I think it would improve things if Charley could win at least SOME of these little set-tos. No one is going to persist at attempting to reach a goal if the fruits of your labor are ALWAYS stolen from you. First of all, it just doesn’t seem right that thievery is always rewarded…even in a comic…and even those comic foils known for being downtrodden and at the short end of the stick win occasionally! Plus, where’s Nate, where are Louie and Raymond, where are the mice? Especially the mice…if they have a hockey and baseball league, and an air force, you’d think they’d be invested enough to help out?

    Good Morning Crew.

Now that the garbage is over, let’s have fun here! If they already beat you on the tomatoes, why would you throw them more? Hey, he forgot the salt and pepper!!

Morning Crew (life ain’t quite ‘good’ right now, but I hope it’ll turn around).

Brenzluv - the door is to your left, please let it hit you on the way out and don’t come back …

Question for you crewmates: Can Charlie, Nate et al. read Louie’s mind, and tell what he’s reading? Some of us were discussing that over on Garfield… the fact that is has SEEMED for the most part, that JOn CAN read it, but today, Garfield says “good thing Jon can’t hear me.”

    SO OPINE PLEASE!

The strip is called Overboard for a reason.
Sometimes Chip may go a bit overboard with a theme, the wackiness wins out.
I would like to see the mice take on the rabbits, but they are probably allies in the Rodent Revolution.

    Good Saturday Morning Crew!!

I have an anvil that I’d like to throw to the rabbits. It’ll add some iron to their diet.

    Good morning, Crew!!

@Allan - I hope things are okay for you. If you want to vent, feel free.

Regarding your question, I think that the pirates on Overboard don’t know what Louie is thinking/saying. I think that Raymond understands him and is sort of like an interpreter.

I don’t read Garfield on a regular basis, but I always thought that since Jon and Garfield had been so long together that they sort of knew what each other was saying even though Garfield was thinking it. Sort of like a couple that has been married 50 years and they don’t say anything but they have all sorts of unsaid conversations. The Garfield communication is pretty unexplainable though…

i think jon talks to garfield and garfield talks to the readers. kind of like an aside from an actor on stage.

    Good Day, Crew!

Allan I hope it will be a good morning to you soon!

I think the only time the characters in Overboard know what Louie is thinking is when Raymond translates.

BTW, next time I have a dog requiring a name, it is so going to be Louie.

Rabbits aren’t rodents, they’re lagomorphs. Although they are lagomorphs of unusual size.

@Allan: I expect mind reading occurs when it is funny and does not when that option is funnier.

Allan, this is for you (and thank you Gordonne for seeing it):

I am entitled to my opinions, just as you are entitled to disagree with them! I have said this all along. This forum is entitled “Comments,” not “Total Agreement with Majority Sentiment.” I didn’t see anyone appointed Master of Content. Personally I disagree that this strip is cutting edge any longer. It used to be. But Chip labors at times to make the point of the joke; and Pastis and Toomey alone far surpass him in cutting edge cleverness. The addition of the dogs, mice and bizarre rabbits, with the deletion of much of the original crew; took the strip away from the key impact of its original format. As has been pointed out, that’s Chip’s right and many appreciate it. There are times it still amuses and is interesting. If that deserves a “go somewhere else,” well, that’s your right to say, I guess; but you seem amazingly unclear on one of the founding concepts of this little Republic we live in, and it ain’t gonna happen. I calls ‘em the way I sees ‘em! But with the nicest intent! I’d NEVER, NEVER, NEVER tell you to take a hike or let the door hit you in the butt on the way out. You ought to be ashamed!!

And since apparently everyone goes to bed early, I’ll be sure to re-post the foregoing in the morning! It angries up the blood, better than Abe Simpson’s sarsaparilla!

About Charlie winning sometimes. Yeah, that would be cool, but it doesn’t have to be. Remember, Charlie Brown never did kick that football.

The rabbits are unique characters in this brilliant strip. They are highly intelligent (much more so than the dumb pirates,) but they are utterly amoral and totally invincible.
They are hunters (although vegetarians) who prey on the gatherers (who are carnivores.)
I also would like to see them taken down for once. Charlie deserves a break.
