Pig: What are you doing, Rat?
Rat: Waiting for punxsutawinely Phil... If he comes out of his hole and sees his shadow, there are six more weeks of winter. But if he comes out and sees no shadow, it will be an early spring. That doesn't bode well.
I am so tired of “if the groundhog sees his shadow it means six more weeks of winter.” Exactly when did it stop being ""if the groundhog sees his shadow it means six more weeks of winter WEATHER." Believe some time in the mid to late ‘90s. Got news folks, It’s always about six weeks left to winter whether or not the groundhog, or any creature touted as predicting the end of winter, sees it’s shadow or not. But it used to be that we were told we could expect spring-like weather early if the groundhog didn’t see it’s shadow. Which is kinda a real shocker with all the camera lights making it impossible for Phil to not see his shadow.
Besides which, the weather will be what it will be weather a groundhog like Phil or Wiarton Willie, or Balzac Billy, or Staten Island Chuck, or any one of a thousand different groundhogs see their shadow or not.
