    Why did the unicorn not come? Does she despise the girl?

    @Faraz masroor

    Of course she doesn’t despise the girl. What sense would that make? Maybe Marigold doesn’t like being ogled by people.

    Phoebe needs to grow up and be a bit more mature here. I would highly recommend that she follow the example of Voltaire.

    ( Whenever Voltaire was losing at chess, he’d turn the board over and go on a rant: “Imagine wasting two hours moving little bits of wood to and fro; one could have written an act of tragedy in the time!” )

    I know, right? Nine syllables!
    I was very proud of my ability to spell and use big words at her age.

    I too, had a large vocabulary at a young age. The other kids would tell me, “Quit talkin’ all smart and usin’ them big ol’ words.” Years later it dawned on me that it was only the stupid kids telling me to “Quit talkin’ all smart.”

    Dana, I just want to say – this strip is absolutely wonderful. It’s a breath of fresh air and boasts a funny and imaginative twist on unicorns while preserving the unicorn “mystique”. I congratulate you on its conception, and I fully expect it to become a huge hit. And oh, forget the comparisons some are making to “Calvin and Hobbes” and what have you. Children who have magical or imaginary companions is a concept that’s been around for eons. It’s nice to see a new and funny version of it in the otherwise-staid and stale syndicated strip form. Count me as a faithful reader. Kudos!

    I really like Marigold’s look overall; especially her mane and the hair around her feet!

    I also had a large vocabulary when I was young. Spelling was not my forte but I waas reading adult novels by 3rd grade. If I happened upon a word I didn’t know, I broke out the good old dictionary. Were you also an avid reader?
