Commander Davidson Bulloch, a former Confederate Navy submarine captain, gets more than he bargains for when he signs on as the first captain of Maryland's new "Oyster Navy" and sets out to rid the Chesapeake Bay of illegal oyster dredgers. Beset with an aging crew of misfits and his cantankerous iron-clad steamer, The Layla, Davidson quickly realizes he's dealing with more than just some purloined oysters; the nefarious pirate Treacher Fink has hatched a plan to summon the ghost of a legendary Chesapeake Bay waterman who has the power to control the sea and everything in it.

You don’t go to war with the troops you want,

Actually I read a lot of comics today before I got here and this is the first to make me laugh out loud. Excellent page!

I remember drills like that in basic. Especially Joost at end. Present Arms! His is….. Here they are!
Had a soldier learning to salute. He would mimic the salute. He used his left hand when facing the instructor. Mirror like. The instructor shouted “Other side, other side, maggot!” He took that left hand over to the right side and smiled. Just rolled it right over. Funniest thing we ever saw stifling all the laughter we could muster.
And McSpook you are so right. Right in the middle of a firefight in Nam our M60 gun went quiet. I went over to help. The gunner was behind the weapon and it was out of ammo. He asked me without blinking…..How do you load it? You can deliver instructions in seconds I found out and we got the weapon back on line. I sort of hung around, you know, just in case he forgot.

I don’t remember the words,“must be from a military background” being in the job description.

So there is the confusion.
At least he has not lit into a Drill Instructor Gunnery Sergeant Hartman tirade about them. They would say “Don’t yell at me, I’m going home because you’re mean.”
