Over the Hedge, created by T Lewis and Michael Fry, takes a freshly skewed look at suburban living from the perspective of the animals who lived there first. The strip stars RJ, a mischievous raccoon, and Verne, his sensitive best-buddy turtle. Together they fight to save their wooded wonderland from the evils of encroaching suburbia but end up becoming distracted by wide-screen TVs, discarded fast food containers and the fun of wreaking havoc on the local homeowners' association.

Not enough cold weather around here. At this rate, it will be a bad year for peaches.

We’ve been having 2 months longer winter for four straight years in the Pacific Northwest. Hoping this year is not one of them. The Pacific High, a high pressure system that brings an end to the fall/winter/spring weather pattern (rains west of the cascades, cold east of the cascades), normally begins in May and lasts through the second or third week of October.
.
It’s not formed until July for four straight years. The effects on plants in the forested regions of the state with an effective 8 months more of winter in 4 years have not been good.
.
Also disturbing is the sheer number of Arctic fronts that brought frost during the summer months of 2009, 2010, and 2011. Every two to 3 weeks, a killer frost hit on the west side of the Cascades. Not long ago, the pear crop didn’t come in right in the Rogue Valley, thanks to it being a cool summer. The crops were tremendously delayed.
.
As a general rule, Arctic air masses only hit the PNW from November at the earliest to about April at the latest. We’ve been having them periodically during the summers.

It’s snowing here and we’ve been warned to expect temperatures of minus ten by Wednesday. I don’t know if this helps at all.

It’s okay. You can say it. Just close your eyes and let the words just quietly slip out: GLOBAL WARMING.

Global Climate Disruption is more accurate.

Yeah, it’s been a weird winter her in N. Lower Michigan. ?Had the shop doors open in December and again in January because at 50°F it was nice. Hate snow, hate cold, had the heavy coats (the female form is so much more pleasant not looking like the Michelin Man), but I have to say I really hated to see the bare ground in the middle of winter. It’s too hard on the animals, the lakes/watershed, and simply is not right, at least for my area.

Nabuquduriuzhur…this isn’t a science class…and Tog…I agree this isn’t in very good taste. People are dying in their cars and you post this?

I live in Vermont and I have only 8"" of snow on my lawn, even after the big storm last weekend. My sympathies to southern N.E. though, Been there, done that. I remember the Blizzard of ’78 all too well.
