Reminds me of that old joke about Canada. Where the old WW2 Vet says, “And last but surely not least, I want to thank Canada for that tank they sent us during World War 2. We couldn’t have beaten Hitler without it!”
toasteroven said, about 1 month ago
And I’m sure the 50,000 Canadians who died in the war appreciate your sense of humor.
Say, is that Woodstock in the corner? What’s he doing in the army?

No, that’s Punk, Oliphant’s trademark character - he’s somewhere in every Oliphant strip

No, the Private looks like that old newspaper-strip slash comic book character “Sad Sack.”
Sad Sack predates both Beetle Bailey and Gomer Pyle, USMC. He is credited as being their inspiration, in fact.
Pretty sure Sad Sack was created during WW2 by a member of the US Army…
Simon_Jester said, about 1 month ago
The Sad Sack was created by Sgt. George Baker, who was KIA in Italy.
I think he made his debut in either Stars and Stripes or Yank.
In regards to that infantile joke you posted,( par for the course ) Canada joined the war long before the US did….and go look up the Dieppe Raid on Wiki.
If you can pull yourself away from spouting hatred long enough

Hey Community organizer in chief, You know nothing about what is going on over there! Why Don’t you just sit down and take the advice of the guys you put in charge instead of dragging your heals! I know these guys actually earned there way to the top and are not your hand picked lefty commi friends. So give them a chance to do there job!

The last time we took the advice of the generals to send more and more troops…it was called Vietnam.
zonkerpirate said, about 1 month ago
is that what they mean when they say an “Army of One’?

Obama is a butcher, a silky killer far more deadly and threatening to peace than the Taliban, Al Quaida,Iran and the murderous Israelis put together. How many more dead Iraqi,Afghani and Pakistani women and children will it take to slake the American president’s thirst for blood?
How many millions does the US have to murder before she will be glutted? Will anything make Americans feel safe and secure?

So cat you have no faith in our military? Obama wanted to go to Afgahn so as to be “not Bush” now he is just back peddling on the job at hand. He could not just appoint one of his czars to do the job. He had to pick from guys who have earned there place in the jobs they do. So my advice still stands Listen to those guys and stop dragging your feet. No one is going to cover for you like they did when it took you a few days to “save” that captain from the pirates. This is a War! Stop treating it like some back yard game of cops and robbers.

Doesn’t a war have TWO armies? When was the last time a taliban soldier dragged you out of your house and into the street and arrested you?

scotty, google Juno Beach, Royal 22e régiment, Dieppe and Ypres so you’ll go to bed tonight a bit less dumb (figure of speech; se coucher un peu moins niaiseux).
My boyfriend has a cousin in Afghanistan right now, fighting the war your “war president” started. His grandfather was in WW2 and my grandfather was in WW1.
For a century we helped to get europe out of its messes and now we have to pick up after republicans.

Might do well to remember that Cheney and Rumsfeld sent our troops into Afghanistan, and Iraq, without the equipment, or manpower, they needed to do the job in wars that Bush shouldn’t have started. The generals who knew what to do were ignored, now we’re paying the price, and it isn’t easy to pick up the pieces so badly scattered by the previous morons in charge.

Old “five deferment’s-Cheney” and “couldn’t serve Bush” really left a bag of crud on the U.S. porch. Now we will see true character take over. Scott , come play hockey sometime! We can show you a Canadian ice trick!
cdward said, about 1 month ago
HQ, let’s be sure to remember that we were in Afghanistan before we were in Iraq. George W. Bush sent us there. We’ve been there ever since. Obama did not get us in there. He wanted to divert resources to Afghanistan from Iraq because that’s where we started out in our fight against al Qaeda. If we can’t get bin Laden and al Qaeda by being in Afghanistan, we should get our troops out of there while still finding ways to help rebuild what we so effectively destroyed there.
The mission is bin Laden, not the Taliban.
