If ever there is an iconic comic strip, it is Peanuts. What began in the funny pages in 1950 has developed into an enduring classic. Whether you're persnickety like Lucy, a philosopher like Linus, a joyous Flying Ace like Snoopy, or a lovable underdog like Charlie Brown, there is something to touch your heart or make you laugh in Peanuts.

Not unless you don’t have any use for money either.

re: iomyaom
Indian tribes used to trade items for beads made of stone, bone, antlers, minerals like turquois, etc.

Celilo Falls (where the Pacific Intertie’s Terminal is, 130 miles from where I’m sitting) was a pre-columbian slave trading center. One wonders what they thought was the value of a human life.

funny… Charlie Brown, didn’t think you had that sense of humor or were a bit like Lucy, I should say…

One wonders if they thought of the slaves as human. Oh, that’s right…they didn’t.

Actually, it seems that only in the trade and use of black slaves by Europeans was it thought that the slave was less than human. As with the native Americans, Romans and others, Europeans using other Europeans as slaves (in the Middle Ages for instance) it was more of a weak over strong or rich over poor issue. Many Europeans thought native Americans were less than human too of course… but isn’t this a Peanuts cartoon?

@saywhatwhat
Who said anything about “black” slaves? Slaves have been bought and sold all over the world. Even Native Americans were known to take prisoners in battle between tribes and treat them as slaves. Then of course there’s the history of the Spanish in the New Word.

Every door-to-door salesman gets a lot of doors slammed in his face. Funny, saleswomen don’t seem to have that problem. They’re told to go away infinitely more graciously.
