Kalahari: thank you for the food compliment! That’s exactly what my avatar is; I took the photo last weekend at a medieval feast. Thank you also for the wine. I cannot drink in the real world (medication interactions suck bilge water), but I assume that in our Escherian universe of the Couch, I am free to enjoy your bramble wine - in moderation of course, to be a good example for the children… Yeah, right.
[Sip] Oh, it’s excellent. You brewed it yourself? Well done!
Saskfan said, 5 months ago
@Kalahari again: The parson stood in the dairy aisle of a grocery store, surveyed the items offered, and intoned, “What a friend we have in cheeses!”
Or was that Bmonk I herd say that?
Sisyphos said, 5 months ago
@Saskfan: groan!
The Sexy One, the Cute One, the Bouncy One, and Nat.
–Setting up an action sequence from The Three Musketeers against whatever Old Smokey represents? (Pib does seem to be French-themed of late….)

In the Couch Lounge all foods and drinks are fat free, dairy free, sugar free, alcohol free and taste just as good as you remember them…or somebody remembers them. How else could a diabetic like me offer up a plate of his all-time favorite pastries? Our errant time-lord did make one pilgrimage to the past for me. The little grocery store in my home town used to make these wonderful maple bars with real, honest-to-Custer custard in them, not the sugar cream stuff! Have never had their like since.
MMMMMM! Just as good as I remember.
(And no trip to the emergency room.)

You know if this is the Wizard of Oz, maybe Nat is our lion. The Cowardly Lion was always just a tad too aggressive but never managed to hurt anyone.

Captain Smokeblower said: “It’s been noted that since the drinks are both in and out of the Klein bottle they’re also both in and out of the refrigerated dimension of the bottle and I assume they’re both mixed and unmixed simultaneously. (I’d love to sample the frozen Margaritas from the Klein bottle even though it’s early Sunday morning. As an aside, happy Father’s Day one and all, especially you mom’s who made us fathers.)
Indeed, I had not considered that possibility. My Four-dimensional physics are a bit rusty…
BTW, is that Anejo rum or Anejo tequila…? Either one sounds tasty.
“I wasn’t aware of the rum variant. Is it a sipping rum like the Anejo tequila is?”
I have not yet had the pleasure, but it sounds like a marvelous spirit. I defer to The Webtender website…
“Añejo, the ancient Spanish word for “aged”, describe this rum well. This golden rum is made from a blend of rich, aged rums. The blend is filtered and then stored on charred oak barrels giving the añejo rum a mellow taste and rich aroma. One of the best known brands is the Bacardi Añejo rum.”
I a not not supposed to imbibe in spirits in RL anymore, but a small nip now and then or the occasional glass of wine or bottle of beer doesn’t seem to hurt much, so this one is definitely on my shopping list. My usual hard spirit of choice is Rich & Rare blended Canadian Whiskey. Very smooth and mellow. Most whiskeys and bourbons are okay, but I really like the R&R. Never did develop a taste for scotch, and I’ve tried the best…fortunately, the squirrels like a really cheap brand of scotch…Glen Blarney..eight bucks a 750. The label shows a golfing Scotsman puking in his shoe…

If that time-lord’s still about, ask him to go to Ma Penn’s & pick me up a River Rat. Taco meat, Ortega peppers & Jack cheese, grilled on Rye bread. I don’t remember how long the place has been gone, shoot for the mid’70s. It’s worth the trip.

I would say that the ladies have turned their backs on Nat…. BTW, is that the correct way to “wear” a Teau-Teau?
Elizabeth said, 5 months ago
Though Nat is flat on his back his detective hunch/instinct/gut/Jennifer was on the mark, as there is another dame. Lets see if sticking with this female trio will lead him to the answers or as our private dick also surmised, Grinder Cohan .

I think there’s a Ozzian feel to this adventure, with a Yellow Brick Road about to be revealed. So I’m bringing some Oz tasties to the Couch (That’s “Oz” as in Australia, an understandable nickname if you’ve ever heard an Australian say the name of their country – the accent makes the third letter sound like a Z not an S). I’ve brought an assortment of meat pies and salad rolls from Harry’s Cafe de Wheels in Woolloomooloo and, to share with Story Teller and others interested, a litre of Bundaberg OP Rum to enjoy them with. This is an anejo-style golden rum from Queensland, superb sipping that I personally take lightly rocked with just one or two cubes of ice.

