scaredycat! Though with Lena’s first hoe-shot inches from his fluffy-maned noggin, and Dru on the way, I guess he should be scared!
Dru holding her hand up in front of her face is almost like Roger’s innocence got through to her like nothing else would….and then her mind goes to Spitcock!
Spitcock may not be in one piece for Dru to get if Lena has her way with the hoe!
Luckily for Roger, that comment brought Dru back to her senses and made her canalize her rage properly… but why though? Was it because it brought back Pib’s comment of “he’s only a boy”?
Spitcock, as we had expected, is expressing genuine fear to our little hoe-wielding “bitch”
Lastly, let me paraphrase Satori: “What’s with this creature? She can’t even [be viciously murderous] without looking sexy!”
Margueritem,
I am not sure being held off the ground at arms length is exactly “mom” like. It also appears the young lady is about to tear away the border to achieve her desire.
Margueritem, maybe Lena’s just supposed to keep him busy until Dru gets there…That might have been Roger’s plan, or would it be Mr McE’s, who draws this strip, so….ooo, double personality time.
and, now, we sit and wait until Monday. At least Dru’s anger/demoness is headed in the right direction. And, is it my imagination, or does Spitty look apprehensive. Lena’s demoness is going in the right direction, too. What’s Spitty gonna do when Dru and Lena team up? And, now we sit and wait till Monday…Oh, wait, I already said that….So, sorry ;)
Dru’s hand gesture reminds me of the Vulcan mind meld grip about to be applied. Of course, the recipients of Dru’s melds have generally felt more satisfaction afterward.
EDIT: Flipping back and forth, it appears that not one panel went unchanged between sketch and finish, though the changes in panel 1 are the most minimal…
Is “…I don’t even drive yet” code for for “I’m a virgin”?
My son, who is about Roger’s age, thinks about driving and how many months/days/milliseconds ‘till he gets his learner’s permit almost as much as he thinks about girls, so maybe it is what it is.
“Dru’s hand gesture reminds me of the Vulcan mind meld grip about to be applied. Of course, the recipients of Dru’s melds have generally felt more satisfaction afterward.”
In his absolutely hilarious Star Trek novel, How much for Just the Planet?, the late John M Ford features (among other characters) an extremely Klingon Chief Security Officer, and a comm officer on the same ship who is a bit of a geek and loves Terran film noire.
At one point the CSO loses his temper rather impressively, grabs the comm officer by the throat and raises the other hand in a manner described as being irresistably reminiscent of preparing to uncap a beer bottle…
Evenin’, all. Dru’s question has me wondering - it’s obvious Roger & Dru could see Spitcock battling the Satori clones, but then Spitcock jumped through the portal, and tried to fry Lena. But he fizzed. Dru says (081211), “Where did his power go?” But how she did know he was out of gas? The screen they are watching showed Suzerain, didn’t it?
Fairport, bravo on the comparison piece! I noticed that in the third pannel of the sketch, Dru has “tossed” Roger, but in the finished product she is holding him up. And I agree about the differences in Inky’s eyes between the sketch and final.
That’s it for now…
Drusilla once again declines to ravish (or consume) an underage victim (See? See? She’s got a heart in there, but we already knew that!)
Lena may get her second licks in yet…
9CWL: When it comes to music, Isabel is pure. That’s about the only place it seems to show up. Amos won fair and square, and Isabel is pyst that this upstart is trying to take Amos’ prize away.
@Fairportfan: Nice comparison rollover. Reminds me of something…
I like Drusilla’s reaction to Roger in the finished picture… she’s almost saying “Get thee behind me”. I’m wondering if there’s something in her constitution that has changed since she was about to ravish him in Farfallaland… she seemed to have no compunctions there.
To be sure, wildflowerose. I get it about teenaged guys–I was one, once–, but I was thinking more in the context of the comics-universe and of the Master’s need for constant vigilance against the Bluestocking Police, plus, what the likely reaction of Dru might be….
Personally, i think the most interesting divergence between sketch and finish is panel 2 - most obviously, the sketch does not show Dru with upraised hand, but beyond that, it shows a completely different pose and expression…
Ah, but note her expression in the panel above. She has stopped her lunge toward his throat. Sure, she’s still has a stranglehold on him, but he’ll recover much easier from that.
I see em now. sigh I have got to stop staying up. Just a nip of Bailey’s and it’s off to bed for me. Everybody have a butterscotch oatmeal cookie…I baked today.
Margueritem, maybe Lena’s just supposed to keep him busy until Dru gets there…That might have been Roger’s plan, or would it be Mr McE’s, who draws this strip, so….ooo, double personality time.
9CWL: I just went through the strips (for 9CWL) that I have saved to my computer, and I couldn’t find the one I was looking for … I’ll just attempt to quote the punchline:
“Somewhere, a cartoonist is guilty of what she’s thinking.”
Is Spinky down on the ground/floor, or has Lena’s hoe just taken a chunk out of the wall?
And that doesn’t look like any wall/floor i’d expect to see in a fifteen-year-old geek’s bed/computer room, BTW.
And what about the big monitor with the lines on the floor - you know, the one that Brooke’s probably been hoping we’d forgotten about after all this time?
EDIT:
Something i noticed earlier and meant to make comment on - possibly the most subtle but very interesting dofference between sketch and finish is the difference in the position of Dru’s head and what it means in terms of just what she might be doing.
A fantastic saga of adventure both high and low, of forbidden passion and iambic pentameter, of fays, fools, organists, demons, accordions, heaven, hell and Shakespeare, Pibgorn follows the whims and flights of its eponymous fairy heroine as she plies her conviction that there must be more to life than depositing dew drops on dandelions and sleeping under mushrooms.

Maybe Lena’s like Fred and George Weasley–small explosions (or, in this case, crashes) coming from her room are considered perfectly normal.

Dru’s hand in front of her face echoes Christopher Lee’s Dracula when confronted with a cross.
I’m not sure whether i’d prefer the finish or the sketch’s action were i Roger.
One promises bruises on the throat and difficulty speaking/swallowing for some time.
The other promises differently-placed bruises and contusions and difficulty sitting for some time.
