Remember some folks loved Bush since he was the kind of President they wanted to share a beer with… yet forgetting Dubya was an alcoholic!
churchillwasright said, 3 months ago
Here’s a question… what would you call someone who sees something that in no conceivable way would remind any sane person of Bush, yet that person immediately thinks of Bush? (cue Jeopardy music)

That Beer Summit must be at Cheers……it’s Cliff, Paul and Norm! (left to right ) Bartender is Sam.

Must be Rick’s joint. Play it, just play it, Sam!

“Have a beer with” is more a figure of speech than an actual bar order, Dale. It doesn’t matter if the prof. drinks wine or the cop drinks a Coke, the intent is the same.
HOWGOZIT said, 3 months ago
Yes–and the intent in this case is just to improve
Baroke’s image for getting involved in the first place.

Howgozit, Obama was asked a question… he was never involved in this!
parkersinthehouse said, 3 months ago
pretty smart huh?
HOWGOZIT said, 3 months ago
Hopson–he got involved when he made his “stupidly” comment–then continued to remark about the occurrence. And he is continuing with this photo op at the picnic table (hope they play on the jungle gym too).

HOWGOZIT, Obama got “involved” when he was ASKED a question. Like it or not, he IS the president of the United States of America!
churchillwasright said, 3 months ago
DALE, you are such a political hack. I’m sure you had no problem with Obama not giving a statement for 5 days after the post-Iranian election strife (even though he had been ASKED and this was an important matter) But when ASKED about something he admittedly had no facts about, you want him to be “involved”.
If you can see the importance of the President weighing his reaction in one regard, why can’t you see it in the other? Of course we know the reason.

Actually, the cop screwed up…They are trained to be emotionally un-involved, yet he let Snaky get to him. Not that Snarky acted in a civil manner and it was assuredly none of Obama’s business. But that’s who we elected: A fringe-Socialist-Lib-Elite,anti-Traditional, humanist, Acorn-supporting, communist sympathizer. Truth revolves around Lib-propaganda-paradigms for our new President (and most of the people he has chosen to hang with his entire life).
Conservatism is the enemy. The police are the tool of the “ruling White class”. Anything that smacks of morality is part of a patriarchal imperial hegemony that needs to be done away with- they must remove the tenets of a tyrannical system that will enforce boundaries on their favorite behaviors and, especially, their favorite attitudes. You’ve never seen someone fight like a Lib that has been told they are wrong. You must be shouted down or defamed. They can not abide your out-right dissent.
HOWGOZIT said, 3 months ago
Hopson–I do not mind him being our President. But when asked a question and he starts out that he only has a vague understanding of incident he should not have followed it up with the acted “stupidly” comment. That is more like Biden not President Obama.
motivemagus said, 3 months ago
NFP, I was starting to agree with you, and then you called Obama “fringe.” Ha! Middle-of-the-road, relatively business-friendly – yeah, that’s real fringy.
You know, this is really just a screwup all the way around, and I’m long since over it, but I do have to point out that blacks are hassled more. Happens all the time. I know a Harvard Ph.D, a consultant, works with executives, very low-key guy who got thrown in the back of a cop car in cuffs because his wife (who was white) parked in the wrong zone in O’Hare airport some years ago so he could bring the bags right to the car. This was before 9/11, so it’s not the current airport security paranoia. His wife (also a consultant with a Ph.D, by the way) was getting ready to rip the cop a new one, and her husband just shook his head and went quietly.
I’m not African-American; I have no visceral understanding of the bias in American society, but I know it’s there.

Obama was asked a question about a friend of his… case close on that! As for his not answering questions about the Iranian election he was right not to answer since the right-wingers in Iran keep lying the USA was involved in that election. Got it?
churchillwasright said, 3 months ago
^ You only prove my point that you are an Obamabot political hack when you say “case closed… got it?” despite the fact that this has been a top story for the 10 days (and counting) since he said it! It is now time for you to bring up BOOOSH in 3… 2… 1…

Dale I see why you have the shades–you are blind to the truth.
churchillwasright said, 3 months ago
DEADHEAD: I’ll go further and say some of DALE’s one liners are more than just witty– they’re downright professional grade funny. But, just like David Letterman, that doesn’t preclude them from being political hacks.
Jase99 said, 3 months ago
churchillwasright calling someone a political hack is like the pot calling the kettle black. I’m not a big supporter of Obama, but there’s quite a few people who post in these fora who hate Obama because they want to hate him or are told to by pundits.
I am a very liberal person when compared to the Democratic party leadership, but I never held hatred for GW Bush. I think he was a terrible president. I feel his policies and laws were a massive detriment for our country. I don’t think he’s a very good person. While I disaprove of his actions, policies, and personality, I don’t feel hatred for him. Why do so many anti-Obama people feel such vile hatred?
churchillwasright said, 3 months ago
^ How is it that you can say you don’t hate Bush despite disagreeing with everything he was, but anybody who disagrees with Obama you characterize as full of vile hatred?
I reserve vile hatred for the likes of Hitler. I don’t like Obama’s policies, or his personality. He never liked this country, and if it were up to him, he would have us be a socialist paradise, where everyone is equally poor. One only read his speeches to see what he’s about. Thankfully there is opposition to that. As someone who is left of left, you think of that as vile hatred. So be it.
Here’s another one for you, Jase. Why don’t you read the comic again, and then look at Dale and my comments back and forth, and tell me where my comments were vile and hateful.
DrCanuck said, 3 months ago
churchillwasright said: “tell me where my comments were vile and hateful.”
And then said: “[Obama] never liked this country, and if it were up to him, he would have us be a socialist paradise, where everyone is equally poor.”
DrCanuck responds: That’s pretty vile and hateful, inasmuch as it’s completely untrue.
Jase99 said, 3 months ago
I should clarify. I called churchillwasright a political hack and will go further to say his anti-Obama ideas have little basis in fact or reality. I then went into a mini rant about how many anti-Obama people have such a vile, unreasonable hatred for him.
Churchillwasright obviously has a strong dislike of Obama that at least borders on hatred, but I didn’t mean to say that he specifically had the passionate hatred I ranted about. At least not in comparison to stryper, pup, anandy, and et cetera. Thems is just nuts.

