Pretty sure the mushy statement is right. Violet wouldn’t have the “?” exclamation if it was just that she was impressed.
To a 5 year old kid, being called mushy is bad. (especially in the 50s).

I get it, Charlie is saying MUSH, as calling Shermy mushy cuz he likes Violet. But CB doesn’t know that, cuz he was talking to Snoopy
