Oh, i like the positioning of Roger’s leg.
BTW - be sure to check out the new “9 Chickweed Lane”, too.

Big mistake not cleaving Lena first…now Satori’s gonna get fried and the game will reset once more.
Or…
Roger will get between the girls and he’ll simultaneously get sliced AND fried.
Or…??
Rachel Martin said, about 1 year ago
I think Roger will probably get in between the girls, but I don’t think that he will get sliced and diced. I think we are starting to reach an ending and they will all work together to get free, or as together as they can.
Edda’s face was great on the fourth picture.

I’m really curious as to how this is going to come out. Satori’s a digital creation, I don’t think she can “escape” the game to be Roger’s sweetie in real life. Nat Bustard ended up as a reformed demon with a place of residence in a copse of trees in fairyland… perhaps a place can be found for Satori as well?
Interesting - rather than being mortified by having the object of his affection see him in his birthday suit, he remains totally on-task.

Most people do one of two things in a life or death situation: get very ontask,so to speak, the flood of adrenaline allowing some very dispassionate thinking in the middle of some really dangerous events, or they just freak out or freeze up. It’s all in what they’ve trained themselves to do or been trained to do. Like Columbine versus Thurston. At Columbine, they had been trained to just sit there and so did nothing, even while they two reloaded. At Thurston, a mass of students tackled the student and beat the snot out of him, preventing many deaths.

Or, they run like h– eh – your local theological place of eternal punishment –
.
It’s all in what they’ve trained themselves to do or been trained to do.
.
Even then, sometimes, they run like h—. A friend of mine once explained it to me succinctly – people are trained to handle expected situations. When the unexpected happens, people are not trained for it, by definition. Then there is no predicting what people will do.

Sometimes the hero in battle is the guy who panicked and had every intention to run away, but got his directions wrong!

Well, one thing is for certain … the queen is definitely not going to be “cleaved” any time soon, if for no other reason than Satori is spending so much time explaining what she’s gonna do next!
.
You know that never works!
.
Remember the Austin Powers movies, with Dr. Evil’s son? “What are you waiting for? Just shoot him already! If you want, give me a gun and I’ll shoot him!”

another recognisable reference!
Oh, this is getting good!

Just to coarsen the tone…
fairportfan: Roger has probably had his legs crossed ever since he realised who the Queen was. Also, you notice that boynips are absent too?

Yeah…Roger is just a wee bit androgonous. The shag haircut adds to the effect.

In Klamath Falls some years ago, there was an auto repair shop called “Hassan’s”. Needless to say, we just had to call it the “Chop Shop”, after the WB cartoon when Hassan was trying to chop Daffy and Bugs…
TheWildSow said, about 1 year ago
Arcaton – It was “A hero who sneezed….etc.”
But yeah, you’re right!

Anyone else notice no one in this ‘toon has nipples?
Satori better focus on her real target before she gets her pants filled with plasma!

UncaAlby: Just know, I have a whole bag of “SHH!” with your name on it!
Thank goodness Roger lifted his leg just at that point of his struggle.
And if Lena wanted to fry Satori, she had plenty of time to act while Satori was slicing the chains…kcboomer nailed it yesterday with Tuco’s quote from “the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly”.

Bucky Katt called it on yesterday’s board, and the first thing has come to pass…perhaps Roger is about to yoink the sword as we speak and Satori will be the one who is struck down.
That would certainly put to rest any concern about whether or not she can exist outside the game.
MermaidStitcher said, about 1 year ago
Just a thought here. Satori is digital. right? or is she?? she could be sucked in to before everyone else. she might be the hair fairy what happened to her for certain. like I said just a thought just a random thought that got out.
maeverin said, about 1 year ago
i think after everything, Roger still knows this is just a computer game, so it is not so much a question of being brave in the face of danger, but keeping your head on and reality checked.
great shadowing on Roger. he’s a very…smooth boy…isn’t he;p i agree that he will step inbetween the girls. otherwise, he could have just waited for Satori to do her thing and then be cut down.
Gweedo Murray said, about 1 year ago
The Queen looks panicky. The right hand in panel four.
r80 said, about 1 year ago
Gweedo, you’re right! Even her fingernails disappeared! Maybe that explains the absence of nipples as well. Good observation, Goomba.

