    The Car Trip

‘I’m telling you Jack, if you don’t turn off that Sat Nav, I’m going to throw it out the window.’
‘No, Jenny. I need it. It’s vital for work.’
‘But why does it have that voice?’
    ‘What voice?’
    ‘That..that. Oooh! You know.’
‘What’s wrong with it? It’s clear, and tells me exactly where I need to go.’
‘After one hundred yards, turn right, gorgeous.’
‘I’m telling you, Jack, I’ve just about had it with the voice of that – that - HUSSY!’
    ‘Do people still say that?’
    ‘Don’t change the subject.’
‘Look. How will we know where to go without Sat Nav?’
    ‘I can read a map.’
‘OK, I’ll turn the Sat Nav off, you direct us to Lemster, and we’ll stop for lunch.’
Jenny reached round, and grabbed the map book, riffling the pages to Worcester where they had begun their journey. She followed the roads with her finger, then stopped and stared at the book. Then she turned to the index, turning a few pages, then traced down with her finger, then went back to the map page.
    ‘Lemster?’
    ‘Yes, Lemster.’
‘A little village north of Ludlow?’
‘What are you talking about? Lemster’s a big place. Famous.’
    ‘Well, I can’t find it.’
Jack braked sharply and grabbed the map book.
    ‘Look. Here! HERE! LEMSTER!’
    ‘That says Leominster.’
    ‘It’s pronounced “Lemster.”’
‘Well, why didn’t you say you wanted to go to Leominster?’
    ‘It’s pronounced “LEMSTER!”’
The two quietly fumed during the rest of the journey. Jack changed gears sharply and Jenny shot him angry looks that contained more acid than words ever could. They pulled into the restaurant car park, went in and sat down. Eventually a waitress came over to them to take the order.
‘Before we do that, could you answer a question?’
    ‘JACK!’
‘Look, Jenny, I just want to settle this once and for all.’
‘It doesn’t matter. Let’s just eat our meal in peace.’
‘Miss. My wife and I had a disagreement on the way here. Please could you tell me. What is the correct way to pronounce the name of this place?’
    ‘Har-vest-er.’

Much thanks for your webpage links to past Pib arcs. It’s a great help in wading through/catching up for us late joiners. I don’t know if GoComics will like it but I’m very pleased …. and thankful.

Now if I only knew where to buy a ticket to the Pibverse

This is indeed a great day Margueritem wins an award (congratulations) and my dad (wolfbyte36) has finally achieved his life long goal and is no longer an outcast in our family. He finally got his mother to say the three biggest words that he’s been denied for so long (I LOVE YOU). It’s nice to know that my dad doesn’t have to be the bad guy anymore. He shall be returning to the couch here within the next few days.

    —————

I think that she is frozen like snow rather than a solid block of ice. Which would make her flexible but prone to melting if she was warmed up too much.

The pattern on her skin looks like lots of small ice crystals rather than one large one.

Which would make her a snowpib rather than a pibsickle.

    Or maybe a pibsorbet?

    (Mmmm… pibsorbet…)

waycyber - how odd - I live in Worcester, and travel to Leominster quite a lot! However, the wife and I got the Sat Nav argument out of the way some time ago :-)

The sexy female voice is best, I don’t trust the Irish girl - let alone understand her, I won’t go for the male voice because I don’t want to appear gay to my friends, and Mr.T is just obnoxious!!

Whoa, waycyber, not getting jealous is a lot of work for a writer! You’re too secure. The women in my family are all writers (Mom’s the non-fiction novelist, Grandma’s the short-story writer, and I do articles - we’re all published) so I know that not getting mean is a pretty tall order!

How to Pronounce Massachusetts Town Names:
    http://www.worcestermass.com/pronounce/index.shtml

Your joke reminded me of a local one, popular especially with the college crowd at UMass and the denizens of Amherst (silent “h”):

US 202 runs north-south west of the Quabbin Reservoir, which forms much of the boundary of Hampshire County with Worcester County. An alternate name is the Daniel Shays Highway (named after the rebellious farmer of old). it also has another nickname:

    The Alimentary Canal

After all, it does connect Belchertown with Athol
