The next panel would have Lucy complaining about “dog germs”.

“A dark-haired lass…and quite a beauty, too!” Snoopy must be really deep into his WWI Flying Ace routine to say that about Lucy…

“A dark haired lass, and quite a beauty, too!” I can’t help but remember that episode of Upstairs, Downstairs, where James’ parents went to pick him up at the hospital, and Georgina (the dark haired beauty who was a nurse) watched them while the WWI guns were heard in France across the English Channel….

Unless I miss my guess, the strips following this one should be the “Thompson is in trouble” series, one of my all-time favourite story arcs.

Well, either that or a week of one-offs including “Woodstock throws boring parties” or “I hate playing ‘bat’” … I can’t seem to find my copy of “That’s Life, Snoopy”. But I’m pretty sure it’s the Thompson arc next. Can’t wait!

Snoopy later will think that Marcie is a dark-haired beauty. Well, she does have dark hair……..I just read a short biography of The Red Baron recently. Red shot down 80 planes, and his brother (The Ecru Earl?) shot down 40 himself. Wonder what Snoopy’s score is…….

creating your own ‘reality’ is the reason Snoopy is the sanest one of the gang.

That would be Freiherr Lothar von Richtoffen. Freiherr is generally translated as “Baron” but it’s a bit misleading, since in all male members of the family granted Freiherr (literally "Free Lord) status were designated as Freiherr even when the head of the family was still alive. Manfred and Lothar’s cousin Wolfram (who would later be a Luftwaffe Field Marshall and was one of the leading advocates of the Stuka diver bomber) was also Freiherr von Richtoffen on the one mission he flew with his cousin Manfred. Lothar von Richtoffen survived the war but died in 1922 while flying a commecial mail run from Berlin to Hamburg.

The next day, Snoopy the WWI Flying Ace became very ill.

Lucy’s mouth is probably more polluted than a river.
