Once again, Rat lives up/or down, to his name.

It’s worth it to get as far away from Rat as you can.

Voltaire had students sign a contract that they wouldn’t commit suicide when they took his classes. Rat should do the same.

Rat’s fiendish plot worked….now HE can snag the manager’s job. Then he’ll be in a position to berate (be-Rat?) not just customers but the other employees.

My first full-time job was at one of the world’s largest oil companies. I was not sure if I wanted to stay at one place all my life. One day, the paymaster had a heart attack, a month before he was to retire. He had worked there thirty-five years, I tendered my resignation two days later. I now run my own business – but that took a while.

You hit the nail on the head….
And to think that my grandparents and parents used to call the comics ‘the jokes’ and ‘the funnies’

True. It’s out of character for Rat to tell it straight, without the extra twist of the knife, but a working career can be like that.

I’ll tell you what worked for me, though. I never thought of myself as having a “career” — I simply had a job. I went to work each day, I did my best at it (because anything else would have been cheating myself out of what satisfaction there was in it), and I had as much fun doing it as circumstances allowed in any given moment. And then, 42 years later, I retired.

I got recognition and advancement, and that was nice and well appreciated, but I never planned it, or chased after it. No doubt I could have gone further (whatever that means), but I did good and I did well, and I retired a happy man. How many corporate salarymen could say the same?

Rat has a few good points there.
