If you would like to ‘favorite’ the strip, (and maybe the sketch, too), simply log in and click on the ‘Favorite’ star directly above the strip. Mr. McEldowney very kindly asked for us what purpose is served by favoriting, and this was the answer:
I asked my editor at Gocomics about the purpose of “favoriting” a strip. Her answer was this: “‘Favoriting’ allows people following you to see what comics you like. ‘Favorited’ comics also show up under your profile, and allow us to see what comics people are enjoying.”
Basically, I think it provides a method for spreading the word.

Holy swashbuckler! But for what sport is luscious Lena costumed?
Major re-do in panel 3 from sketch to finished art….

@Sisyphos, I noticed that, too–personally, I prefer the sketch this time. ::shrug::

Where is Lena going?
I noticed that “Rog” had to check her “Improvements” as well.
It may take Roger a couple of days to convince Satori that the game is over and he needs to take her through the portal.
Where is Igor and Lena’s hoe?

Lena’s hoe, a.k.a. Avenging Blade of Righteousness, is probably propping the Portal open for the return-trip home after all buckles have been thoroughly swashed. I suspect Igor was left behind this time, as there seems no place for him in Lena’s skimpy new attire!

If Rog could ever make that work in RL, he’d make Bill Gate’s fortune look like chump change. Imagine type-type-type, jump through the screen and I’m 27 years old again with a full head of hair and running 6 minute miles without even breaking a sweat. In the mean time I made chocolate fudge with little pieces of candied orange rhine in them. Enjoy

Panel 4 has change(s) too.
This version of push-up … errr, i mean “grown up” … Lena looks more like Lena than the Queen did:

Pib: Absolutely split my sides laughing at today’s strip… My hat’s off to Roger - and whoever made a crack about “C++” yesterday, that was truly “spot on”! Satori looks smitten… it’s wonderful to see her again.
@All: Many thanks for the compliments on Fortunata’s artwork, I will be sure to pass them her way.
My former avatar is a study for another commission by Anthony (Patch) Sarkasuo who will, hopefully, someday complete it for me. Hint, Hint, Patch!
Although I have never taken the time to involve myself in RPGs (Rôle-playing games), I did have a rather odd D&D group back in the late 70’s, composed of a bunch of linguists and programmers of all ages, and thus the concept of an avatar or alter-ego is not foreign to me.
The Old Wolf evolved over time out of my association with the gentle inmates of the Freefall universe, to wit, Freefall itself, the Cross-Time Cafe, Carry On, 21st Century Fox, Freighter Tails, and By the Saints. You can read about him here: http://home.comcast.net/~ccdesan/OldWolf.html .

Squire_of_the_shire said, 8 months ago
I don’t mind as long as he doesn’t break out an accordian and start playing “Another One Rides the Bus”. What I find interesting is that Lena’s clothes were altered in cut, but not color. The hoe is probably sticking out of the monitor and Igor is probably hiding in a nice, soft, warm, well improved spot.

We have a good idea what Roger wants two days for.
I wonder what Lena thought she could accomplish in a mere hour? (Unless her experience as Queen didn’t allow her to learn how to properly savor and experience certain things.)
Sisyphos said, 8 months ago
9CWL: @bmonk: Edda speaks with Master’s tongue (as do most of his usually articulate characters–with such obvious exceptions as the 20-to-life Bully, etc.).

As for the difference between sketch and final in panel 3 - I think the final is more powerful, as it allows us to more fully appreciate what a dashing figure Roger has transformed himself into.

I’ve been pondering the split opinions about the different panels 3 in sketch and finished art, fearciuil and margueritem favoring the one and sylerner the other, while bmonk’s preference is not clear to me. While the sketch tight shot catches more of Roger’s questing expression, the finished art does emphasize the manly cut of his jib as well as display more clearly his costume. In the end, I think I prefer the finished art, as it is less conventional, more inventive.

