If you would like to ‘favorite’ the strip, (and maybe the sketch, too), simply log in and click on the ‘Favorite’ star at the lower right corner of the strip. Mr. McEldowney very kindly asked for us what purpose is served by favoriting, and this was the answer:
I asked my editor at Gocomics about the purpose of “favoriting” a strip. Her answer was this: “‘Favoriting’ allows people following you to see what comics you like. ‘Favorited’ comics also show up under your profile, and allow us to see what comics people are enjoying.”
Basically, I think it provides a method for spreading the word.

“Elisions”? I’ll have to look that one up.
Nat certainly likes his “Unbridled Gongbong Humma Humma.”
Joe Minotaur said, 5 months ago
Elision is the omission of one or more sounds (such as a vowel, a consonant, or a whole syllable) in a word or phrase, producing a result that is easier for the speaker to pronounce. Sometimes, sounds may be elided for euphonic effect.
Sisyphos said, 5 months ago
Well, I still am itching to see who’s manipulating the characters in this Borgia Cantus reprise!
As for Nat, he seems rather single-minded (or -mindless) when it comes to his elevensies!
Saskfan said, 5 months ago
Hey Joe, surely you know that’s Latin. You know: Kyrie Elisions.

Well, it looks official now. Now that Grinder’s name has been brought up, we definitely have almost all the characters from Borgia Cantas in this arc.

Oh, by all means, let us not keep Nat from his elevenses.

Why don’t I ever get a Special Delivery like that?☹
Why does panel 4 remind me of Cliff’s Notes? [Actually, I know the answer to that one!]

So now Dru/Dinah sounds like some common tramp from what….the Bronx? Sure, she was loose, easy, perhaps, but I never thought of her as common. I always imagined she was a little more high class than that. I guess that’s what happens when you let your imagination get away from you….
9CWL: So what exactly does Thorax mean by “cushion it”?

BikeNBoatN is right about Grinder; but with all of his prior activity, might Nat need a stunt-double for his elevensies, charlie37133?

Why isn’t Oognat in this story arc? I’m glad that Maurice is back, but we’ve never seen the horse nor swine since early in this strip.
fear-ciuil said, 5 months ago
A bit more from Borgia Cantus, including Geoff taking on the “Grinder” persona:

In the original Borgia Cantus arc, Pib and Geoff played out the roles of Nonny and Grinder, but never lost their actual identities. This time it seems Pib is just as brainwashed as Dru. I hope if Geoff shows up, he holds onto his sanity!
fear-ciuil said, 5 months ago
A couple of changes from the sketch:
Panel 1: Dialog change
Panel 2: Dru’s hat disappeared
@gimmickgenius, good point. And Pib’s been taken over since she entered the dream (or whatever the heck this is!); when she first sought out Nat, she was looking for “Drusilla … Drusilla and Geoff.”
Joe Minotaur said, 5 months ago
SASKAFAN!! WHERE IS HE HIDING?!
You are going to need “Mercy” after that one.
Not really, I had to look that one up too.
Latin is all Greek to me.

Saskafan, uh, “kyrie eleison” is Greek, not Latin, so Joe_Minotaur is quite right.
And I can clearly see you behind the barbecue and the fork I have is long enough to poke you in your heinie-bumper for that outrageous pun. Mercy, indeed.

Sisyphos said, 5 months ago
Fly Guy, though indeed in the Latin Mass, the phrase Kyrie, eleison is in fact Greek, for “Lord, have mercy.”
4deerinmyyard

@ whosoever: “Kyrie eleison” is indeed Greek for “Lord have mercy”, was/is a frequent component of the Eastern Orthodox service, and was borrowed into the Latin liturgy in the Middle Ages.
@ Joe: “sleepnir”. Hawr. Let’s leave Odin and his steed out of this. And mind your spelling.

