I knew that hat was gonna be a Chekhov’s Gun, somehow!

But in the last panel, things don’t look good for the Home Team!

I have some concern about the last panel. It looks to me that some of Inky’s rays have hit Luc.

Mother of God! Is this the end of Luciano?

  6. Margueritem

I’m going to say no, that Luciano will be all right. He is a fairy creature after all, and there are methods of bringing him back.

  7. Skulker

Skulker said, about 1 year ago

No, No. Luciano’s a magical person also. He won;’t die. He also, probably has a few tricks up his sleeve. (if he had a sleeve.)

This doesn’t look good. Firstly, flies and electrical currents have never gone well together. Second, that hat is so not Inky. It makes him look like that extra member of the Village People.

Didn’t know that flies had eyebrows.
But I guess they are necessary. Eyebrows express emotion easier, more clearly and more quickly than any other facial characteristic. With a couple of little strokes a cartoonist, or any artist, can quickly convey an emotion on people, animals or even inanimate objects.

Ouch. Ironic that Inky couldn’t hit Luciano on purpose but zaps him with a random bolt. I’m trusting Luciano is fay enough to withstand the energy.

    Margueritem: glad you like it.

    Luciano has guts!

Fairportfan: OK, I think I’ve done my best to reflect both the facts of the strip and your recommendations.

    @fearciuil: what’s a writer of L&A fic doing with “musician” as a handle? ;^)

OK, time to climb the wooden hill. I’ll never live to wed his niece, I’ll only die to feed his geese. Goodnight, goodbye, and sorry.

It’s going to be a looonnng time before this arc ends. I bet we get at least two more days of Luciano and Inky fighting and them maybe a teaser on what’s happening in Suzerain with Dru & Satori, Roger & Lena and now Geoff & Pib. And let’s not forget Dru is still strung up on the rack.

So is Brooke a master of suspense or what? We’re going to have cliffhangers all week!

The hat appeared again! That should make everybody happy.

Is it just me, or did today’s strip go up earlier?

It is funny that the amount of posts appears to be increasing exponentially, perhaps because more and more people are stopping their “lurking” and are actually writing stuff.

Kudos to FridaBonita for the “boilerplate”

    elfelvin:
I went to Chickweed Cafe… but about the hats Edda and Amos are wearing, hmmm…

I don’t think it implies anything about them. It’s just that the day after tomorrow it’s October, and Mr. McEldowney wanted to be ready for Halloween coming up.

    Skulker said yesterday:

Does anyone here know how to bump up the hit position on google?

Well, they sell advertising based on searched keywords – –

Google’s ranking algorithm is a closely guarded secret, and they tweak it now and then if they think someone has found a way to artificially improve their rank.

That being said, one well-known attribute that gets a high rank is links from other sites. The idea being that, if other webmasters believe your site is worthy of linking from their site, then that bodes well for your relevance to searches.

So, the thing to do is to get other webmasters to put a link on their site to yours. It’s very common to have “Link Exchanges”, where A will link to B will link to A. Google reads the text in and around the link; which makes sense so that “Pibgorn” won’t show up in a search for “Musical Instruments”; so make sure the link has appropriate keywords.

As was noted in earlier frame posts, the best place to aim to get an ascending fly is UP and BACK. Looks like its not only Brooke that’s reading these comments…..

We’ve had one of those electric fly-zappers and its never worked properly, so I’m rooting for Luc to be dazed but not shattered. On another tack, hats have their own properties too, like Flann O’Briens bicycle seats. I’d like to think that a Salvation Army hat would imbue its wearer with some of the ethical considerations of the previous incumbent.

The Old WolfGenius_badge said, about 1 year ago

Comments here reminded me that I had never done any SEO optimizing on the tribute site. I just went in and added a bunch of META tags which should help bump the page’s rankings on Google the next time it’s crawled.

