Isn’t that the way of the world? All of us could be great, if it weren’t for the competing commitments… i.e., distractions. The things that keep us from getting what we say we really want.
Go, Nat. Accept your greatness!

This is so like a dream. Like running in mud, uphill. No matter what you do, another obstacle presents itself. Hip deep in alligators when all you want to do is drain the swamp.
This is very good Brooke.
Now that Nat has been distracted and forgotten about Dinah, Nonny and Teau-Teau, I think the show is about to begin.

AmriloJim, I spent just about all night reading the entire Pibgorn archive on your site. I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again; graphic novels should be critiqued and viewed as literature! Okay, back to what I was going to say: I love the “next” link, how about a “back” link and a link that takes the reader to the Pibgorn home page?

DonTomasoAquino said: “Hey, I’ve noticed a poster consistently referring to the author of the strip, Mr McE as “having hissy fits,” or “taking his ball and going snuffling home,” and I believe there have been other such comments. Now don’t get me wrong here. I for one won’t refer to Brooke McEldowney as Honorable Master or any such thing. I like his work a lot, but I’m just not comfortable with that. But those who refer to him as HM or in other deferrential terms are not wrong either. It’s all about respect for Mr. McE, his work, and for each other.”
True enough, as far as it goes. I began to refer to him as The Professor or The Honorable Master because I am a story teller and in his last story arc I was awed at the way he used his narrative and art to draw the reader along with the long, drawn-out story. (Puns intended!) I read these strips now not only because I love them, but because I feel I am studying at the feet of a master of my craft. My grandpa was one such and he left me much too soon. I wish I had known then what I do today I would have spent more time with him to learn his wisdoms, but now I have to seek out people like Brooke McEldowney who are very good at what they do. To me, he will always be The Honorable Master.
(The fact that he can make adult men drool all over themselves for cartoon females should make the title fitting all by itself! He is just plain good at what he does!)

atajayhawk said: “Due to electronics, among other things, copyright pretty much doesn’t expire anymore. Parody may be amusing (to you, at least); and satire may be satisfying (again, to you); but you’d better be careful of using exact text, art, etc. or you could be getting a letter from a lawyer.”
The sad part is, the lawyers are more sue happy than ever because the record labels and publishers and such…the people who don’t actually do anything creative, they just glom money off the sales of other people’s creativity…are more than happy to spend scads of money in pursuit of more money. Fair and right does not even enter into the equation.
Over at the Mad Music Archive, the home of comedy, novelty and parody music, there has been a lot of wailing and moaning about this very topic, how anyone who tries to parody something is smacked down by overzealous legal beagles working for overzealous corporate fatcats. Ever since the Family Guy producer and his network won against Disney for a parody of a Disney song, I have dreamed of the day when I can go around honking off these clowns just so I can destroy them in court. Can you say “Cinderella 90210”…? Hey, let’s get the Spelling estate tied up in it too, shall we…? I am writing a song that will say something to the effect of “Please, Disney, Sue me! I Need the Publicity!”

I wonder if Nat feels like he’s in slow motion. With that said I want to thank all of you for supporting my dad as he fights his addiction to alcohol. seven days now. I send to you all my hugs and blow a kiss to each one of you who are kind and supported. My dad right now is sleeping, He worked hard at a horse ranch today repairing a barbed-wire fence while I tended to the horses feeding watering and grooming them. So my dad won’t be on tonight.

If we presume, as someone did yesterday, that Monty is Loki, does that make Thorax Balder, the god of light and beauty? Or since he is deferential to Monty, perhaps Balder’s son Forseti, the god of peace, justice and truth? Loki would be his foster uncle, I think. On the other hand, Monty just doesn’t have the nastiness Loki would have. Still…

Well, you need a space backdrop to film spaceship models in front of, right?

If we talk about Greek equivalents: Monty is Hybris, Thorax is Mania, Edda is Peitho, Amos is Caerus, Juliet is Ate, Mary Rosenzweig is Eris.

ladywolf17, Fencing? I never appreciated how much of an art that was, as taught and practiced by me Mum, until the State Road Dept. moved and rebuilt a fence of ours so they could “daylight” a curve on the road. There are far more arts than are recognized by the acadamies. The fence started falling over within 3 years.
Glad your father is hanging in there. My father-in-law was so talented and resourceful but so thwarted by his addiction.

A Certain Poet Who shall Not be Named said to me months & months ago, ” Gee this Brooke feller is soooo talented–why doesn’t he do Real Art?” She does not particularly like Krazy Kat either.
I, for one am gobsmacked by Nat, Walkin’ in the Rain. But that’s one obscene volcano tip IMHO.
Chickweed, Nooooo! Monty invoked the Name. The Evil Clown Patsies have trademarked EVERYTHING
Monty’s truth: Over 20 years ago at a wholesale market I met a lady of Scots descent who made a wee kilted teddy she called “McBear”. McDee’s sued her over the name because they had filed trademarks over every possible permutation of “Mc[noun]” I have never eaten at any of their little burger stands since.
