"I think cartoonists should be like burrs under the saddle of some egomaniac, kind of gnawing away every day," says two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Paul Szep. "I think the public likes cartoons because it gives them a vicarious pleasure that they normally can't get in any other way."

Did Mr. Ima used to be Ima? No more androgynous confusion on the name?
Peter King, R of NY, seemed to be willing to punch Mr. Norquist after Norquist compared fealty to the tax pledge to the fealty expected in a marriage. Not a good analogy when one considers the number of philandering legislators we know about.
In a Life Magazine picture from the 1950’s, there are chairs in the halls of congress where citizens like you and me are sitting and waiting to talk to their representatives. Unless a person has a tv camera crew following them, the only way to get that kind of access is to be a donor to the campaign.
Lobbyists, as a definition, came from the tendency of supplicants to wait in the lobby of the hotel where President Grant would go for drinks. As he walked out of the bar, the ‘lobbyists’ would approach him.
A lobbyist can be a very good thing. A group that is educated and informed on a specific issue and able to present objective pros and cons on that issue along with logic based reasoning on why “their” slant on the issue is correct.
A lobbyist is a bad thing when they present financial rewards for political stances on issues that are NOT in the best interest of the country tho they may have some short term benefit to the legislator and/or his/her district.
We need legislators who will listen to the people instead of people’s wallets.
Respectfully,
& Happy Holidayze.

The worm has turned & the GOP rats are running for cover. After we go over the fiscal cliff the Democrats will offer a tax cut for everyone but the top 2 pct. The Republicans can then support it without violating their stupid tax pledge of not raising taxes.

Throw Grover over the cliff.

I liked the ‘Rocky’ movies.
An interview was done with Mr. T about his name.
.
Changing his first name to “Mr.” forced what is considered a sign of respect to be spoken. He could then pretend it referred to him personally.
.
I thought explaining it in an interview destroyed the effect, but coming up with the silly name change made him proud.
.
My high school sweethaeart was Ima, similar politics also so I have never been sure this is not her.

What? And who do you think will hand out the lobbyists contribution to their reelection?

“Grover isn’t out of the picture yet……”
-
Yeah, I’ll believe it when I see the actual stake through his heart. Lest anyone protest that that’s a bad analogy, I’d remind them that Grover’s financing will die if sunshine falls upon it.
-
One other problem is that even if Grover is vanquished, Koch industries will send a replacement — although it may take a while to rebuild that amount of power.
-
Also — the discussion of lobbyists reminds me that Boehner was the one who handed out lobbyists’ checks to Republicans on the House floor. Boehner apologized for it and said he was truly sorry he had done it.
-
Of course, he was sorry only that he was caught doing it on the House floor. If he had waited until they were in the actual lobby, that would have been perfectly acceptable to him.

Uh, did she later develop transgender issues?

Wait, Grover Norquist used to be AlGore? Or Al Gore? Or allegory?….What?
Uncle Joe said, 6 months ago
Grover still has hundreds of millions to throw at any Republican who bucks the “pledge”. Norquist will back more zany “Tea-publicans” who will lose what was otherwise a safe Republican seat.
One more reason why the GOP is doomed…

Yes, Ima informed us on a page elsewhere that she is a woman who married and then divorced another woman (not that there’s anything wrong with that). We suspect the recent addition of “Mr.” is part of her transgender therapy.
