Of course, if you REALLY beaned him, he wouldn’t be able to get up, much less pound you… ah, Catch 22.

    Fortunately, beanballs are illegal anyway.

.without intent or forethought, bean balls are legal. That’s the way a stupid law works.

Well, the batter seems to know how to throw Charlie Brown off his game.

Before Schroeder walked back to the plate — before he was even done talking — that’s when Charlie Brown should have fast-ball beaned the kid! (Rude, little punk! No one threatens my Chuck.)

I have always wondered…what IS a “beanball”? I don’t like baseball so I don’t know much beyond four bases and “home run”.

a beanball is where you hit the batter on purpose

A Beanball is when a pitcher intentionally throws at the batter … usually at his head. It is done at higher levels of baseball, and is used for various reasons. It could be to send a message to a hitter who crowds the plate. It also could be used in retaliation for the other team’s pitcher “accidentally” hitting a batter on the beanball pitcher’s team. Probably more than you wanted to know ..

And not only does the batter get a free base, but the pitcher is usually ejected. One famous exception (and I think I may be biased here) is when Nolan Ryan of the Texas Rangers beaned Robin Ventura of the Chicago White Sox, after which Ventura charged the mound and proceeded to “wail on [Ryan’s] fist with his face” (a famous line from the Bobby Allison-Cale Yarborough fight at the end of the 1979 Daytona 500), and Ventura, not Ryan, was the one ejected.

To be “beaned” with anything is to be struck in the head. The head was called the “bean” in 19th century slang.
