Commander Davidson Bulloch, a former Confederate Navy submarine captain, gets more than he bargains for when he signs on as the first captain of Maryland's new "Oyster Navy" and sets out to rid the Chesapeake Bay of illegal oyster dredgers. Beset with an aging crew of misfits and his cantankerous iron-clad steamer, The Layla, Davidson quickly realizes he's dealing with more than just some purloined oysters; the nefarious pirate Treacher Fink has hatched a plan to summon the ghost of a legendary Chesapeake Bay waterman who has the power to control the sea and everything in it.

Love the lady “Layla”. What a ship.
Either she is built to run or the metal is soo soft the breeze has pushed her topside back a bit.
Squid is really tasty cooked Asian style. It is however an acquired taste. (What NO OYSTERS!!!!!!!)
To mar3al2ju1.
These are the other guys. Its like kickball or dodgeball. All the good kids are gone. This is your team.
To the author.
“A bit long of tooth” how to say short without saying it directly.
You sir are a master of a much older language. Love it.

@Veteran
“A bit long of tooth” refers to an old(er) person, not a short one. He was saying that the crew is on the older side as opposed to being young or the right side of middle age.

Muzzles seem clean. Who cares what they look like as long as they can shoot.

Looks like that ship has been through the wringer. Not an auspicious start for such an important enterprise. Which is the way I like it.

Always worth the wait.

@Dragon0131
And considering the time period the older ones are like 70 year olds today and they are probably in their 50’s and 60’s.

Thanks, my dad had it wrong. It is what he told me it meant.
Veteran said, 3 months ago
But you know. He also got the quote to the book wrong. The captain is make the short sign with his hand and the crew is not all that old by the looks. 50/50 maybe?
I still like oysters.
surfstuff55 said, 3 months ago
Had some oysters on the half shell at dinner tonight. Next time I’ll hoist a few extra in your honor Veteran.
What the crew lacks in terms of youthful exuberance, they will more than make up in terms of savvy and experience.

Hoping to make the acquaintance of the rest of the crew next week?

Indeed! And he’s not the only one sporting gray hair… (But, you’re maybe responding to the hand gesture… I may have to change that.)
