There you go people. You wanted Roger to make a run for it.
And, is Dru’s hand stretched out towards Lena? Or is it just sticking out of the pannel not pointing anywhere in particular?
Poor Lena. I’m already feeling sorry for her. Remember her first words back on June 27, 2007? http://picayune.uclick.com/comics/pib/2007/pib070627.gif
And I’ll take a line to say how much I hate the new format: It may load faster on my crummy old computer, but it makes it a lot longer to skim through the comments. I can’t use Firefox’s Ctrl+F anymore!
Many people have been referring to Satori as a non-playable character. However, the fact that she follows Roger (consider him the player) around everywhere makes her seem sort of his “party”: the group of in-game characters you “control” (“control”, in quotes, because you usually can’t directly tell them to go here or there, they seem to be following you out of their own accord). This would make her a playable character, and would make the fact that it is she who kills the queen less awkward. Naturally, you can never control what in-game characters say, even the playable ones.
Many people are buzzing all around whatever happened to the knight. (I have to admit, I probably started it all over again.) However, if the knight “worked” for the Queen, February 25th, 2008’s strip http://picayune.uclick.com/comics/pib/2008/pib080225.gif offers an interesting insight as to his fate (and that of as many knights as you want to see the game as having)
OldPossum says:
“raison d’etre :)”
reason is valid, he’s just translating the first word of the expression. Mais on écrit «être» avec un accent circumflex sur la «e»
progan01:
“Satori didn’t know she was a program, let alone that she was the only avenger (she kept speaking of slain brothers and sisters, who never existed). Now she’s aware not only that she’s in a simulation, but that it’s over, and that it’s name is “Suzerain?” Doesn’t add up.”
This would seem to be a pre-programmed response. Something she has a compulsion to say automatically when a certain condition is met ( if status of Queen = dead; say “The queen is dead. ‘Suzerain’ is compleated”; Pixelate; end if ). Thus it matters not if she knew about it before hand, she was sort of fated to say it all along, even if she didn’t know what it meant.

Why didn’t Roger take Lena out of the game??? What is he running to get that is so urgent? And Dru seems to be doing a FINE job with Inky!
Now I will have to wait for another WEEK to see what happens. We leave Sunday to go on a cruise.
A good cliff hanger, but
DANG!!!

Inky is sure easily distracted.

I posted this yesterday, and nobody responded … was it something totally obvious to everybody but me?
Emlyn’s comments got me thinking: Roger and Lena are Eggs.
In the gaming sense…?

Eggs- more like the Vladimir Ilych Lenin sense. That dear old mass murderer said once that you didn’t make an omlet without cracking a few eggs.

emjrn:
“Why didn’t Roger take Lena out of the game???”
Roger obviously still thinks Lena “can’t go back the way she is”. However, won’t stepping out of the game accelerate the time flow again? Wouldn’t that be bad for Lena’s bleeding wound?
Frida Bonita:
“Run Roger! Run!!!
“okay, who saw Forrest Gump?”
Ah, Forrest Gump. One of the greatest places to pull quotes out of during my youth.
Ranma½, when you come around here again, I wanted to let you know was hoping to make a compilation page of all the “Joe Minotaur”s, so I was wondering if you could re-post the dates again? (The exact page is probably a bit too much to ask, given the new format)
edit:
One last comment and I’ll call it “night”: I love the punchline; Mom’s still making dinner

Looks like Roger has a plan – reboot the game from his own machine, perhaps?
emjrn said, about 1 year ago
Thank you Margueitem. This will give me something to look forward to instead of the let down feeling that the vacation in the Carribean is over.
We are taking our 2 adult sons, and they are pretty entertaining all by themselves!
Nabuquduriuzhur said, about 1 year ago
Maybe Roger could get to a trauma center there in NY and hack their computer into Spitty’s. that way, he could pull Lena into the hospital directly.

An “Easter egg” in a game is a hidden goodie, joke, message, etc.

