At its heart, Pearls Before Swine is the comic strip tale of two friends: an arrogant Rat who thinks he knows it all and a slow-witted Pig who doesn't know any better. Together, this pair offers caustic commentary on humanity's quest for the unattainable. Dilbert cartoonist Scott Adams says that Pearls is "one of the few comics that make me laugh out loud." The strip has twice won the National Cartoonists Society's Reuben division award for Best Newspaper Comic Strip – in 2003 and in 2006.

Goat knew it was too good to be true.

It’s the thought that counts (not that Rat put much thought into it).

More cartoon physics: there’s no way Goat could get that hat on over his horns.

Have you no imagination… it’s obviously in two halves and velcroed together.

Rat has a real gift for giving.

The imperial Rat simply does not understand the ingratitude of hoi polloi towards his magnificent benevolence.
Yeah. That’s it.

In NYC I used to get my coffee for a nickel at the Automat. I don’t remember refills.

Gutsy usage of the word “ingrate”. I avoid it because it’s too close to “ingratiate”.
