OMG, it’s Dagwood and the postman…Roger/Lena coming out, Geoff/Pib going in…WHAM!!!

    Dang, Roger sure dresses fast.

Yeah, that would be funny for sure, but I have one question - have we ever seen a portal out of the game? Does Roger know where one is?

  3. Trail_Blazer

Trail_Blazer said, about 1 year ago

    Those were two questions… ;)

Don’t know on both counts, but there is at least the one that Inky used. Inky found it, so Roger could too.

    .
And it seems pretty obvious that Igor is likely to bethis week’s antique gun, i suspect.

(If you don’t get that, google “Chekhov’s gun”.)

Roger originally banded with Dru and Satori, and went to the castle with the scimitar intending to slay the queen, thinking that this was the way out of the game.

Now, in a relatively short amount of time, he has abandoned Dru & Satori, is trying to save the queen, and somehow knows where the portal is to get out.

What does he know that we don’t, and how did he figure it out so quickly?

  6. DarkJediDarbold

DarkJediDarbold said, about 1 year ago

    And another thing…

Is Geoff blind, stupid, or is he just clumsy, to walk blindly into the portal?

I suppose that it would be pretty distracting to see a giant fly jumping all over Inky’s face, but come on, watch where you’re going!

  7. txmystic

txmysticGenius_badge said, about 1 year ago

Roger must know where the exit is, what is not clear is how he figured it out.

Don’t be too harsh on Geoff, either, that’s his true love he’s holding, so of course she will dominate his attention. He has no idea the portal spits out anything but the occasional incubus.

  8. Mikkail

MikkailGenius_badge said, about 1 year ago

Ok, so I got it that Geoff was going to grab Pib & get out of there, but not heading into the game universe. Will inky follow them (assuming Luciano lets him? - I’m picking Luciano will flee once Pib is “safe”…)
On another tack, Igor doesn’t look like he’s had seventeen years of attention - anyone else remember “The Velveteen Rabbit”?

  9. Gweedo Murray

Hmmm… Seventeen years of attention or attrition ? Bear looks pretty fresh and check out the gams !

    .
Methinks he’s not necessarily walking anywhere in particular. He’s more-or-less just standing there, with some forward momentum, distracted by his Lady Love, and totally clueless as to the mystical magical portalness before him.

Last time I got everything completely wrong. Nevermind, here goes:

As has been noted, a “Suzerain” is an overlord while “Satori” means “enlightenment” - a sort of cluebot? Also. When Roger snaffled that copy of the software, perhaps he RTFM? His current actions seem to be informed by more than just the events in game Perhaps Igor is just an indicator of Lenas real mind-state, stripped of the glamour of the game. I’ve a feeling that otherwise he’d become another creature.

Then there’s Dru and Satori. Dru is out of it and can’t influence events. At least Satori doesn’t have the scimitar, so she can’t harm Dru (well not that significantly). Given the amount of energy Inky required to liberate Pib, perhaps there’s an imperative to get Dru out of the game THROUGH the portal before unlinking her from the frame - she must be the only thing keeping the game running at this point. Releasing her now would trap her within the game.

    So:

Roger has realised through his in-game experience and cursory view of the manual that he must become Suzerain to rescue everybody, and that can only be achieved by controlling events from outside. The players in the game are just pawns. He may have remembered where the access points are located too. Geoff and Pib may be deflected from the portal by a charging Roger and Lena emerging post haste. On the other hand, Geoff and Pib may have to enter the game to bring Dru back before the power fails.

God knows what Luciano will have done to Inky while our attention is on the others! Perhaps HE can be put in the frame to power the game while Geoff and Pib rescue Dru?

Of course, that could all be a pile of dingos kidneys.

I wonder what the hell is actually going on?

    grin

Not obvious what he knows, but finding out about how the game resets and that his sister is the Queen (and has spent subjective years in the game) has certainly given him a lot of extra information to go on …

I’m thinking that the door Geoff & Luciano came in is likely in Inky’s line of sight (and seriously, how long can a giant housefly hold off a demon? He got away with it for a few seconds from surprise, but he’s dealt with Dru in similar circumstances in the past & he and Geoff both know how long they’ve got - that *is* how Geoff lost his cottage), that leaves the only other exit that Geoff knows goes somewhere - he knows the “monitor” is a gate because he saw Inky come out of it (not a great recommendation, but any port in a storm) ^_^

I still want to know – where is Spitcock?!

  21. zorchon

zorchon said, about 1 year ago

Huh? Roger even got his shoes back? I would think Lena could have taken the chance to get dressed too, (but then we wouldn’t get to see her Gams.)
As for Geoff, I think it’s a pretty clear tactic: If Inky gets away from L. and is still bent on the destruction of Pib, where will he expect them to have fled? AWAY. So Inky’s going to go out into the ally. “No one” would hide where their enemy just came from. (Reminds me of Calvin hiding at Bath time… in the bathtub.)

  22. macFicheallaigh

macFicheallaigh said, about 1 year ago

I think we’re going to have a three way clash. Roger and Lena run into Geoff and Pibgorn, all at the same time that Inky shakes off Luciano, sees Pib is gone and cuts Dru loose.

Now that’s a thought – would dismantling the portal cause a backlash of the magical energy that’s been coursing through it?

