Wait a second, Verne, Dave CAN’T be a real lawyer if he has a heart!
    Dave, pull yourself together, man!

His heart’s in the right place … for now.
“I solemnly pledge to do my best”, he said off-handedly.

Agreeing to do RJ’s bidding without a retainer made me quesiton his lawyer’s credentials, but his “I solemnly pledge to do my best” is pure unadulterated non-commital legalese. Yep he’s a zombie lawyer alraight.

For the curious, a “Tom Swifty” is a play-on-words related to the writing style used in the “Tom Swift, Jr.” science adventure series. Tom always did things “adverbially”, a peculiarity begging to be lampooned. My personal contribution: “Hand me the Mrs. Butterworth’s under the table.” Tom said syrup-titiously.

Wildcatherder, here’s mine: I dropped the toothpaste, she said crestfallenly.

“That’s a good one.” he thought to himself commentally.

I think they adopted “Tom Swifty” for the cartoon “Frankenstein Jr.” with his inventor young Buzz Conroy back in the 1960’s