Demonizing one person or another isn’t going to accomplish anything but to further polarize this country.
When we talk politics we seem to conveniently forget that we still have a lot in common. We all want what is best for this country. We just disagree on how we get there.
Republicans grew government when they were in power. They abandoned their principles and got voted out because of it. Now Democrats are in power and they are growing government even faster. When government grows the people’s power shrinks. There is no way around that.
We The People have been lulled to sleep and been lead to believe that this is a Democrat vs. Republican conflict when it is truly a Government vs. We The People conflict.
Our politicians are just like car salesmen…they are selling you something that looks good but conveniently forget to mention all the stuff in the fine print…what the sale will actually cost you.
The American people have been sold bill after bill of goods since at least Roosevelt if not further back.
We are being steered towards a society that is touted as “fair” but will turn out much like Russia did. The politically powerful will become the rich and all the people will be equally poor. Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it.

Oh wow…all that and I didn’t even post about the toon. Talk about getting carried away.
I really don’t think the beer summit really changed anything. While so many were so quick to fault the officer in this case I think Gates is the real racist in this equation.
DrCanuck said, 3 months ago
David said: “Demonizing one person or another isn’t going to accomplish anything but to further polarize this country.”
DrCanuck responds: Well, yeah, David, that’s the point. It’s time for another civil war, time the US got broken up into separate and individual countries. The educated Democratic north, the regressive Republican south, Hawaii, Alaska, and Texas all forming individual nations, California, Arizona, and New Mexico reverting to Mexico. You forget that “The United States” is not a name so much as a description. Wouldn’t that be a GREAT idea? Think of how much safer the rest of the world would be.

DR.SHAMUCK: Why are you filled with such vile hatred?

Socialism only sucks for the wealthy, for the majority it’s a step up. As far as Obama hating his country I see it more like a parent of a child who is very bright and is capable of getting straight A’s but is content bringing home C’s. Now as a good parent are you going to encourage this embrace of mediocrity or try to motivate them to strive to do better? That’s how Obama sees America, it’s good but has a lot of room for improvement. That’s love not hate.

David, a reminder this is a government of the people, for the people and by the people. It is not a people versus government thing at all. You forget the robber barons of yesteryear and currently, when a CEO makes 300 times more than a worker I believe the system is not working fairly.
DrCanuck said, 3 months ago
choichy’: Hatred? What hatred? Everyone on this blog and in the U.S., left and right, are at each others’ throats. They’d all be so much happier if the other side would just go away. And I love the U.S. so much that I’d LOVE to see all of you happy.

Wow, did I get this thread going… wait’ll you see what I post on “Blondie” and “Marmaduke”!
churchillwasright stated ” You only prove my point that you are an Obamabot political hack when you say “case closed… got it?” despite the fact that this has been a top story for the 10 days (and counting) since he said it!”
That this lasted 10 days as a top story is just an example of how lame our news media is. Michael Jackson’s death has also been a top story for weeks, BUT SHOULDN’T BE!
We’re greater and more important issues to be addressing which was the reason for my “case closed” statement… time to move on to something a lot more valid to be talking about!

David, of course you do. Nothing surprising about that. I’ll play the middle and say that many, maybe most black guys have a deep distrust of police based on long experience – yes, they do get hassled more that white guys – so it’s not surprising he wouldn’t show the same respect that a white civilian might show. Not saying he shouldn’t have maintained a calm demeanor, but there’s long history there.
Cops often get much more touchy than you might suspect, too, because they’re often in uncertain situations. Not saying this cop shouldn’t have showed more restraint and a thicker skin. All this is to say that the situation is not unlike many that occur every day, and calling one or the other racist is utterly useless in terms of making something like this avoidable. It will require an improvement in relations with the different communities - or this situation will continue to repeat itself.

Dale - and Helen Keller was a devoted Socialist, too.

Socialism? I thought we were supposed to be scared of terrorists. Boy, when you don’t watch Fox “News,” you loose all track of who or what the boogieman is. But then I’m not the kind of guy who has his opinions dictated to him by a network that spent a good deal of time discussing a if Presidential candidate, his terrorist fist bump, and his “baby mama” are black enough or perhaps too black to lead our country.