  23. zorchon

zorchon said, about 1 year ago

Oh, a thought about D. Spitcock, (Whom I don’t believe is Inky,) Way back on Nov 11th when he got “Zonked” by Dru he pixilated. Same as Pib did (long long ago.) So my theory is that Spitcock has worked out a computer (digital) method to transport people into Suzerain (which its self is a magical world. It existed before spitcock, and he’s just found ways of manipulating parts of it through programming.)
Now just before Dru lets loose with the plasma, Spitcock’s hand is just inside the door, where we suppose a computer is. So I think he was pressing “Enter” for himself, and getting sent into the game. (It was just a couple cucumber sandwitches in his pocket that got turned to a pile of ash.)
This is how he was able to come back and surprise Dru (From the Portal-Screen in the next room.)

As for the old question “why does Spitcock want Magical-Energy?” My theory is that, (let me make something up…)

  25. zorchon

zorchon said, about 1 year ago

OK, because Suzerain is actually something of a Fairy Realm, Spitcock has limitations on what he can do there. He can send people in, and bring them back out. But to change things there, he needs Magic as well as technology.
His dream is to make a marketable Über-Realität. Right now too many things are missing in Suzerain, but with a continual flow of magic, he’ll have the power to fix up the clam-shack into a splendid resort-world. (He only had enough magic to bring the queen’s castle into existence once Dru had discharged a fair amount of energy.)

My first post here, & glad to be part of the conversation…

Concerning Roger’s knowledge of the portal - Roger is a gamer, as in video gamer, as am I. They are living in a video game, as this moment, a la Tron. Roger has simply had an epiphany concerning the game, as will happen after hours of playing…the end game becomes crystal clear and you simply know what you must do to finish.

Knowing is one thing, however, and doing it is another!

  29. Orgelspieler

Orgelspieler said, about 1 year ago

Trail_Blazer, when you’re 15 you do EVERYTHING fast.

And give Geoff some credit… he saw Pib/Dru hooked up as a power source in a room full of monitors, he saw Inky come out of the big-screen monitor, and he’s been living around demons and fairies for a considerable time now. He might not “KNOW” what’s going to happen if he walks into the monitor, but he undoubtedly prefers the unknown with Pib to the known with Inky. Don’t ya think so?

Oh and, BTW, check out Brooke’s blog this morning… fascinating insight into his technical process, re: color vs. b&w!

Anyol'tomcatGenius_badge said, about 1 year ago

So will this be a mashup of themes from The Fly with Two Gentlemen of Verona? Lena fell in the monitor while fighting with her brother and now Geoff is just as distracted. A collision seems inevitable. Will Geoff’s combine with Lena’s personality and Pib’s with R.’s? Whose would be dominant? Could Roger and Pib pool ideas and figure out how to end the game and defeat Spitcock’s Evil Ends?

    .
Judging from what she was wearing earlier, this is probably about the most “dressed” as she ever gets.
    .
Besides, she’s supposed to have been there for 17 years, and grown up from the age of 8. Given that there probably aren’t many Macy’s or Nordstrom’s in the neighborhood, what else could she wear?
    .
Ah, but then where’d she get the robe … ?

Decided I needed to thank CCDESAN. Went back thru the PIB archives before the restrictor was put in place. Now I can go way back (28 SEP 1998) with 9CWL. Thanks for the link to the Houston Chronicle you posted on FRI

CCDESAN also has a website that is a wonderful resource for Pibbers. He has a complete synopsis of Pibgorn since the first strip with a commentary on the characters, story lines and our esteemed artist. It is a must reading for everyone. [Thanks CCDESAN] He posted the URL here a few months ago but, unfortunately, I can’t find it. Perhaps he would be kind enough to post it again. This is one of those times that there should be a permanent link on each day’s page to his site.

Thanks. It was a very deliberate choice on a number of levels.

I must presume you are as heartbroken as I that T.K. decided to end “Tumbleweeds” last year. A day without Weeds is like … night.

Yes, presume right. It was one of my favorites - right up there with 9CWL. I still remember the feeling of dread and foreboding when I first read the 12-29-07 strip and Tumbleweed said “Sunset seems like a good time to end it. So adios.” At the time, I had no idea that T.K.Ryan was ending the strip but the words were so ominous it hit me like losing a friend. Sadly, that is just what happened. I guess that we can just be grateful for the time we had together.

My archives only go back to 2001. By any chance do yours go back further?

Yes, I have it. I archive them from comics.com. The Houston Chronicle strips are a bit larger but seem to be of lower quality. compare the two and if you want the comics.com strip give me a yell.

What other strips do you archive?

    Based on what rationale, exactly?

I don’t see anything in particular that would indicate one way or the other*
    .
The rationale would be that it follows the action. It wouldn’t make sense for Geoff to start to pick up Pib, leave her and then go look at Luciano on Inky.

I’m not sure that Roger’s figured a way out, only that killing his sister isn’t the key. In fact, he may have decided the game is set up to trick him into doing just that. I think he’s just trying to get clear of Satori until he can figure out a solution or perhaps get back to the spot where they first entered the game and look for a portal there.

Bonus question: Since killing Satori reunites her with her scimitar, will she invite Dru to indulge herself in the interests of expediency?
