Here is my advice to you conserevatives: don’t bother responding or commenting on this cartoon, there is no need to, you have won.
Kick back and relax, you will be back in power after 2012. The reason I say this is that we liberials have come to relealize what the Republicans have known all along: The Democrats are wimps.
Just compare 2000/2004 with 2008. In 2000 the Republicans lost the popular vote, and might lose the Electorial College, so they ignored the Constitution (the House should have been the one to decided the election) and got their guy decared President. Then they just took off.
They had an agenda, and put it into effect – no tiptoeing in, no “that was close election so maybe we should go slow” no reaching accross the aisle - just “Were in power and this is what we are going to do!”
In 2004 they won by a slim margain, so they declared it a “mandate” and that was that. If you disagreed with them you were with the terrorist – or maybe even terrorist! The President was all powerful, so just shut up and eat your “Freedom Fries” while we run everything.
Now compare that to 2008 – the Demoncrats won by a landslide – they control the House and Senate, and don’t need any Republican votes to pass anything they wanted. AND WHAT DID THEY DO?
That’s not a comment, it’s a real question – I can’t think of any single thing they done, except to keep asking the Republicans “is it alright if we do this, if you say no then we wont do it.”
We voted for “Change” yet nothing has changed. Health Care was going to be their number one issue, but all it took was a few shouts of “death camps”, “illegials getting health care”, “socialism” and it’s dead.
Just think what would have happened to any Democrate who called Bush a “liar” during one of his speeches to Congress, the Republicans would have picked the guy up and thrown him out of the building, then passed a law they he could never come back, and had him recalled and thrown out of office in a week. The Demoncrates? Well they did (I think) tell the guy he was rude – although I dont’ know if they used such a strong word.
All the issues we Liberials cared about will die a slow death, or more likely, never be considered. The Democrates will keep reaching out to the people who will never vote for them, most of Americans will grow tired of all anger and shouting, and of nothing ever getting done, and vote for the “Party Of Change” - the Republicans.
And they will know what to do – tax cuts for the rich!

Come to realize? Just now? I learned that during the Clinton Administration just before leaving the party.
Look, if you want change, demand it. Write to or call your congressmen and the White House. Tell them you support the public option. Do you think the Republicans are just sitting back? No. They seem to be winning because they are vocal. Nasty and unruly, but vocal. The squeaky wheel gets the grease, so start squeaking.
To steal a line from Dylan Thomas, do not go gentle into that good night.

aki, there are two new parties. The real liberal party of this country died as did the real republican party. They current groups are just corporate toadies now.

I wonder if the 5th estate gets the same health care program Congress is on? Maybe that is why they are trying to destroy the best health care system in the world?
ray32648 said, about 1 month ago
Define “best”. 50% more expensive with considerably poorer results. Maybe your next appointment should be with an ophthalmologist to get those rose colored glasses removed.

AW!!! The impatience of youth will undo us all!!!!
A true cynic never is defeated.
A defeatist is left to comment wistfully on cartoons!!!
Obama has not even had time to replace 90% of Bushes US Attorneys. He’ got a multitude of challenges. He has only been in office 8 months.
I’m glad he’s not giving in, and giving up!!

No, those only existed inside your very vivid imagination.

Democrats are aggravating because they are not doctrinaire. Remember Will Rogers observation on the subject.
And, two things you don’t want to watch being made: sausage and legislation.
We’ll cook up some and see if it’s fit to eat when it’s done.

Not all Republicans are conservatives and not all Democrats are liberals.
Not all conservatives are Republicans, and not all liberals are Democrats.
“Pigs is pigs,” except when they’re not pigs.

Those policies are only “extreme left” to those looking at them from the extreme right.

I don’t understand why my fellow Democrats are so fatalistic.Single-Payer is the real answer to health care,as most of our modern democratic allies decided long ago.Imperfect as the Public Option is,President Obama needs to force a vote to show who’s trying to solve the health care problem and who’s happy with things the way they are.If health care reform does fail it will be a pyrrhic victory for the GOP.

Back in July MSNBC had one of their panel discussion about health care. It had the usual talking heads, but also a well know comedian.
The discussion followed the usual path: this might/might not happen, because of this/and that, maybe this/maybe that, then the comedian made the follow comment.
“Let’s see, on one side 47 million uninsured Americans - 47 million men, women, and childred - on the other side a few rich corporations. It’s a no contest, health care will lose.” and everyone laught at the joke.
Turns out it was no joke.

“the best health care system in the world”
That’s what you think ranking 17th in infant mortality is? Best?
motivemagus said, about 1 month ago
…and 27th in overall healthcare? And 35th on life expectancy? (Behind Canada [#6], France[#7], Sweden[#8], Switzerland [#9], Spain [#16], Norway [#17], and the UK [#25]. Yeah, those socialist states (ha!) have such crappy healthcare…)
See the CIA World Factbook for 2009. Yes, our CIA.

Anybody who wants to turn the world economy upside down because they THINK, they’re RELATIVELY CERTAIN, they ALMOST KNOW FOR SURE…they’re 99.8% CERTAIN (and , remember these are evolutionary-type syncophant-dilettantes)…that a half-degree increase in the global earth temperature in the last 30 years means our industries are making too much CO-2 - that my friends is crazy, precipitate and ill-advised. Ergo, one must consider that the marxists are indeed looking to apply there doctrine of incrementalism to the only thing they fear more than sweltering summers: a nation founded on individual freedom.
Don’t you Dems think you have more important things to do before the next two election-cycles?
motivemagus said, about 1 month ago
Sigh. The difference between the current climate and the last ice age is somewhere around a couple of degrees, last I checked. That’s average, remember – it gets much colder some places and warmer in others.
And we call the ability to find these things out “science.” Might want to look into it sometime.
NoFearPup

And what caused the last Ice Age, sir?
motivemagus said, about 1 month ago
Didn’t we discuss this once? There are natural cycles, including the irregularities in Earth’s orbit, Draysonian tilt, and whatnot; and normally we would have been in another Ice Age already. It is thought the reason why not is because of our impact on the climate, throwing off the normal balance, or, if you will, recentering it.

Pup. The next time you treat a severe infection, use an out dated antibiotic. You see, bacteria adapt to antibiotics by sharing plasmids. Plasmids are a small bit of DNA that encodes for an enzyme to disable the antibiotic or render the bacteria safe from the antibiotic through cell wall changes or receptor modification. Because you don’t believe in genetics…IT MUST BE SO. So try your little genetic experiment and let me know how it goes.

My sincere apologies pup.I misunderstood your “evolutionary-type sycophant dilettantes” statement as a cut on evolution . I see it was clearly meant as a descriptive term. I still feel global warming is a very real threat. You can realize that there are vegetation or bioclimatic zones in which only certain plant communities survive. In Colorado the Alpine zone has been replaced by the subalpine zone previously lower on the mountains. As a result plants and animals present from the last ice age are becoming extinct such as the mountain pica. The west has lost 1/3 to 1/2 of all the aspen stands. Increased invasive species of grasses have caused increased wild fires. MILLIONS of trees are dying across the west. The warmer winters allows pine beetles to thrive in lodge pole pines. If this is happening now, just imagine what your grandchildren will face.