Fairportfan: The Sam Browne is right for a right-handed swordsman. (less likely to slip off in action).
I don’t know if Roger was ogling Lena, but note the direction of Sartori’s gaze,,,
I thought Lena was cuter as the queen, but she looks pleased.
Based on previous experience, she probably wasn’t going to get to know her guards, if she only wanted an hour. But then again, maybe she was figuring she could come back for more. (read that any way you want)

baslimthebegger says:
“Fairportfan: The Sam Browne is right for a right-handed swordsman. (less likely to slip off in action).”
But the whole purpose of the thing is to support the weight of the sword in its scabbard.
And, if you look at the pics in the link i posted, the British military wear it from right shoulder to left hip.

So many things to comment upon, so little time…
9CwL: Edda, you can’t have it both ways… truth is truth: sometimes it makes you happy, sometimes not. Be glad for it.
Wonder if Lena is commenting upon body improvments or costume improvements? (and where’s the hoe? didn’t look like she was holding it to drop as they went through.)
I think I’m on the sketch side of things for panel 3, as his expression comes across more strongly and we already got to see his change in panel 1. (and the gaping fish look is definitely not flattering from that low angle.)
Satorin in panel 4, Hmmm I think I want to wait judgement to see if she attacks or treats Roger as friend. If she attacks, then the sketch, if friend, then the final.
I wonder what they siblings had said they wanted to go back in FOR? Evidently Lena had a short agenda, and Roger did too, until he saw Satori right there. We’ll see…..

Oh, ROLF! That moustache is priceless! Somebody is channeling Douglas Fairbanks…
Good point about the Sam Browne. However, Wikipedia says, “King Alfonso XIII of Spain wore his Sam Browne the wrong way round on his first inspection of the 16th The Queen’s Lancers as Colonel-in-Chief in 1906. In advance to his arrival, someone noticed this error and informed the commanding officer, he then ordered all those wearing Sam Browne belts to reverse those as well. This tradition has gone on through until today, with The Queen’s Royal Lancers wearing their stable belt and Sam Browne belt in reverse.”
Ref: 9CWL – A’s symphony performance may not be the (only) one HH is bravoing in her note. She may (also) be referring to his and E’s duet on the Bösendorfer prior to the competition. There is a “pirated” copy of that performance floating about the internet, don’t forget… .
As for those who posted the links to Girl Genius and Buck Godot – AARRGGHH! now I’m hooked! Only about halfway through the archives on each, but forging ahead. (I’m still giggling at odd moments about “He who must be watered”)

Pib: Looking at the sketch, I don’t get the impression that Satori is recoiling in horror… It’s more of a “full-frontal Holy Moly, stop me in my tracks, it’s YOU!” sort of thing - that’s how I see it. The final artwork has her turning towards him as she sees who it is, and I can’t say that either way is better. Satori is gorgeous any way Brooke draws her.
Nabuquduriuzhur said, 8 months ago
Some serious swordplay to come, apparently.
mojitobaby said, 8 months ago
baslimthebeggar, I used to fence, and fairportfan is correct: Brooke does have the Sam Brown backwards on both Roger and Satori. It should be running from their right shoulder to left hip as they’re right-handed swordsmen. The way he has it drawn here serves no purpose, as the whole point of the strap was to help support or steady the sword. The original Sam Brown, a cavalry officer, lost his left arm and the strap helped support the belt, keeping his sword close to his side. After cavalry and swords became obsolete, the strap was still used as sidearms in WWI were quite heavy, and it kept the holster from dragging down the belt.
Nabuquduriuzhur said, 8 months ago
Makes sense.
The .45 returned in the last few years to the military, so it’s probably needed again. The 9mm was just too underpowered, leading to events, such as those that used to be common in Portland with as many as 15 rounds in the chests of drug suspects and the suspect still trying to bring their weapons up.

Yes, you have situations where the cops are yelling “Portland Police, stop or we’ll reload!” Just sends shivers down the spines of evil doers, doesn’t it?
