If you would like to
‘favorite’ the strip,
(and maybe the sketch, too), simply log in and click on the ‘Favorite’ star directly above the strip. Mr. McEldowney very kindly asked for us what purpose is served by favoriting, and this was the answer:
I asked my editor at Gocomics about the purpose of “favoriting” a strip. Her answer was this: “‘Favoriting’ allows people following you to see what comics you like. ‘Favorited’ comics also show up under your profile, and allow us to see what comics people are enjoying.”
Basically, I think it provides a method for spreading the word.

Any guesses as to where she’s headed? Spitcock’s lab?

Pib: My guess is that she’s just opened a channel at the bottom of a large body of water. Taking a page from the Ents’ book, thinks I.
9CWL: How could Edda not be melted by that kind of romanticism…
Sisyphos said, 9 months ago
Again, rewording myself, what a terrific composition, and magical coloristic light!

The lab would seem to be the logical target for Dru’s eruption!
WoodGracie said, 9 months ago
Hmmm…who or what is she going to clean up, Inky is gone, maybe she means metaphorically of all the loose ends still left to the arc.
Beautifully drawn!

Burgundy I know diddly about orchids. That was raised by the landlord’s wife. They live just next door. I forgot what she was doing with it that it was over the kitchen sink when I was there. I whipped out the old phone for that one. Next time I’m there I’ll ask.

I wonder if the eruption of Drusilla (& Pibs) will register on seismographs and , if so, how vulcanologists will explain it.

9CWL,
another “Awwww” moment.
Pibgorn,
I’m not sure where Dru is headed…maybe to tie up a few loose ends with her “clean up”
And, Thank you, it was a moderately decent night @ work. The ER was the “Q” word for the first time in months! Woo-Hoo!!

Goodnight, everyone! Tomorrow’s my last day to get ready for the trip to NYC, so I won’t have as much time to chat… In fact, I’ll probably be more or less MIA until the Con is over, except perhaps for a pop-in to see what’s happening.
Be good and eat yummy things!
Sisyphos said, 9 months ago
Not only is 9CWL another true “awwww” moment and sweet, but it is also an overture itself. Amos has something more to say, it would seem….

Back in the ’70s there was a SF best seller titled SHARDICK.
It was a story about a semi-mythical golden bear.
Thus it is written that nothing eases the mourning after a bad knight,
than the dog of the Bear that hit you!

Going into space? Maybe something else to add to her orbiting collection?
9CWL: Well done again, Amos. He really has developed a strong character – and he’ll need it with Edda.
She can draw a picture of her heart, and put a photo of him within it and place it in the box and give it to him. (He will always be in her heart).

Good night all! Happy Hump day! Travel safe and have fun cc and joe!

Just went to that great laughingstock, Portwine, the great Stoned City on the Willamette and Columbia Rivers…
Still crumbling. I give it another ten years before the City implodes. It lost 100,000 jobs from 1995 to 2005, for example. Comes from having half the City on drugs of one variety or another. Nothing like what it was 30 years ago.

Spitcock’s lab is a logical choice: I doubt the lady will want it hanging around for another Spitcock. But I do wonder what her plans are for Lena and Roger.

Nab, as a denizen of the city-on-the-two-rivers, I might take exception with your observation, except that it is mostly accurate. It is but a shadow of its former greatness, but I believe the tech sector is keeping it from final collapse and may even bring it back to vitality yet. Half the Super Bowl commercials were produced by companies from Portland, for example. Our colleges are teaching more and more high-tech stuff these days (as a Multimedia student I can attest to this). Almost every high-tech company on the planet has a major facility in or around the city, from Intel on down. I think we are potentially on the edge of turning this sinking ship around and letting the captain go water skiing! (Mixed metaphors a specialty) =)
Incidentally, the common misconception is that Portland got the knick name “Stumptown” because of the timber industry which used to thrive in the region. Not true. Actually, when they first cleared the land for the township, way back when, they did not bother to remove the stumps of the trees they has cut down and rather than have them be a hazard to traffic, they painted them white so mounted riders and buggy operators could see them in the road. Portland has always done things a little different.
Oh, and BTW, from what great burg do you hail…?

