a crucial clue to Roger.
