I before E except after C, Charlie Brown — unless it’s pronounced as in “eight,” “weigh,” and “neighbor” (exception to the exception: “weird”).

Forget about it, Charlie Brown. You’re not going to win anything if you can’t remember a simple little rule like that.

If I were you, Charlie Brown, I’d worry more about how a certain word ends in l-e and not e-l.

Don’t worry about that rule CB; the word you’ll get is one to which that rule doesn’t apply — but you’ll foul it up royally anyway!

It’s I before E except after dinner, or when pronounced as A on Thursday (but not any other day of the week).

Actually, I never liked that rule since there are way too many exceptions. A lot of sources say that that rule isn’t worth teaching.

Charlie Brown, Stop fretting and making yourself confused. You can do it!

For those who bash the “I before E except after C” rule, keep in mind that that rule is chiefly for if you’re trying to spell common verbs, like receive, believe, retrieve, conceive, deceive (and their derivatives: receipt, belief), etc. I know the rule does not apply to all words in the entire dictionary!