But the idea of link density is also a key factor…

Getting back to the Who’s Who?” question, involving Spitcock, Inky and even (possibly) Roger:

I think Brooke was toying with us in the early days of this story - the shadowy figure which we now must assume to have been Spitcock looks rather more like Roge than it does like Spitcock (and, going back over these early strips to fins the ones i wanted, i note that Roger’s posture has improved considerably…)

http://picayune.uclick.com/comics/pib/2007/pib070622.gif - Those are Roger’s sleeves; we never see Spitcock in anything but a suit, whereas Roger is always wearing that sweater - except when he isn’t.

Or anything else, for that matter.

http://picayune.uclick.com/comics/pib/2007/pib070831.gif - Looks to me as if the silhouette we see has a full head of hair, which Spitcock definitely doesn’t, and the head is shaed more like Roger’s than Spitcock’s.

And on a different tack - things that might make a nervous syndicate editor twitchy:

Observe Dru’s little by-play with the knob on the end of the sword’s hilt: http://picayune.uclick.com/comics/pib/2007/pib070815.gif - freudian, much? (Especially given Dru’s earlier paraphrase of Mae West.)

  32. Fairportfan

Fairportfan said, about 1 year ago

    Oh, yeah - ccdesan:

When Dru appears in the fghter pilot’s dream (or takes him ointo her world, or whatever) she’s’s not “dressed rather provocatively as a show girl” like just ANY showgirl - that’s Marlene Dietrich’s costume and pose from “The Blue Angel” - http://www.filmforum.org/archivedfilms/blueangel.html - down to the beer barrel she’s posing on.

The amazing part is that he can keep us in suspense for days and weeks on end, and this chat group keeps growing. I haven’t heard anyone say yet that they’ve gotten tired of waiting and had better things to do. Now THAT takes talent!

Man, I wanted Luc to get the hat, but I wanted him to keep it! Oh well. A necessary sacrifice, I guess…

Mr. McEldowney once said that he does not draw a character without first deciding what the character’s name is.

I wonder what he calls Inky?

Hat’s too big? I think Inky(pending official naming by Mr. McE) takes a 6 and 7/8ths. Give the man a batton and he could be a Drum Major.

If you haven’t already done, you need to check out Brooke’s most recent blog entry at http://officialpibgorn.livejournal.com/
It explains all about the nipples, other naughty bits, and even why Thorax wears coveralls. Also a great drawing of Edda and Seth in the swimwear competition.

I finally signed up and singed in! All because I thought there was NO other person in the world that quoted - “My name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die!”

Now if I could just find someone quoting - “Time to make the donuts. Time to make the donuts.”

A day without Pibgorn is like a day without waking up.

BTW - I think Luciano is arcing that energy between his hands, fingers, ah ah paws, no, ah ah apendages and is going to blast Inky back, catch his hat, and dive into the portal!

how ‘bout that for a first post?

    gotta luv it

Congrats to all those who stayed awake! Unfortunately, my eyelids did not want to cooperate - plus having to be a work at 6 a.m. - their logic won over the parts that wanted to wait up.

Magical flies probably will survive and if not, Pib has her fairy kiss to bring him back.

Hope Frida did not have any nightmares about the Village People. (hehehe)

Pretty good blog by Brooke – wonder if he caught the Monty Python reference in the way we’ve been tossing about the phrase “naughty bits”? :-)

The imaginative poses in keeping the art work true and still blue seem to add all the more to characters like Inky. He’s either looking like a classical Greek statue, or a modern body builder.

Wondering about the action in the last two panels of today’s Pibgorn. Luciano claps the hat down hard on Inky, smacking it down with his backside (if that’s a fly backside) for good measure, and as he does so Inky’s arms are outspread. Looks like stretched his arms out just like that, just barely catching Luciano and maybe suspending him in the air?

Luciano is lightning fast, too fast for Inky. Once he’s free of the plasma bolts, he’s outa there!
