    If you would like to

    ‘favorite’ the strip,

(and maybe the sketch, too), simply log in and click on the ‘Favorite’ star directly above the strip. Mr. McEldowney very kindly asked for us what purpose is served by favoriting, and this was the answer:
I asked my editor at Gocomics about the purpose of “favoriting” a strip. Her answer was this: “‘Favoriting’ allows people following you to see what comics you like. ‘Favorited’ comics also show up under your profile, and allow us to see what comics people are enjoying.”
Basically, I think it provides a method for spreading the word.

Actually, those seven fighter jets are in danger of shooting each other down, if they launch missiles while in those relative positions [I’m granting artistic license that they could range out to mid-Atlantic, and do so that fast, if land-based].

Another aspect of Drusilla’s personality is here made manifest: she is very proud of her vocabulary and speech-patterns, built up over hundreds of years and perhaps sounding a bit archaicizing to 21st century ears….

Hmmm all this talk about vocabulary got me thinking and then going Alllllllllllllll the way back to the beginning to see…
and Dru is never given (far as I could see) a vocation while she was Geoff’s girlfriend; just that she was in the choir. Given her stingness about her words, could she have been a school teacher?? I can just imagine her in front of a rowdy bunch of 6th graders…

Wow…never thought I’d hear a Wen Ho Lee reference in here…it was a grreat big deal here in NM. A local radio station here did a hilarious satirical float in our local xmas parade regarding Mr. Lee. A guy in a Lee mask follwed by several uniformed men wearing black glasses and carrying white canes. Believe it or not, the Labs and good ‘ol Bill Richardson came under more fire than Lee did.

fairportfan: I see what you meant about the rhythm of Pib’s 1st sentence yesterday–“that” seems, to me, to make better sense in the line as well as scanning better.

Guess Dru considers that, since she used to knock buskins with the Bard, she owns the rights to any diction which might have rubbed off on her….

Parallel between CwL today and Pib–heated discussions about respective relationships, but A&E are paying enough attention so that Amos eventually realizes that he’d better go and Take Care of Business.

Why does the jet in the foreground have three vertical stabilizers? Or is that supposed to be a Lockheed Constellation?

  37. Setebos

    Setebos said, 9 months ago

Actually, no one’s said those are American aircraft. To me the silhouette in the foreground doesn’t quite match a McDonnell Douglas F-15 … my first guess … and the cockpit doesn’t look right for a Tomcat F-14. I’ve been racking my brain trying to place the design. Actually, Pib and Dru could be facing a squadron of Mig 1.44s. Any help with this is appreciated.

so after going back and forth to the dictionary, the best way i can translate the first sentence (or rather what Pib said yesterday) into plain ol’ english is:

“for someone who usually acts without hesitation, i find it odd you’re not doing anything (of consequence to me) right now.”

    does this sound right?

  41. Anyol'tomcat

    Anyol'tomcatGenius_badge said, 9 months ago

I don’t know aircraft by their silhouettes but the Fri. strip newscaster said “…aircraft converge on the tsunami’s source, and governments prepare to strike.” So there must be craft from at least two countries– perhaps 3 or 4. I suspect that Brooke checked aircraft sites or a Jane’s Guide for accuracy but he has not chosen to be too forthcoming yet as to specifics.

    Radical Knight says yesterday:

I don’t know who Herbabee is over at SOTU, but he seems to be unnerving RogO just a little. For that reason alone I like him; he also sided with our Maeverin when she tried to be nice to RogO. I submit to the confusion couch committee that we appoint Herbabee as caretaker at the SOTU daycare center for bridge substructure symbionts.

just to make a clarification, that was margueritem who was playing nice. she is a far nicer person than i. (me?)

Buckykatt: I suspect we are seeing three vertical stabs because the nearest aircraft (with twin tails) is masking the flight lead who only has one. Observe the twin angled ventral stabs under the bottom of the leftmost engine nacelle. Could be an artists rendition of an F-16 (flight lead) on the left and an F-15 (wingman in fingertip formation) on the right. But I would not try too hard to ID aircraft. It is after all only an artists rendition and Brooke may not be going for technical accuracy. If he were, he would not have fighters running an intercept in fingertip formation or converging from six different directions. Just enjoy the story line.

On a separate note, to some of the other posters, please let the comments on SOTU stay there. It is starting to bleed over into the PIB universe.

Considering Pib was killed once before when she “fought” Dru, it doesn’t look good. So, what will the master pull out of his hat to save her?

NBS News WindBreak:”SecNav issued in a statement today that he sent an unnamed civilian into the center of the unknown phenomenon today. While the identity of the civilian is unknown, our photographer was able to make out what appeared to be an accordion case and sheet music in the materials he was transporting…”

Those older systems of learning worked very well. We should probably bring them back. My niece was having trouble learning to read using the “modern” approach of “whole word”, so he took her to Sylvan. What did they use? Phonics. She learned and is now at grade level.
