I didn’t see this coming…and neither did Geoff until it was too late.
Well, the postman’s on his way. Where’s Dagwood?

Well, we were right about Luciano bumping Geoff and Pib into the portal.
.
But wrong about Luciano falling into the portal himself.

Well, 1 out of 2 ain’t half bad!

Before Luciano bowls them into the monitor there are already spark flying? Is this due to Roger and Lena breaking through from the other side?

I’d like to thank all those who’ve been posting links to the Houston Chronicle site these past few days in searching fro archived 9CL. It’s not everything, put it’s more than most – nothing shows that the Information Super Highway has a long way before it becomes the receptacle for all printed knowledge it’s been hyped as then when one is looking for old comic strips :(
Most archived comic strips sites, even syndicate-owned ones - DailyInk.com - only hold the past year’s worth of strips. Others zigzag between being wonderfully complete to insanely spotty - just compare the archives for “Doonesbury” and “Dick Tracy” right here on gocomics!
In the meantime, it’s nice to know fellow fans can help one another in tracking down those lost pieces of the puzzle. :)

Given that we have not been shown Roger and Lena actually entering the portal from their side as yet, I would presume Inky left the motor running when *he* came out.

Coming out of lurking mode…
In panel 3 it looks like Luciano is moving forward out of control, but after he hits Jeff & Pib, his wings move down, as if to stop himself from following them in. Maybe he’s thinking he might be of more use outside this screen…
Back lurking…

Fridabonita, that monitor *is* doing an unusual amount of glowing, so you could be right. We haven’t seen Roger and Lena for a while, and they could be at the portal by now.

Yep, I vote on Luciano getting himself together and then going after his love.
Inky will probably free Dru, but then what?

And the next strip is Friday’s! Not that I’m ungrateful for all of the wonderful work that Brooke has done, but why does the week have to go by so fast?

I’m not sure Luciano is going to be in much condition to go after them - 37 pounds (about 16 kg) hitting two adults (100 kg+) - look at how they have been bowled - he’s taken quite a knock - Law of Conservation of Momentum
Hroth said, about 1 year ago
YESSS!
As for Luciano, the last frame is clearly an Oooff!!! moment, but he’s headed into the Portal along with Geoff and Pib.
The plot thickens! (as if it weren’t thick enough already..)
9CWL - Looks like Amos has blown it. He’s started to hiccup.

.
He is, however, magical - if he weren’y, he couldn’t fly, due to the squarecube law - weight scales up by the cube of magnification (if something is made twice as large, it weighs 8 times as much, 3 times a large weighs 27 times as much), but the area of his wings (and the lifting force thereof) only scales by the square - 4 tims as much for 2X, 9 times as much for 3x, etc.
.
So if he wasn’t magical, he couldn’t fly; and we’ve seen magical beings take hard knocks and do fine - remember when Pib got flatttend on the nose of a highspeed diesel like a bug on a windshield?

Fairportfan - so true. I knew there was a flaw somewhere. Loved the expression on Pib’s face as she realised Henmellyn was about to be diced…
I’m thinking Igor is more than he seems - maybe he & Inky are connected. Which means that he is jealous of Dru for being Lena’s role model, and is set on eliminating her.

fairportfan and mikkail: Given that Luciano cannot have dropped more than 1/2 meter after being launched by the incubus (due to gravity), the laws of motion dictate that the amount of time elapsed over the distance thrown cannot be more than a few hundred milliseconds, far less time than necessary for Geoff to hear the ruckus, react, and turn around before being struck. So Geoff must have turned around before Luciano was extracted from the face of the incubus.
And I did some calculations based on a few estimates of Geoff’s height and the wieght numbers mikkail gave, and using the law of conservation of momentum in a collision (Newtonian mechanics, not the relativistic physics the folks at the new European atom smasher have to use), the amount of time depicted above before and after the collision is almost instantaneous. So yesterday and today’s comics depict events that occurred in much less than a second.
That’s right, I ruminate on physics when I read the comics. Bill Amend would be proud.

Thanks for the link to Picayune. Is that the Times-Picayune of New Orleans (www.nola.com)? If so, how did you find it? They have no comics on their site (that I could find). Do you know what other strips they carry.

