“The Last Starfighter”, 1984. The film tells the story of Alex Rogan (Lance Guest), an avid arcade-game player, recruited by an alien defense force to fight in an interstellar war, after becoming the game’s highest-scoring player.

This is actually not far from reality. The Air Force says traditional pilots make poor drone pilots because they have too much irrelevant training to unlearn. A drone flight simulator on the ground is really indistinguishable from a drone flight control center.

Pardon me for my memory, but didn’t Mort Walker do this in Beetle Bailey with pin-balls about the time of the Korean police action?

The AF have set up such places to teach and test possible recruits. The local parents don’t like it though.

War, it was a war just like Vietnam/Cambodia/Laos. “Police Action” is a euphemism.

I agree. Police action is when someone is arrested.
