Snoopy sits atop his doghouse with a sheet of paper in his paw. He thinks,"November eleventh."<BR><BR> He reads the sheet and thinks,"Today is Veterans Day!"<BR><BR> He jumps down and thinks,"Every Veterans Day I go over to Bill Mauldin's house to quaff a few root beers."<BR><BR> He walks along wearing a private's cap on his head. He thinks,"He tells me about the trouble he had with Patton, and I tell him about the funny thing that happened between Pershing and me..."<BR><BR> He stops and looks questioningly at Woodstock and a friend who are both wearing army hats.<BR><BR> He watches them go and thinks,"Hey, wait a minute! Who are you guys supposed to be?" Woodstock chirps an answer.<BR><BR> Snoopy thinks,"Willie and Joe?!"<BR><BR>
Bill Maudlin was a cartoonist during World War II for Stars and Stripes. His best known characters were a couple of infantrymen named Willie and Joe.