An ER joke for you:
Aging Aunt Mildred was a 93-year-old woman who was particularly
despondent over the recent death of her husband. She decided she
would just kill herself and join him in death.
Thinking that it would be best to get it over with quickly, she took out his old Army pistol and made the decision to shoot herself in the heart since it was so badly broken in the first place.
Not wanting to miss the vital organ and become a vegetable and a burden to someone, she called her doctor’s office to inquire as to just exactly where the heart would be in a woman.
The doctor said her heart would be just below her left breast.
Later that night, Mildred was admitted to the hospital ER with a gunshot wound to her knee.

Hmmmm. Edda once did some “streetcleaning” by laying curses on a whole mess of New Yorkers, incl. 42 whose sin was “being ugly.” Think it may’ve been residual anger at Isabel.
9 CwL: Now might be the optimal time for the Announcer to rush in, grab Amos and hustle him onstage. Just to prolong our misery.

Susan Kayser – ditto on that one. A 9CWL version of Gift of the Magi.
And I used to think that the story of Diane and Frances was the most romantic story to come across on 9CWL – should have seen this one coming.

I think we have three options on where Dru is going.
Spitcock’s lab.
A body of water, to hose out Tom T.’s game show.
Yet another McEldowney twist in the plot, just to bedevil the readers.

Goodness! My last two entries came in reverse order, which in itself isn’t unusual, but they were posted at least ten minutes apart! Server clocks alone can’t be doing that. Who’s been playing with the DeLorean?
Edit: Even this entry came before the previous one, which was the last displayed but first posted of the two mentioned, which in turn has to mean that my comment about 9CwL is still about to get posted at some point in the future. Doc? Marty? What the heck are you two up to?
inshadowz said, 9 months ago
9CwL:
Pray that one should always find such perfect words at the right time. As Captain Jack Sparrow put it, ”If you were looking for the opportune moment, that was it”, when William Turner Jr. missed his. Amos, on the other hand, keeps a steady aim and strikes home without missing a beat.
However, in the event that you should be tempted to try this out on your own, remember to make sure that your lady responds to ”collector’s item” in relation to ”one of a kind”, rather than ”collector’s item” on its own. In the latter case, you may be confronted with a wish to know where the rest of your darned collection is, and suggestions as to where you may stick it ;)

I realize that it is obvious that Mr. McEldowney’s story and art improve every day. I believe that it is good to mention on occasion for any newcomers. Stay tuned, the best has yet to come.
Applause to you Mr. McEldowney.
And a request, please rush the current story to Pibpress as soon as it is completed. Thank you.
I wonder how sales for the first two books have been. Is ‘Pibgorn - The girl in the coffee cup’ in its second printing, or third?
I would love to see Mr. McEldowney’s adaptation of “A Midsummer night’s dream’ as a stage play.
Goodbye for now

Excellent reference. Also see Joseph Campbell for the references to the creation of beer. Just a side note, in almost all myths/cultures (all that I am aware of), the diety of beer is female.

It’s OK, I’ve figured out the massive time distortions today. A power surge in my basement had brought the flux capacitor in the washing machine out of alignment during the night. It should be fixed now, I hope.
Why a flux capacitor in the washing machine? Because I hate having to wait almost two hours for my laundry. Should have suspected it a bit sooner though. The one in the dishwasher was out of whack yesterday, to the extent that it claimed to be finished before I even put the dishes in and I ended up having to do them by hand instead. Pruuune fingerrrs!
Brought some cheese and biscuits for the couch. Never mind if the White Castello is a tad runny. That’s how it gets at room temperature, and that’s when it tastes the best. Just make sure it stays put on the Ritz!
