I’d love to know in which circle of his Inferno Dante would decide to place Thatcher. I have my own theories, of course…..

No, sorry. Murder for profit is clearly a Republican “value”. Just ask the NRA.

Jesus of Nazareth: When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: For I was an hungered, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungered, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: For I was an hungered, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungered, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me. And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

All TEA Party conservatives go to heaven
    .
Naw. They go into the “waiting room” along with Ronnie. Sorta like ‘Groundhog Day’, sooner or later they’ll catch on.

“Doesn’t it seem kind of strange that as a professed christian Oliphant always seems to portray god as a ineffectual idiot that panders to Conservative politicians?”

I don’t see that. It seems to me that Oliphant usually portrays God as a harried-and-overworked, sometimes curmudgeonly but generally good-hearted executive. Lou Grant, perhaps (from MTM’s show, not his own). When it comes to His interactions with conservatives, it’s sort of “Well, this is how they EXPECT me to be, so I’ll be that…for them. For the moment.”

It’d be interesting to see a survey of his treatments of God, though. I wasn’t aware that Oliphant was a professed Christian, but if that’s true it’s clear that he believes God can take a joke…

This is a remarkably civil Oliphant panel. I believe he usually cuts a lot of slack with the death cartoons, regardless of his feelings about the politics or behavior of the deceased. Usually. The world at large is a far better place because Thatcher, Reagan and Pope John Paul II pushed European Communism into the dustbin of history.

Ed Abbey once said that it didn’t make any difference if there was a heaven, because the person never lived who was good enough to go there. I take the view that if anyone goes, everyone goes, though some may not get very good seats. For their service in fighting evil, the three I’ve referred to would get good seats. And the sort of cartoon God depicted above would have enough of a sense of humor to let Oliphant in. Think of the material for new cartoons, to be published in the Eternal Times!

Parting shot: If the sort of people who have hijacked the term “liberal” are allowed into heaven, then the sort of people who have hijacked the term “conservative” are certainly good enough.

I’d personally say that Oliphant would deserve to go to Heaven CENTURIES before Reagan and Thatcher, although I’ll grant you Pope John Paul II. (Then again, I’ve often wondered how much the world would be different had John Paul I had his chance to make his mark……..)

Conservative tea sippers inflicting theirs on the poorest, most powerless among us. Be interesting to see how you all answer when Jesus asks what have you done for the least of my brothers? And that’s “for” not “to”.