@ Phoenix: If you’ll go back a week, then click forward from day to day very quickly, you’ll see that, just as Dru and Pib were about to compare notes, they first went all sparkly, not of their own volition (judging by their expressions), and then got drawn up into the air in slow motion. Swirling gently and slowly in midair, they were transformed into their Dinah and Nonny personae and garb. Nonny landed first, again slowly and gracefully; then had a quick interaction with Nat and his gat. Dinah, apparently having spiraled up higher, is only now landing, gracefully, in Nat’s arms. The fact that Dru seems to be subsumed in the Dinah persona is just rubbing in the fact that she is still unwittingly experiencing a comeuppance for having bragged earlier to Nat, “I’ll show you how to control a dream,” or words to that effect. (Can’t give the direct quote because I can no longer go back that far.) Physically, she and Nat are in the heart of a volcano in New York City, and Pib and Geoff (and Maus) are stranded on or near a glacier somewhere with mountains in the background. At the end of The Borgia Cantus, our heroes thwarted a major demonic invasion of the Human world, and I think Somebody is P.O.’d about that.

Pfft. I forgot for a moment about using the picayune option. The direct quote is, “I don’t have dreams, toots. I strictly invade them…. Allow me to show you how to shift a man from a dream…. Just let that be a reminder which one of us is in charge here.” Begins here: http://picayune.uclick.com/comics/pib/2009/pib090430.gif

fairportfan’s Kate is scheduled for surgery soon–sometime this week– and his silence since Fri. 22 May probably has had something to do with their trip to her mother’s to prepare for that.
Anyway, we are keeping them, and their Miss Kitty, in our thoughts.

4deerinmyyard, as a practicing Unitarian Universalist with strong pagan/heathen leanings, I am very aware that there is a great deal of slander against the lesser known native religions. I am glad the author of that site makes exposition–too bad there’s not a way to sue those who would blacken the traditions and practices of the true old ways practitioners.
~~~~~~~
Boy, Dru is really Dinah now–and it would seem Nonny had taken over Pib- The big question remains as to what Nat knew, and when did he know??
9CL–we must wait longer for how Thorax unwinds the knot.
Sorry for not knowing that Kyrie Eleison is Greek; should’ve checked with Google first, I admit. But then, neither Greek nor Latin is my first language, nor am I Catholic. Those are my only excuses.
I was slightly surprised that anyone in this erudite group would not know an elision when one is sighted.
Nat can’t be denied his dose of humma humma!!
Now I have to investigate who this Grinder guy is! Why can’t there be an arc with all NEW characters - for Dru and Pib to deal with?! (for people like me who haven’t read really early arcs) - not that I don’t enjoy this arc.
John Sanford said, 5 months ago
I’m sorry he’s going to miss his gongbong hummahumma. Unbridled no less. I guess he’ll just have to wait on these two dames to hash it out. But then he may be left out of their hashing if he becomes too aloof an’ all.
Dru is sounding a bit–irrational at the moment. do you think she has the high nasally voice too?
Sisyphos–that is good news! thanks for the link! maybe it can be added to the boilerplate?
i’m curious who the youngest of us is here? physically, i mean.
fairport, good to hear from you. Best wishes for the journey and Kate’s surgery.
The Pert acquired a very unpleasant trojan thru a Facebook Friend last Thurs. and she downloaded the free AVG which I just notice you mentioned on May 22nd or so. I told her about the ThreatFire just now and she’s consulting her computer guru. We had McAfee which did squat about the trojan.
I guess there’s a sort of Annunciation in the offing over at 9 Chickweed so Brooke is keeping his edginess. Folks were complaining that he’d gone all soft and treacly with the Brussels arc but now many are freaking.
I suspect if the wee one is born as a cockroach he or she will STILL be as cute as a button.
@Saskfan, excuse accepted. Not that you’re the only one to make that mistake. There is a story, likely true, that at the Second Vatican Council (1962-65, IIRC), back when the liturgy was still the Tridentine Latin and they should have known better, a bishop got up and proclaimed that “We’ve been saying the ‘Kyrie eleison’ in Latin (sic) for nineteen hundred years, and we aren’t going to change now!”
On quite another note, I was perusing the pages of a local paper (Bismarck Tribune) when I found on p. 3A (today, 6/1/09) not one but two squirrel stories: a blurb about a squirrel in Port Huron, Michigan who was seen stealing flags from a cemetery for her nest, and a large local picture of a squirrel in a church birdhouse. Reportedly the latter squirrel had earlier been in the saloon birdhouse, but converted and moved over to the church.
