    Ah, being a small child in the sixties. Teachers were powerful beings who could destroy you with a look. Particularly in a small town. No need to take a note home, they’d call your mom and dad before you got back from school and tell all. Remember it well.

    re: orinoco

    even in the late 70s when I was in grade school, teachers were still respected and acted in a fashion worthy of respect. (Wasn’t ’till I got to junior high that they started teaching things beneath the honor of their profession.)

    Re: orinoco
    I remember being in school in the 60s as well, but my experience was clearly different. Teachers definitely sent notes home, though when the fifth grader got caught selling pot, there was at least one phone call made. Loved those innocent 60s and 70s. Meanwhile at my son’s high school, they had one little fight, and it made local news. Go figure.

    Must be a yellow crayon – she got it all over the two of them. No hiding the evidence now!

    @cdward

    At that time the small rural town I lived in had a population of under 8 thousand. Everyone knew everyone else and most of their business. Kids didn’t get away with much because there was always some kind soul who would call your mom and rat you out before you even got home. We didn’t know we were being watched, but we sure learned fast!!

    They don’t allow crayons anymore because someone could sharpen one into a shiv.