Of all the reasons not to die, being late for dinner isn’t high on my list. Who knows? Maybe mom’s cooking is a fate worse than death.
Frida, it was Forrest Grump who said, “My momma always said, ‘Life is like a box of chocolates. You open it up to find someone else got the best bits first.’”
fearciuil, I was in the game industry a while ago, and the programmers hated me because I considered easter eggs unprofessional behavior.

Eastern or western?

emjrn said, about 1 year ago
Fly Guy,
It is our 2nd cruise. We are headed to the eastern Carribean…St Martin, St Thomas, Grand Turks….all of those islands that Hurricane Ike scoured!
2 years ago, we went to the western Carribean and had a blast! We were there for our 30th anniversary, so this time we agreed to take the boys….not that we will ever see them after we get on board.

Fearciuil says: An “Easter egg” in a game is a hidden goody, joke, message, etc.
I figured that ‘Egg’ was short for ‘egghead’, but being that this is a computer game, they may still have hidden qualities that aren’t apparent yet, as you said.

Eggs
– as in Easter Eggs –
A gaming concept where some undocumented feature or goodie crops up in the game in an unanticipated place, that’s either fun, cute, takes you to a “secret level,” etc.
Such as, for example, if you click everything in the environment, 99.99% of them do nothing, or do the expected. You click the wall, nothing. You click a beer can, it’s knocked over.
– but –
You click on, say, a funny shaped bottle, and a Genie pops out and grants a wish, such as, more hit points, refill your mana, go to a secret level, etc.
Or, you click on a TV, and it starts playing a commercial for the game, even though, theoretically you’re not in a game, you’re trying to rid the planet of Martians or whatever.
Generally, the Easter Egg doesn’t help you or hinder you in any way, but it might make you laugh.
Etc.
UncaAlby said, about 1 year ago
It’s called an “Easter Egg” along the lines of the traditional “Easter Egg Hunt” where the eggs are hidden all over the place, and the idea is to find as many as you can.
Hopefully to find all of them, because the ones you don’t find will spoil and start to smell!

I tried to post earlier and got kicked off for some reason…
Roger’s gonna bring her through a different portal…bringing her home th way she came will make her 8 again?! I have NEVER gotten to post early b4. It’s not even midnight here. Wheeeee! Gonna go to bed now. See ya on the couch in the morning. Bagels on me.

Fly Guy,
Will let you know how the Eastern one is as compared to the Western.
Even with the Hurricane damage, I would bet the scenery is still beautiful, and the beaches are there and I can plop my rear end down in the sand and toes in the water and soak up some sun!

It’s clear that Roger loves Lena as only a brother can love a sister, in spite of the thermonuclear war that constantly goes on between them. Roger’s a good kid at heart. I’m not sure what Lena is yet.
@Pokefan_Frank: I’m working with Poms to gather all of the Forum creative efforts into one place and post them in one or more sub-pages of the Tribute site. However, since people are so blasted free with their creativity, this is rapidly becoming a huge undertaking. Be patient, and I’ll do my best to create the time to make this happen.
Nytol… and now to bed!

9CL: Oh, now Edda’s growing a set of cojones (which you can almost see from under that baby-doll)! I agree that Amos deserves it, as he is being a big baby.
It will be interesting how the relationship works with them both being more forthright, whereas before they both tended to wait for the other to make a move. God- I’m analysing these characters way too much lol! Time to get back to reality…

“Many people have been referring to Satori as a non-playable character.
“NPC” is “non player character”, not “non playable” (oops - left the “p” off “playable” when i typed it - boy, that might have gotten some responses). NPCs are sometimes friends, sometimes enemies, generally controlled by the game/gamemaster. They will, if firendly, give information or help, or even join your party. Soemtimes they have their own agendas.
That sounds like Satori to me.

Dru is a mistress of meiosis, not unlike Doug Piranha’s skills with litotes. A nice parallel to Roger’s concerns about death and dejeuner. Like a neoclassical couplet, that. Pope, mebbe?
Chickweed Have A & E entered the Adult Dialog Event Horizon? Anger can do amazing things to grow backbone. Now A. needs to tell Little Miss Ramrod, in adult terms, just how he feels about all that bullying she has visited upon him for all these years. Then she can respond….
