I remember my 5th grade teacher reminded us we wouldn’t be allowed inside early unless it was -5 or colder because “this is Minnesota, you better get used to the cold.”

Last Saturday, Garrison Keillor said he was shocked that they closed the schools in Minnessota. When he was a lad, he said, he had to go to school when it was MUCH colder. (He didn’t say if he had to go barefoot.)

When i was a kid i had the good fortune to go to a school that was about 600ft above the city (which was in a valley, one might call it a gorge). So in winter the buses had NO CHANCE to get up there after even a little snow. I had A LOT of snow days :-)
