Terry Pratchett is one of my favorite authors, too. Unfortunately, he has an unusual form of Alzheimer’s, and probably won’t be writing any more.
Edit - I concur on PDQ Bach (I mean Peter Schickele) as Couch Composer.
By the time I got this in (when there wasn’t a current link, but one BP) there have been three, and now back to two… we all do obsess on this don’t we!! …to the point of overhelpfulness!! Sigh!!
9CwL: Oh, bother… I was hoping for more Edda facial reactions to the dvd contents…
We were truly triple distiled?
Fearciuil you saw Peter Schick.? Wow, wow NEAT. (I’ve only heard of him, and seen a couple youtube snippets.)
TheSkulker I’ll quit trying to format that boiler plate now. I’m glad that you’ve taken care of it.
@fearciuil - How was P.D.Q.? When I heard he was coming to Greeley, I thought about going but finances are just too tight right now. Hope you enjoyed the show! Out of curiosity, what’s your favorite P.D.Q. Bach piece? Probably Oedipus Tex for me.
So, if they’re not already [in] Gotham, where are they???? And how did Pib get there so fast from the coffee cup on the piano?? And what about Dru?? (maybe for tomorrow’s cliffhanger another teaser of her condition…)
I recall that, some years back, Peter Schickele/P.D.Q. Bach was on FM radio Saturday afternoons, after PHC…. Does anyone else out there also recall this?
cobass says: @fearciuil - How was P.D.Q.? …Out of curiosity, what’s your favorite P.D.Q. Bach piece? Probably Oedipus Tex for me.
My favorite is Concerto for Horn and Hardart. Ever since playing pots in “Variations on a Kitchen Sink” in high school, I’ve been a sucker for “alternative” music…
Night all! Let’s see.. If I crash right now and can get to sleep with all these conundrums rumbling around between my ears, I’ll be able to squeeze in those 5 hours and not fall asleep at my keyboard tomorrow… I mean, later today!!
Sigh. I really do need to get to sleep. I was almost convinced that since this is Thursday Pibgorn, if I went to sleep then I’d wake up and it would be Friday already…
Dru’s asleep and she’s actually dreaming this whole… no, that’s not it.
When Dru and Spinking were (Ahem,) Active with each other, Pib was still merged with Dru, so the foetus within Dru has gotten Pib’s character, and is trying to tell Dru, through her dreaming, that… no, that’s not it.
Both Dru AND pib have been effected and are passed out. This is Pib’s dream in which she’s trying to find Dru; not her body, but her personality. It’s all symbolic and the question is “who is dru now, after the double mojo absorption?”
It’s time for me to lie back in the hot tub, and ponder away in silence.
Nachht, Morgen, und Schöne Verwirrung.
re: PDQ, not sure I have a favorite at the moment. Tonight’s performance was a concert performance of The Abduction of Figaro, and was supremely funny. When Prof. Schickele mentioned that the narration would leave the audience “less confused” than would the fully-staged version, I knew I had to nominate PDQ as Couch Composer. The comments about “no fury like an upstaged soprano” solidified my resolve.
Just think, Couchies: we are witnessing the definitive emergence of a new literary genre, contemporary fantasy cartoon noir, that will be studied, discussed, dissected, and theorized in Popular Culture classes in universities all across the land!
[EDIT: I modified the new genre name, out of respect for old-time manifestations such as The Spirit.]
Nat! You are so my hero! 6 times and you can get back up on your feet? We’re talking stud hall of fame.

Yeah, but will it ever become a Jeopardy question?
@fearciuil: Khool, you got to see Peter Schickele? I recall first encountering PDQ Bach in High School. And in college, as a member of a men’s choir, we performed “The Art of the Ground Round”, a 4-section piece of his (one for each section–there’s actually 5 in the song)…as I recall the lyric for my section was:
Nellie is a nice girl; But Hannah is a HOR-rible prude; Paul is a policeman; But Peter is a PIMP-ly and rude young man;
@Fearc: Awesome that you got to see Schickele - I’ve seen him once in concert (it was his “farewell” tour) and I’m glad he’s out and about again. Any pyrotechnics this time? XP
@JFrisch419: Schon recht, aber das habe ich für die ungewaschenen Ausländer, die in der deutschen Sprache nicht mächtig sind, übersetzt… ;^)
Well, considering that he’s really a demon, and, considering what was suggested about Pib and Dru’s “clothing” in a comment a day or so ago, “dressing” probably consists of deciding on what to “wear”…
I note that Pib is apparently a deciduous fairy, for all that she becomes an evergreen when she turns into a tree…
cobass says:
“…what’s your favorite P.D.Q. Bach piece? Probably Oedipus Tex for me.”
Probably either “The Stoned Guest” or “Fuga Vulgaris, for four hands calliope, from the Toot Suite”
Geoff’s house is in Connecticut. Probably not too far from the Egg house. Chances are that Nat’s office is near Port Chester or New Rochelle. Somewhere north of “Gotham City”.
Thanks Gweedo and Wildflowerose. I was writing that at work and had to pause a few time because of interruptions(RL).

Just a note for lincolnhyde, way up there: Terry Pratchett does, indeed, have a form of Alzheimers, which is tragic. However, he insists that he’s still writing, albeit more slowly, and we should see Unseen Academicals and I Shall Wear Midnight sooner or later.
“Dinah Cloverly”? “Brigid (Wonderly) O’Shaughnessy”? Hark! Do these aged yet finely tuned and suspicious shell-like ears detect the merest hint of a classic movie reference? OK … back now to the conclusion of today’s episode of “One Man’s Ogling!” Sponsored by Ugarte Motors (our motto: “You despise me now, don’t you?”).
A fantastic saga of adventure both high and low, of forbidden passion and iambic pentameter, of fays, fools, organists, demons, accordions, heaven, hell and Shakespeare, Pibgorn follows the whims and flights of its eponymous fairy heroine as she plies her conviction that there must be more to life than depositing dew drops on dandelions and sleeping under mushrooms.
