Read the comments! All of them! Or you’ll miss something! (Shame!)
(No trolls need apply.)
When my kids would make a racket like that, I would ask them if there was bone sticking out or blood spurting. If the answer was “No”, I then told them to clean it up before they left the room. I never got a “Yes”….thank the Good Lord!
I think Lena’s mom is so used to listening to her and Roger’s fighting and bickering that a little noise is not going to phase her.
Is she gonna leave anything for Dru to finish off?
Just popped in to leave a plate of rice krispie treats…there’s napkins so you don’t get butter on the couch.
Night all!
ccdesan: interesting speculation about the possible source of Prince Crewth’s name. –And, by the way, a hearty second to your thanks to TheSkulker for that pibgorn link & its throaty sound! –And he had some interesting thoughts “yesterday” about the Master’s creative process, too.
“Mom? Can I go outside and play?”
“What will you be playing, Lena?”
“Stickball.”
“Okay, but dinner will be ready in ten days. Where’s your brother?”
“He’ll be home soon. He just had to pop out for a bite.”
“He’ll ruin his appetite!”
“Don’t worry, Mom. It’s just a light snack.”
Good night all. Will probably do more lurking this week than joining in.
Merry Christmas to all of you couch denizens and to the lurkers too! This strip and the comments have made many a difficult night easier to bear and for that, I thank you!
Sisyphos: Thanks for correcting the credits for the Pibgorn instrument and sound
link. I feel it is important to give credit where credit is due, espcially to a
newcomer to the couch. It also points out a problem with the posts: both you and
ccdesan missed the original post by KalahariNight. So much gets overlooked in the
plethora of messages here. It’s almost a full time job to keep up.
9CWL: Amos seems to know a lot about the petite Ms. Yuan.
it was an international competition and at that level of play the cellists most likely are familiar with each others work and if not Amos had lots of time back in the states to look up the info.
Fearciuil: Thank you for the boilerplate and the “Don’t forget to ‘favorite’ the strip”. I’m always in such a hurry to see the strip and the comments that I would forget if your headline weren’t there.
As far as Mrs. Egg is concerned (as was I) as long as there is noise everything’s probably reasonably ok -not necessarily good, but ok. It was those ominous silences that got my parental antennae quivering. As long as it was noisy, I knew where they were and I knew what they’re doing.
I’ve got to leave early for work today if I want to be able to park within reasonable walking distance of the doors (holiday concert today). However, I’ll leave you with a warm-from- the-oven coffee cake with brown sugar streusal (recipe available upon request, Kal) and an urn of French Roast. There’s oj in the fridge-fresh squeezed. Enjoy couch friends, I’m off to see the cherubs.!
I’ve been reading this strip and lurking around for a litte bit so I thought I put my two cents in. I’m pretty sure by the time Dru shows up to finish Spinky he’ll be begging Dru to save him from Lena.
“When my kids would make a racket like that, I would ask them if there was bone sticking out or blood spurting. If the answer was ‘No’, I then told them to clean it up before they left the room. I never got a ‘Yes’….thank the Good Lord!”
In Please Don’t Eat the Daisies, Jean Kerr said that, finally realising that the answer from upstairs to “What was that crash?” would inevitably be “What crash?”, she began yelling, instead “Hey you up there - pick up your pants!” on the joint theory that, since there was no screaming, no-one was seriously injured, and that someoine up there had a pair of pants that needed picking up, which would interrupt whatever nefarious action was going on.

Well, once you name your heroine after one obscure Welsh musical instrument, it would make sense to use the name of another for a suitably mystical-sounding character name.

Someone mentioned that Spinky obviously forgot his cup.
I just remembered hearing of a British women’s soccer (maybe rugby?) player, who refers to the female equivalent (and any guys who don’t think females need such protection should think again…) as a “manhole cover”.
Crwth is only the Welsh Gaelic name for the late medieval instrument elsewhere known as the rotta, chrotta, cruit, etc. However, given the dual purpose of the name “pibgorn” in our current context, perhaps the Prince was in fact named after a stringed instrument.
A fantastic saga of adventure both high and low, of forbidden passion and iambic pentameter, of fays, fools, organists, demons, accordions, heaven, hell and Shakespeare, Pibgorn follows the whims and flights of its eponymous fairy heroine as she plies her conviction that there must be more to life than depositing dew drops on dandelions and sleeping under mushrooms.
