We miss that wonderful smell, too, but it’s against our ordinance to burn leaves…………………
Anyone remember when a roof was being tarred in your neighborhood and running to get a piece and chew? And, we are still alive.

Speaking of Leaves … what NHL is #1 in the league?
oh yeah, Toronto Maple Leafs. No, I am NOT getting my hopes up. Just pointing out facts. :P Leafs are #1 in league, for the first time in a LONG LONG time. I know, it won’t hold out.

I do,too. I remember burning leaves in the 50’s and early 60’s. The smell told of the great Fall season coming. Halloween and Thanksgiving….ah memories!

Welcome to the club. I remember driving down from Huntington Beach to go to the zoo, No Freeway! You turned “at the cliff” to head inland, and then up the hill to the zoo. That is how my Dad went.

Where do the leaves come from?

Well, we remember the ice man with the sign in the window telling how many pounds. Milkman with horse. Rags and iron man. Knife sharpener man. Hurdy Gurdy man on the street. Good Humor man. Etc. etc. etc.
Mail delivery twice a day. Butcher with sawdust on the floor giving us kids hot dogs.
No tv, just great radio and oh, those scary mysteries. Yes, those WERE the good old days.

Old-time sailors built fires on wooden decks. A layer of sand, a layer of bricks, a layer of sand, a layer of bricks. As Flashold pointed out, not sure where the mice got leaves, but clearly they do not have sand or bricks.

Milkman with horse … that knew the route by heart !!

(Meeses have built the fire over the powder magazine … we could be in for a cracker of a time !!)

Years ago after a party my next door neighbor just raked the leaves and trash from the party which was all over the ground into a ditch and set it on fire. Well there was a lot of soda cans in the mix. When the fire got going really good the aluminum cans acted as an oxidizer. It looked like a rocket engine ground test going on in the ditch. My neighbor flipped out as he did not have a clue as to what was going on. All I could do was to laugh about it