I’m continuing to love the interplay/expressions between Pib and Dru. Perfect.
Meanwhile…. is Geoff making decisions about using the microwave on parallel-Pib? Film at eleven.
I’m curious to see if/when he factors into the film-noir-du-jour.

@Story Teller, Thank you, thank you, a hundred thank you’s Story Teller. Thanks to you I can correct people. I’m not old, I’m Añejo! Oak barrels are just smaller, unpadded, rooms correct?

Is it my over-active imagination, or is there something ominous forming in the sky behind Pibby and Dru’s heads in the last panel? (also note the Sketches..)
Captain Smokeblower said, 5 months ago
Back in the 60’s action heros would go through fights, chases and such without mussing a single strand of hair. “Bouncy” manages to throw Nat, jump and land astraddle him and then has to throw off her hat. That’s a hat made for tornado weather.
Oh, was no one paying attention to her hat?

I think you have a good eye. I wasn’t paying attention to the sky (cough cough) and didn’t see it.
Nuts. I forgot that you can’t indent for paragraphs - it changes the text font, and generally messes up the post.

Something hot is getting ready to happen.
Captain Smokeblower said, 5 months ago
@jackmatt,
Could be your imagination, because at higher elevations the blue approaches black as you look up from the horizon (less air above, really noticeable in a big jet at 40k feet), but you could be correctly anticipating events.
The thought just struck me that the Confusion Couch is much like a Klein bottle in that what we know and don’t know are both correct and wrong simultaneously. Our ideas are both in the bottle and outside at the same time.
Reality: Not for the faint of heart.
Captain Smokeblower said, 5 months ago
Teau-Teau’s throw move in the middle panel appears to me to be powered by her abdominal muscles. (Any experts on martial arts or hair fairy anatomy on the Couch to confirm or confound that?) If the observation is correct that girl has some kind of six-pack. Probably able to open beer bottles, both twist off and pop-off, with her navel, assuming hair fairies have navels. (Where is that hair fairy anatomist?) Might even be able to crack walnuts while doing tummy crunches.
Teau-Teau: “Feel my abs.”
Nat: “No, my knuckles haven’t healed from last time.”
Teau-Teau: “Ah, poor boy.”
OldMan Montgomery said, 5 months ago
Couple things strike me.
Nat should stick to figuring; he does that better than wrestling women.
The three dames are closer to “Nat’s Demons” than “Charly’s Angels”. Perhaps akin to Sergio Leone’s “The Sexy, the Cute and the Bouncy”?
TiggerLeBounce said, 5 months ago
“What a friend we have in cheeses!” I love it!
And methinks Nat is just a bit outclassed with Teau-Teau/Oognat. And the other two ladies are doing some serious thinking here…
atajayhawk said, 5 months ago
Interesting point, jackmatt, especially about the sketch. It does look as if something could be starting to form up. Hmmm. (I’m really glad I don’t expect to understand what’s going on. Saves lots of energy; and the couch is very comfy.)

Teau-Teau’s hair is a little reminiscent of Juliette’s, isn’t it?
She got the drop on Nat (and how interesting is it that they share part of a name!? at least with her normal name). The by-play between Dru and Pib is indeed entertaining.

9cl–Diane, deliver it with all due gusto–perhaps the level of conviction will make Monty alter his plans.

Why do all the women in this strip have the SAME body type? It’s like they are all Barbie dolls. Check out Stangers in Paradise for some realistic women.

@Harvey_Bug – Hell, that’s nothing - check out Requiem - it’s hard to tell the people apart - it’s all CGI and every woman has the same body, with interchangeable heads. And the heads aren’t that different either. You have to keep hitting the character roster just to make sense of what’s going on.
http://requiem.spiderforest.com/
Or the Challenges Of Zona - I think those two artists use the same CGI program, though the guy doing Zona is much better at character differation … differenteration … differentiating – oh, the hell with it. You can tell them apart, OK? Zona is the blonde that can bench press elephants. Hard to miss in the crowd.

@Saskfan, I’da said it if I’da thought of it! Cheeses is Gouda! Edam when you can!
Speaking of all the couch members who can’t drink due to doctors orders reminds me of the fellow who used to come into a bar every day and order three beers, one for himself and one for each of his brothers, still in the fatherland.
One day, when he comes in, he orders only two beers. The barkeeper offers sympathy, and carefully inquires which of his brothers has died.
“Neither one. My doctor just told me I have to give up drinking!”
@Old Man Montgomery, Nat may do better at figuring than wrestling women, but I suspect he finds the side benefits of the wrestling so much more interesting…
