Commander Davidson Bulloch, a former Confederate Navy submarine captain, gets more than he bargains for when he signs on as the first captain of Maryland's new "Oyster Navy" and sets out to rid the Chesapeake Bay of illegal oyster dredgers. Beset with an aging crew of misfits and his cantankerous iron-clad steamer, The Layla, Davidson quickly realizes he's dealing with more than just some purloined oysters; the nefarious pirate Treacher Fink has hatched a plan to summon the ghost of a legendary Chesapeake Bay waterman who has the power to control the sea and everything in it.

First time I viewed this comic. Last time, too.

Don’t you find any charm in the fine quality of his artwork? Give it some time and you might find yourself engaged by his characters, and his curious tale of evil men who are destroying a historic fishing area, and those bent on stopping them. If nothing else, even if you aren’t satisfied with his effort, why rub it in?
Ben Towle obviously puts a great deal of effort into his creation here. Why be so callous about your dissatisfaction with it?

Jeez. You don’t care for the comic that’s fine but no need to tear Ben down!!! There is obvious effort and care in this work!!! But you don’t care, you just want your quick punchline.

Thanks for the kind words, Gary. And you know what? Not everything’s for everybody—and that’s perfectly OK. I’m not sure how many of these long-form narrative strips are running now at gocomics, but not a whole lot for sure. If someone comes to this strip looking for gags, they’re naturally going to be disappointed.

My New Year’s resolution this year was to “ramp up production.” I don’t want to switch to twice a week, though, until I I’ve built up enough of a backlog that I know I’ll never miss a post. I’m doing pretty well so far in January. If I can keep up this pace I’ll increase posting maybe this spring.
