Living in NYC and reading the Post it seems every day we discover another $200,000 income he forgot to report or another $1M property he didn’t list. Today he cried this is all racism.

800# you know in your heart of hearts that I am Totallynonpartisan when it come to politicians. I just agree with some positions, and not others, as the whim strikes me.

Forgive me for saying the following Dirty Words: CHARLIE RANGEL, DEMOCRAT
Jase99 said, 2 months ago
Yes, because there has never been a corrupt Republican. Get real. The Republican Party of Minnesota had its own tax dodge issues a year or two back. Let’s not forget all those gay sex scandals from various prominent Republicans. That’s just the proverbial tip of the iceberg.
We had 8 years of Republican scandals of varying degrees of severity. Scandals aren’t partisan, but the people who fuss over them are. Now that the Dems are in power, we should naturally expect a few out of them. Prosecute Rangle and move on.

The Democrats who are the none bigot party will not allow a Evangelical Christian in the Supreme Court even though we are depending who you talk to anywhere between 1/6 to 1/3 of the population. Yea they aren’t bigots.

bcs is right, but also that percentage strikes me as odd. According to a few websites I’ve seen, evangelicals are nowhere near that percentage of the US population, but it’s hard to find. On adherents.com, for example, you find as of 2001:
24.5% Catholic
16.3% Baptist
6.8% Methodist/Wesleyan
4.6% Lutheran
2.7% Presbyterian
2.1% Pentecostal/Charismatic
1.7% Episcopalian/Anglican
…and the rest below that. Their total is only about 60% of the total population.
Things may have changed, but I don’t see anywhere near 1/6 of the total population being evangelical unless you count 90% of Baptists being evangelical, which I know is not true, plus all the Pentecostal, and the various percentages below that.

Regardless of race, creed, or color, graft knows no distinction, like that great equalizer: Grandfather Death. Must be nice to investigate your own tax fraud.

And this, my friends, is why our tax code is a tangled web…a multi-thousand page mish-mash of unnecessary regulations so complicated that people have to hire people who do nothing but do taxes.
It is oppressive and unnecessary.
It’s not a wonder these men can cook up such stupid tax laws. They exempt themselves from them.

All those denominations in your 60% are considered “evangelical” in the strict sense of the word, Motive.

Jack75287, there’s too much hypocracy in government now without adding the evangelical Christians into the mix. Some of us don’t need the Pat Robertsons, Jerry Falwells, Fred Phelpses, and Ted Haggards of the world to tell the rest of us how to live. They need to sort out their own houses before they start condemning mine.

Evangelicals believe God is all powerful so therefore would not need a representative on the Supreme Court right? Funy how this all powerful deity needs humans to impose its laws. Hmmmmmmm……..scary.

Pup, not every denomination which practices evangelism calls itself “Evangelical”, any more than every denomination which practices baptism is “Baptist”.
Big-E Evangelical Christianity is a movement that comprises many denominations, but not all within those denominations would consider themselves “Evangelicals”. I think the only way to get an accurate count is to figure out how many people call THEMSELVES “Evangelicals”. I think most of the people in the percentages listed by motivemagus would opt out.
Personally, I don’t even call myself “Christian”, although I learn much from the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth. I look at people who call themselves “Christian” and I say “I’m not one of them”, and when they look at me they likewise say “He’s not one of us.”
Hell, I’ve known people who just identify themselves as “Christian” to distinguish themselves from Catholics!
Jase99 said, 2 months ago
I forgot all about Swaggart. I have sinned against you!
I have to partially agree with fritzoid in that I also don’t call myself a Christian. While we can learn many important things from the teachings of Christ, most of the organized religions in his name have lost their way. Many of those who wear the “Christian” badge so brazenly (Robertson, Haggard, Bush, the current Pope, et cetera) rarely actually follow the actual teachings of Christ.
