Maybe Dru’s starting Lena’s transformation into a succubus…and a little of the mojo just happened to get into Igor.

    Gweedo,
I believe that pic was taken on the Princess Cay…Eleuthra Island.
We had been snorkeling (not well, but I did it) and my boys (31 & 26) were being goofy and I guess my husband snapped the pic when I was about to say something to them.

Yes, it was nice and warm and just about now I really wish we were back there! I am sick of the cold weather. I want spring, working in the garden, nice rainy days, flowers, open windows, warm sunny days that aren’t too hot, fresh clean breezes…can you tell I am not a winter person?

If anyone really thought this arc was at a wrap, let’s see where this new development leads!
Igor talking is a little spooky. Igor being sarcastic sends shivers up my spine: teddies are not known for sarcasm! One might say he’s reflecting the mojo-kiss infusion from Dru, except that Dru is the butt of his cutting remark. So what is really going on with him? Who or what is he?

    charlie37133 says:

“back in the early 50s charlies were names dagmars by slang for co-host dagmar of t.v. broadway after night with jerry lester. dagmar the co host had big big charlies. broadway after hours was a forerunner of the tonight show. also she did advertising for a car, and highlights became slang for dagmars”

    Actually, not so.

First, “headlights” was already a slang term for charlies in the 1940s at least.

Second, Dagmar didn’t do advertising for cars, and the automotive term “dagmars” redferred to large bullet-shaped bumper guards (originally on Cadillacs and other GM cars) {http://www.myclassicsandhotrods.com/listings/1097_1954_Cadillac_Convertible_IMG_0846.JPG}.

  21. Fairportfan

    Fairportfan said, 9 months ago

    charlie37133 says:

“fairportfan ### I base my statement of dagmars meaning headlights on a obituary I read on the dead woman from her home town. Born Virginia Ruth Egnor she had many stage names. Also, for a time, it was popular to buy t shirts on eBay saying HOW ARE MY DAGMARS. But since it is urban legend, methinks we are both right.”

It’s not urban legend - it’s automotive history. I remember it; i was seven in 1953, which i think was the first year Caddies had dagmars.

Not the first time an obit has been wrong.

DrystyhaPro says: “Story Teller, Yes, that’s right, Melinda Clarke! thanks for the link! The more I think about it, I’m convinced she’s perfect to play Dru, without a doubt! Too bad William Peterson couldn’t be someone in Pibgorn. They played off each other so well!”

Hmmm. I’m not sure about that. We know him best as Gil Grissom, but I’ve seen him in other things and the boy has chops…actor’s chops, that is. Frump him up a little and he could play Spitcock as a human. Of course if we were going to start at the beginning, perhaps a certain fairy king…?

aerwaltPro says: “145: I think that the Pib film will have to be animated. Pixar sans Disney or Studio Ghibli, again, sans Disney. The old Warner Bros. gang would be A HOOT. Voice casting TBD.”

Voices are my specialty. I can hear most voice actors a mile away.

I stand by Drew Barrymore for Pibgorn’s voice. Claudia Christian for Drusilla (CC was the voice of Helga Sinclair in “Atlantis: The Lost Empire”) Which reminds me that Michael J. Fox did a great job as Milo in that movie, but for Geoff, his part in the saga might have to be expanded a wee bit to get MJF on board. Maybe Wil Wheaton. Or if not for Geoff, maybe for Roger Egg.
    Tara Strong as Lena Egg.

I love it - a baiser de la fée gives you the ability to understand repartee from animals… a baiser de la farfadette does strange things to stuffed animals.

Drusilla really is taken by Lena’s personality - she’s found a little sister.

I miss the Couch, guys - all I get is a few minutes a day for the next week.

It seems Igor may be the ‘new’ character we meet as the story arc wraps … (?)

Regarding Claudia Black (in her Farscape/Aeryn persona) … oh, yeah. That’s just about the right mix of attitude, looks and nearly the perfect accent to pull off Dru. If Pibgorn were to become an animated/Japanese anime style feature, Claudia Black could still do the voice acting, as well as model for slight adjustment to such a format change.

That bear is going to be the new ‘fly in the ointment’ so to speak. I have the distinct feeling that Lena is going to want to knock the stuffings out of it before it’s all said and done.

Personally, I’m onboard with the Pixar sans Disney approach. I am also fully onboard with Drew as the voice for Pib. My choice for Dru in terms of looks and voice and attitude would be Cher. Now before I get laughed off the far eastern end of the couch, you have to admit that in her day she had the whole package. Since it’s Pixar, anyway, they could just go with vintage Cher in terms of looks and run with the voice. Dark Chocolate M&M’s anyone???

  37. Nabuquduriuzhur

Catherine Bell would be a good choice for Drusilla.

Cher wouldn’t make a good Drusilla. Dru is waaaay more intelligent. Between Sonny and Cher, the two averaged a 100 IQ. Sort of like Maxine Waters as opposed to Johnny Carson when they didn’t have prepared lines.

This is my understanding of Igor. A la Gunnerkrigg, we’ve got a spirit stuck inside a stuffed animal. And the dry, biting wit reminds me of… Spitcock! So spitcock’s low stuck as a little fuzzy bear… in the hands of Lena the ruthless.

If you would like to ‘favorite’ the strip, (and maybe the sketch, too), simply log in and click on the ‘Favorite’ star directly above the strip. Mr. McEldowney very kindly asked for us what purpose is served by favoriting, and this was the answer:

I asked my editor at Gocomics about the purpose of “favoriting” a strip. Her answer was this: “‘Favoriting’ allows people following you to see what comics you like. ‘Favorited’ comics also show up under your profile, and allow us to see what comics people are enjoying.”
Basically, I think it provides a method for spreading the word.