Alright, UncaAlby, let’s all act as adults and arrest this allusion of animosity, alienation and acrimony, alleviate any attempts to argue about accuracy and actually agree to aspire to accentuate agreement and amity, accumulate appealing attributes of acceptance, affection, affable appearance and accommodation, applaud achievements and accomplishments, arrange actions to accrue accolades and acclaim, and ardently appeal to associate alliteration to archives and move on to onomatopoeia!
Gee, maybe I did learn something in high school, ‘lo these many years ago. ;)

In the first frame, it looks like Geoff is planning to carry Pib into the monitor anyway. Then in the second frame, he glances back. Unless this is a flashback, Luciano is already on the way. Then he turns around in the third frame. Luciano seems to be back-pedaling furiously. Then the collision occurs. Txmystic, your computation doesn’t take into account that L has wings and can counteract gravity. If he was thrown from a long way off, he might have been moving for a half second or so. But most likely, Brooke has taken liberties with the time scale here.

Skulker, except for the “acting like adults” part, I’m in total agreement!
UncaAlby said, about 1 year ago
Skulker, are you sure you’ve got your clock set right? The strip *is* available at 10Pm Pacific Time or soon thereafter.
.
Currently gocomics.com is the only source for the “Pibgorn” strip.
.
Maybe it just takes time for the signal to worm its way through the network to wherever you happen to be located. That might take different amounts of time, depending on whether you’re in Vancouver or Tijuana.
.
I know when you do technical stuff like change domain names (“gocomics.com” is a domain name), it can take upwards of 48 hours (usually a lot less, but not instantaneous) for all the domain servers all over the world to get the message and update their systems. So for example, if GoComics.com decides to become SlowComics.com, some people will still be able to enter “gocomics.com” and get to the site for hours after the change, because some of the servers won’t have gotten the message yet.

Luciano is going in voluntarily.
Pokefan_Frank said, about 1 year ago
Look, physics annalysts, as Uncalby so casually pointed out yesterday, “it’s a cartoon!” Therefore, Mr. McEldowney is free to use cartoon physics whenever he wants to, for which reason although Luciano did seem to have been thrown very hard, it has no implication on how long it took him to actually hit Geoff. Per cartoon physics, he had to wait for Geoff to turn around to crash into him.
As for Chickweed Lane, Amos unusual loudness this week has been acting; as implied by yesterday’s last pannel, “I learned from a master”. He’s trying to fool Edda into thinking she’s “draw[ing] on [her] infinite spectrum of ways” to make him “turn the color of an eggplant and masticate the air with speechless rage” hoping that if she think so soon enough, she will “knock it off”

Lurk away, but I think Luciano’s wings are back simply due to impact. My suspicion, though, is that he’ll follow anyway. After all, his beloved Pib just went in there.

Ah, there is another daily strip that I miss.
UncaAlby says: …Nah. I think he’s staring at the screen in wide wonder, thinking to himself, “NOW what?”
My thoughts exactly. Either that, or “Do I really want to do this?” I’m thinking maybe I was wrong yesterday about Geoff knowing what he was doing. Oh well. There is my obligatory one mistake for the day. ;)-
Someone made mention (sry, can’t remember who) that they thought Inky would set Dru free. I posted this thought late last night, after most sane people had stopped reading, and the insane ones were constantly hitting “refresh” to see today’s installment. (grin!) Inky may not want to set Dru free. He could just as easily extracted Dru instead of Pib, and left Pib to rot. He didn’t, though. His amour is, after all, a demon, and demons are notoriously unpredictable and difficult to control. Leaving her this way and getting rid of Pib, he’d have access to all her power without Pib’s restraining influence, and he’d still be able to get his jollies while in the game.

I just read today’s 9CL. Poor Amos. I don’t think he’s putting on an act, but Edda certainly is stressing him out. My impression has always been that he hiccups when he’s nervous. Anyone else have a different perception of it?

Oh my, such a lively group this day. Behold the beautifully bamboozle babblings of the bold bookwormed bloggers…. nah, I’ll stop there.
Despite the possibility and plausibilities of physics, which you may have noticed do not play a part in this strip (otherwise Pib would have a huge chest expanse to be able to fly with such grace on those very delicate wings), agree with UncaAlby that Geoff had really not intent on going in. I do not think Luciano and Geoff actually collided, otherwise Luc would have gone in with them. Just being close to the portal will suck a body in, just as Dru was drawn into to merge with Pib when she discovered her.
Luc may still be going in. I am curious about Dru and Satori at this point.
Still think Inky will keep Dru tied as she is the power source…. previous comment from yesterday.
Frida Bonita said, about 1 year ago
On the whole physics debate and also the oh so eloquent soliloquy by Skulker; what a great group of minds. Yes, it is a cartoon. A cartoon that is a creative work that lends itself to debate and conversation on many levels.
“Pibgorn” is an art form and BMc is a master which we often comment on. Form, color and function.
The story line is obviously captivating or none of us would be here speculating and analyzing every little nuance.
There is room for all and I enjoy the banter, humor and extraneous topics.
