The corruption by corporate and oligarch money is influencing our elections, no matter how much the right wing and their media (Murdoch’s empire, Rushbo, Beck, et al) deny it. The only push-back is from Union donations, and that’s why Republican-controlled states are doing what they can to attack unions (besides their zeal for tax cuts for the wealthy, anti-abortion, and vote suppression bills).
They are entrenching themselves with legislation, and are protected from scrutiny by Murdoch-style press and a cadre of lawyers attacking those who oppose them – all being fed from infusions of massive amounts of money from undisclosed donors.
And some of the right wing commenters, blinded by hatred (of Obama, of “liberals”, of “takers” – you name it) on these pages have no idea how much they are facilitating that takeover by the oligarchs.

Most of us find it blatantly obvious exactly how wbr is disparaging Mr Oliphant.

Since the Koch brothers know much better than the unwashed rabble, I’m hoping they’ll fix the election so it’s just their two votes.

But then what happens if they disagree?

I am neither blue, nor red, so I don’t have a dog in this fight, but I would point out that there is a huge amount of money on the left, too. Soros has found plenty of ways to “invest” in elections. During the recall elections in Colorado, Bloomberg (he is more left than right) and his cronies outspent the right by more than 6 to 1 – yet it didn’t help them win.

Both sides spend money on their favorite causes, and given that it doesn’t always help them win, I’d say that the electorate understands this well.

No, this is not really the case. Both sides spend money, this is true. But the GOP has the advantage of a gigantic, organized propaganda machine working for it called FoxNews, which consistently pumps out shameless propaganda and misleading or actively false information on behalf of a political agenda. The left has nothing comparable, and certainly nothing with comparable ratings or dominance of broadcast areas. And given that FoxNews watchers are the least well-informed Americans, this insulates them from making thoughtful decisions.
Furthermore, it was the GOP that first mobilized corporate monies on their behalf, and they’re still ahead of the Democrats on that score — not that that is a good thing; in practice both sides are controlled by big business. That’s why the GOP hated Clinton so much — he took their best funding trick!

The DNC has hundreds of millions from the unions, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, George Soros, all of those in the network “news” bnusiness, most of those in the entertainment indstry yet they cry like little babies over the Koch Brothers.

Soros has found plenty of ways to “invest” in elections
And he’s been straightforward about it, isn’t he? And who is demonizing him? FOX News and the right wing media. Koch, Inc., spreads their money secretly amongst various PACs and organizations so it is difficult to trace back to them. And there are far more right-wing billionaires and corporate entities (and foreigners) funneling the money in.
And who told you to demonize Soros? FOX?

Are you an American? You have a dog in this fight. Arguing that the parties are equivalent is specious. The only thing that would support it is that too many Democrats act like Republicans (including Obama), which can lead you to think that, but Elizabeth Warren is worlds apart from Darrell Issa. that’s the comparison you should make, not Obama vs. Boehner or some such nonsense.

I think it’s a reference to the fact that you can smoke weed here legally. Not that it makes me proud. It’s silly, except that it keeps a lot of people out jail and thus causes less heartache and expense for citizens and the Colorado government. That works for me.
