I am hetero and have the right to marry, but I would never do such a thing, because a divorce can ruin your life. Maybe it will be easier for gay couples, less expansive and such, but still… There is a German proverb: “Darum prüfe wer sich ewig bindet, auf dass er auch den Richtgen findet”. It means: you better be darn sure about your partner before you tie the knot, forever. And how sure can you be about any person if you don’t happen to be a mind-reader?

Actually, Salt Lake City passed a law a few years ago stating that “sexual preference” could not be used as a factor to deny a person housing.
    []
And SLC is also home to its own little chapter of the punk rock movement.

Very good point but the other end of the problem is living your life alone. If you have a long term relationship with a woman and she moves away, you may never see your children again.

Marriage may have its short comings, still they are not in the area marriage was made for, children and bringing a man and a women together.

Didn’t even know Punk Rock is still around. Do they still slam dance, got to be hard on a 50 year old rocker.

    That is extremely sad.
    .
That you have never had a person that you wanted to spend your life with, and why? Because of money? Because you love your money more than you think you can love and be loved by another human being!
    .
That is a very sad admission of the truth by you indeed!
    .
    I grieve for you.

You must be really miserable and want everyone else to be miserable also.

    @Rockngolfer

Why on Earth would you assume that?
    .
If money is more important to you than people then you most likely have too little of each in your life.
    .
And even if I am miserable, and then I wanted everyone else to be miserable too, I wouldn’t suggest to them that the love for/from a human being would make them miserable.
    .
The only good use for money is to buy your family out of slavery.
    .
It is this generation’s obligation to the next generation to help them release the family from the cycle of poverty we call the Middle Class.
    .
But if there is no “next generation” then what is the use of wealth? Nothing.
    .
I don’t know if you were trying to be funny Rockngolfer. But I do know that you weren’t funny. In fact you were rather miserable in your attempt to make me feel miserable too.

Well, I’ve never been married, and it seems likely at this point that I never will be. C’est la vie. My parents had a wonderful marriage, and both my siblings have good marriages, so I have nothing against marriage, and sometimes I feel like I’ve missed out on something important, BUT:

I think being unmarried is better than being in a BAD marriage, by a long shot. Would most of you agree with me on that score?

Nah, the money is just the end-game. It starts with “Not tonight, I have a headache”. It goes on with “Do I look fat to you?”. And then there are the 200 pairs of shoes! I could not stand it! They are from another planet, leave them alone…

There are no fault divorces if you qualify. There are also legal reasons for marrying too that are very important to those who have good marriages.