Excuse me…but in yesterday’s strip, Dru was in the room.
I-I-I-I-I don’t think she’s just gonna STAND there, if Roger tries to get between Satori and Lena…or if Satori decides to get chatty, for that matter.
Come to think of it, why isn’t Dru already going ballistic?
“You dumb cow, forget about him, and get the QUEEN!!”
Bucky Katt

The reason I think Satori may get skewered is we don’t know who the Suzerain is - if it’s Spitcock, and Lena is somehow blocking him from fully controlling the game, Satori could end up on the losing team.
So, will Roger grab the sword …or will the others get distracted when they notice he’s getting really excited watching this?
macFicheallaigh said, about 1 year ago
If Satori really is a digital creation of the game (and we only have Roger’s word on this) does completing the game by killing the queen also amount to killing suicide? If the queen is killed and the game is over, does that mean Satori is over also?
We still don’t know how Lena got sucked into the persona of the queen. I’m assuming that the queen role existed as part of the game as created by Spitcock, but Lena was an unexpected intrusion into the game. How did she take the queen’s place, if that’s what she did?
maeverin said, about 1 year ago
nah, Dru wouldn’t go ballistic. it isn’t sexy.

The last time Dru blasted the queen the game reset. I don’t think she’ll try that again, but that wouldn’t stop her from wielding the sword.
I’ve lost count of how many times Satori has been killed. But she keeps coming back.
If the queen has more (time distorted) experience in the game is she more powerful because of it?

I’m not sure Dru knows what’s going on in the lab. She picked up Geoff because she has a special link with him. As she does with Pib.

Wow, it’s great to see Edda laugh like that! I hope this will ease some of the tension between her and Amos.

elfinelvin - I doubt Dru knows what’s going on in the lab, but some things apparently get through, like loud noises in a dream.
Orgelspieler said, about 1 year ago
For the first time (I think), the sword also now shows a blood groove.
Re: fingernails… hadn’t you noticed that for both Dru and the Queen, the “mandarin claws” can be turned on or off at will? Wonder if this, and their mutual love of plasma as an offensive weapon, implies a familial relationship?

Nice artwork, as usual - but I think I liked it better when Lena was the naked one.
Pokefan_Frank said, about 1 year ago
I get a feeling that Roger won’t be able to jump in between the girls now, just because that’s what everybody said would happen. Something (probably Dru) will stop him or he will think twice about it.
Lena probably became the Queen because she managed to kill the original Queen, at some point during those supposed 17 years. And the game, rather than rewarding her with a “The End”, made her Queen. If that’s the case, killing the queen may not be the way out of the game.
Oh, and Satori hasn’t been killed by her own blade yet, has she? It’s always been Dru’s doing.
Aribeth de Tylmarande said, about 1 year ago
You know, I haven’t got the foggiest idea where Brooke is going with this, but I do know that 1) I am going to buy the book, if and when, and 2) has anybody noticed that this is the busiest (not of speak of most intelligent) series of comments on ANY strip?
elfinelvin
said,
Pokefan_Frank - The only time she was killed by something other than Dru was back near the beginning when she and Pib were both impaled by the tree branch. She’s never been killed by her own sword.
Hugh B. Hayve said, about 1 year ago
Of course it’s intelligent Aribeth, most of the wordplay humor in this strip requires one to think. Those who get it REALLY get it. I’m sure most of the fans of Brooke’s comics do have a bit of brain power going for them. Also to mention the maturity factor as in the adult themes some of the stories have been based on like Shakespeare, Mozart and Humphrey Bogart films. No kids hang out here!
AliKzam said, about 1 year ago
Very interesting stuff, both the comic and the comments. I’m also wondering if Satori is real. Maybe she’s just as real as Inky, and she’s been in the game so long she can’t remember what the real world is like? Also, in reguards to Lena: let’s just suppose for a moment that she comes out of this game all right. Do you think she’ll come back into the real world as a little girl or as a woman?

I think the plasma that Lena can manage only affects Dru. Remember she couldn’t zonk Pib with any affect, and got decked for the trying?
Hugh B. Hayve said, about 1 year ago
One thing to remember, if this is part of the game, then the Queen is a boss. Any gamer knows, a boss doesn’t fall so easily. If Roger does get between them, he’s naked and there is a sword…can you say Bobbit-ized!
