Dru is at it again, working without a net.
Almost turned into a Wile E. Coyote moment there.
Thankfully (to Dru) Nat is soooo responsive!

Do I correctly foresee what might be called carnal impalement here? Kinda reminds me of a scene from a ribald novel I read long ago, Candy by Terry Southern….

Huh? I totally do not understand what you’re talking about. I must be slower than normal - could you elaborate?

That must have been some cliff they fell off of, cause they did a lot of talking while falling at approximately 32 feet per second.

Wandering through yesterday’s postings one last time and picked up on something you said earlier…
The old name of LA is actually El Pueblo de Nuestra Senora La Reina de Los Angeles del Rio de La Porciuncula
(The Town of Our Lady the Queen of the Angels of the River of Porciuncula)
There is some dispute about the actual wording, because - in early letters and diaries - there were partial excisions from the name, dysphemisms deleted depending on who dictated the document. (Isn’t ‘dysphemism’ a lovely word? It means ‘word’).
The ‘Porciuncula’ comes from the earliest name of the (now mostly invisible) Los Angeles River, the ‘Rio de La Porciuncula’, called so for the feast day of Porciuncula (celebrated by the explorers who ‘discovered’ the river). Porciuncula was a plot of ground (it literally means “the little portion”) in Asissi, Italy, where the St. Francis of that locale dwelt and preached. Much of the early ‘naming’ of Southern California was done by Fr. Junipero Serra and his merry band of Franciscan monks, including, in the case of Los Angeles, one Fr. Juan Crespi, who described a “very spacious valley, well-grown with cottonwood and alders, among which ran a beautiful river”. Understandably, the Franciscans tended to favor their founder (which is how ‘San Francisco’ came about).
The ‘real’ name of LA (which it held for over a thousand years before Fr. Crespi ever saw it) was Ya-ngna (usually mispronounced as Yang-na) where the original locals lived (the site is currently buried under City Hall or Elysian Park - another thing local historians argue hotly about).
Ya-ngna, BTW, actually means “the place of the salt”. In the Uto-Shoshonean-Aztecan (yeah…those Aztecs) dialect they spoke, ‘Ya’ meant ‘salt’ and ‘ngna’ meant ‘place of” (there was either a ‘salt lick’ nearby or the soil was alkaline)’.
I had to research all this for a video once….the ‘Ya-ngna’ section ended on the cutting room floor, but the knowledge still comes in handy for getting people seriously exercised at LA parties. True Angelenos tend to take their historical ethnicity very seriously….
Oh! Goodness! New episode….and Dru is…and Nat is…and they’re about to…
I’ll get back to you sometime on all that LA historical stuff…

I wonder if the last panel shows them just about to go “WHOMP” or if it shows Dru stopping them just before they would have gone “WHOMP”.
Does anyone else have an opinion on this?
Sisyphos said, 4 months ago
I don’t know why Nat is so surprised at Dru’s tactics. Is his memory so short (if so, she’s going to be disappointed in her mind fusion; of course, even so, there’s still the bodily)?
fear-ciuil said, 4 months ago
@CoBass, look at the white lines that divide the panels.

You know when you’re falling in a dream…only you never hit? Either the dream shifts (Dru may be headed back to the game show) or you wake up (in which case, things could get very interesting). I don’t think Dru is stopping them…but I don’t think they’re going to WHOMP, either.

I am so glad that this story finally seems to be coming together. It can be rather frustrating to wonder when we’re going to get back to some far-flung happening (like Geof and Pib) and how all the pieces fit together. I guess that’s how we came to have our lovely couch to sulk on. By the way, isn’t it about time to get this thing cleaned again?
I am also loving the story at 9 Chickweed Lane.
Sisyphos said, 4 months ago
CoBass, it just dawned on me that fear-ciuil is referring to the “figure” formed by the intersections of the panels….
EDIT: Ah! In the interval, she herself has explained it! Sorry, fear-ciuil! (I need to remember to Refresh my page before posting; ‘course, if I do, I lose my post…!?)
Honorable Master is among the most creative of comic-artists in forming his panels in innovative ways!

I, too, was bemused by the ‘carnal impalement’ theme, but instead of Candy what came to mind was the limerickal
“Young Man of Eau Claire”. I believe his…er…situation… was more closely akin to what is depicted here.

