    This cartoon is dated 3 months hence. An excellent blend of past, present, future occurrences.

    Republican politicians tread a fine line of having to publicly appeal to the right wing foaming screamers, and then privately not actually implement their insane demands.
    ’course there are exceptions, where some Republican actually believe that bat-$hit nonsense.

    Elephants, interestingly, are the only animals with two sets of forward-facing knees.

    You brought the maniacs aboard so that they could pump up the boilers, but you didn’t have a plan for them storming the cabin so that they could take the wheel….

    How about those in the middle that see it as the truth. And the death of the Grand Old Party. And strangely enough, those in the middle would also call that a sad thing for the body politic of America!!!

    @Robert Landers

    I don’t see the death of the GOP…only a new breed of more centrist young people coming along to change it’s direction…call them the recovering Republicans…hopefully, this country can get back to the days when there was a significant overlap of centrists on both sides and bipartisanship really mattered.

    The real GOP hit the graveyard by the second year of Reagan’s first term.

    This is no elephant. It’s a Mastadon that thawed out of the permafrost due to global warming.

    Ah, yes, a Mastodon. Those were indeed the good old days when Mastodons roamed the earth. And how the Republicans seem to want to return to them…

    @YellowDogDemocrat & Robert Landers,
    The once upon a time Grand Old Party doesn’t have enough “centrist” young people; nor does it really attempt to attract any at all – especially if they are sufficiently “centrist” to actually seek the return to government by intelligent compromise – to ever change its direction, or to recover its former significance in the political arena. As with the Whigs, the fossilization of the leadership has come to the point of “casting in concrete” the path of reactionary regressivism that marks the sole observable position of the Republican Party today.

    The Party that can offer candidates such as Palin, Bachmann, with a straight face, and serious intent, has long lost its integrity. Just as the Party that continues such ridiculous propaganda as put out by the “birthers”; hails its extremists in their constant efforts to “purge the voting rolls” – for the most specious excuses available – wages a GENUINE war on women’s rights, gay people and minorities; and elevates any and all those who propound the senseless babble, and idiotologies of the bulk of superstitiously ignorant, and arrogantly stubbornly stupid, Jackasses-in-the-Pulpit, who, week after week, endlessly blather nonsense, as if it were the foundation upon which our CIVIL, and SECULAR, Democratic Republic was founded, merely serves to underscore the dearth of sufficiently intelligent, and sincerely dedicated, young people – “centrist” or otherwise – to influence its future.

    The quoted poem, from Dylan Thomas, is the most apropos posting on the blog. And, the best that can be said for those not yet in the Elephant Graveyard, as they dodder to their ultimate end is: Good Riddance!