Moonsinger: I can’t see the 27 (so far) comments from today (yet), but you might be trying to upload an avatar image that is too large for the site to digest. Just a thought; I had no trouble using Camino to get the avatar up there.
And if you’re using a Mac at home, DEFINITELY download the trial of Bento from FileMaker. I haven’t used it, or tried it, but as I said “yesterday” FileMaker is wonderful, so I assume Bento is all the go, too.
dpetril: could the toothed bills be attached to Playtypuseses perhaps? Kowing this erudite, if somewhat motley, crew, I wouldn’t be surprised!

Actually, since Dru can fly, does she really care if Nat lets go of the cliff? They’ll only fall as far as she wants to. That’s assuming, of course, that the original malady she had (falling off the top of the building the very first week) is no longer affecting her.
Sisyphos said, 4 months ago
9CWL: Well, UncaAlby, at least a “soggy psychotic”! …I’m guessing that Amos’s slouch signals that he is (still) intimidated by S. Caligula, and is hoping to curry favor with his inane little remark about how cute Edda is, which provokes S. Steven’s little “insane” remark to Edda!

Ok I’m better now. (snicker) As I promised you all it’s time once again for me to finish up my story.
DRAGON KNIGHT
Part Three
The night was indeed long for Eziah, but he didn’t have long to wait. Lady Keona, transformed into an eagle, came flying in, and attacked the dark creature’s eyes blinding him so that Eziah could put him out of his misery for good.
“What are these creatures”? Asked Eziah. “Dark elves, long ago who’s minds were twisted to insanity by the practice of dark magic”. Sarrin said as she continued to repair the broken seal.
Early morning sunrise came, but King Gabriel and his soldiers could not enjoy it’s beauty. They were fighting for their lives and for their kingdom. Good news however, came in the form of a loud bugle sound. Reinforcements have arrived.
The work on the seal was finished as the sun rose into the sky. Sarrin collapsed from exhaustion. Eziah nelt down and held Sarrin in his arms. “Rest now Sarrin, you’ve earned it”. he said softly to her, then looked up at Lady Keona. “stay with her and wait for Taunimus to show up, or for me to return”. Eziah said to her. “As you wish”. Lady Keona said and bowed to him. Eziah wasted no more time as he mounted on the dragon and was off.
The battle was more fierce than ever. canons blazed, catapults, heaving large boulders, and archers with renewed spirit shot forth flaming arrows into the air killing demons, trolls and ogres.
There were a heavy amount of losses on all sides. Blood had literally stained the battlefield.Still all seemed lost for the humans and their allies. The demon hoard still outnumbered them . All King Gabriel could do was pray for a miracle.
God must have been listening, for out of the sky a dragon knight on his dragon appeared. The dragon swooped down and spewed forth fire on the demon hoard. drastically thinning their numbers.
The dragon knight leaped off his dragon and started slicing his way through the demon hoard. He was untouchable, no demon, troll, or ogre could touch him. The humans, elves, and dwarves joined the dragon knight and by late afternoon the battle was over.
All that was left to do was burn the bodies of the demon hoard and give those who had died in battle a proper burial. King Gabriel made his way to the dragon knight to shake his hand. He was surprised with joy as the dragon knight took off his helmet to reveal that it was his brother Eziah. The king overjoyed hugged his brother and patted him on the back. then he shouted out for all to hear, “Tonight we shall celebrate! A new era of peace has began for all of us”. King Gabriel cleared his throat, then said, “God bless you all, my friends”.
Eziah told his brother that he would see him tonight, but first had to go back for Sarrin, Lady Keona, and Taunimus.
They deserved to be there to celebrate with him THE END
……………………………………………………………………………………………..
So marks the end of my story. I hoped you all enjoyed reading it, as I enjoyed typing it.

I think JoeM has it right - Dru & Nat are re-creating their … “position” in what may or may not approximate their personal possibly waking (?) reality … I would surmise that when they … come to the ground (as in any other dream) they (or at least Nat) should …jerk … awake ^_~
Or given they mind mixing, Nat could end up in a dress in the game show … O_O

Sisyphos - the thought of Dru ad Sister S, SWITCHING places … for SOME reason, I can’t “see” the good sister enjoying a “fusion” like Dru would!
(And, thinking back, “Candy” didn’t get inpailed _BY_ a rock, she was impailed ON one! - I spent 2 weeks in detention because of that book, and I’d do it again in a heart-beat!)
