There are no rats on that ship. They’re all mice.

Chip, when I have the talent to produce a cartoon series, I’ll feel qualified to tell you what to do with yours. I adore Louie, so thanks for using him a lot!!!!!

Of course Louie wouldn’t gyp the mice!
That’s a lot of treats he’s getting, though…

C’mon guys, I’d agree colnell’s “contributions” add nothing to the ongoing conversation; but demands or inferences intimating commentators can only “worship at the throne,” as cody seems to indicate, do not either. I understand many love the strip, there are also those of us who prefer the original premise and I say those opinions are equally valid and germane. It is not right for those who refuse to see any inadequacies in the strip to pat themselves on the back while putting down those who disagree or suggest they shut up and go somewhere else. I for one feel Pearls and Sherman’s Lagoon are far funnier, cleverer and topical. But I would not put down any of you for disagreeing with that! Kinda just trying to think of can’t we all get along? :-)

Actually, I thought we were all getting along just fine. I thought Cody was being polite. Colnell appears to be a troll, but the resulting comments were quite mild.

The pirate/dog/mice interaction is fairly unique, and presents unique situations. Though Pearls is accurately described as cutting edge, it also repeats itself quite a bit. Though Sherman’s L. is extremely well written, it is still a family dynamic with the wacky neighbors. Somehow, Chip has also avoided political and ethnic content, and created a strip with the most consistent controversy I’ve seen on this site.

I love that Louie always has something going on…. and I love the mice too!
I found this strip after my house burned down years ago in one of the huge fires in Southern California. The “OC Register gave us all free Subscriptions and along with Calvin and Hobbies this was what I read every morning to start my day with a smile and still does. So from my side of the paper … Fabulous !

Overboard is wonderful, and not having some of the original characters is okay. I tend to smile inside for a very long time after reading about Louie or Jonas or Charlie’s nemesis, the bunny(s) with the over-grown tail. Pearls makes me laugh out loud because Rat does what I just think about doing, but its the combination of the two, plus a Dilbert and a Fuzzy thrown in for balance, that strike the right chord for the day. We are blessed to have such great cartoonists working today.

Great strip chip. Enjoy it whatever the premise. Louis has found a gold mine of a dumpster. I’m surprised it wasn’t already full!
Hi Dry, Jfri, Doc and Rad! Risistas too!

brenzluv, I don’t understand your point, and
colnell, well, what can I say?
Brenzluv said, 5 months ago
I think I’m going back to my premise of weeks ago, that we can all agree to disagree, we can all comment favorably or unfavorably - whether about mice, cats, crow’s nest guys or whatever - and not have to be taken to task for daring to say we don’t find the mice, or the ridiculously large bunnies or anything else ludicrous and not as funny as others. I feel that statements like colnell’s are unproductive and personnally insulting and while free speech, they are unresponsible free speech. I have been taken to task many times in the past for expressing unfavorable comments about some of the strips, to include being told essentially that if I don’t like it, I can shut up and leave the Chip Adoration Society to their uncritical observations. I just feel that expressing a contrary opinion is our American right, and neither I nor other posters should be subjected to personal abuse like I have been in the past, just for expresssing a “discouraging word.”

Oh, and good Lord, Sherman has a family dynamic and Pearls often repeats it’s themes? Talk about pot calling the kettle black! he he! If the “pirates” don’t have a family dynamic and their brand of neighbors, what is it? And good old Chip repeats more themes, and jokes, than any other strip we are permitted in our limited Mid-Atlantic market. But I sure agree with that basic point that we are indeed blessed with a goodly number and variety of artists to appeal to all sorts of people.

Brenzluv, I must have missed something here! I’ve seen you post before, and I don’t recall anything horrible that you said. I hope I wasn’t one of the ones who insulted you, because I don’t remember if I did. I do like Overboard, it makes me smile everyday at the least and mostly makes me laugh out loud, repeat themes or notl! If you find something that brings a smile to your face every morning, what’s wrong with that? I think Chip does great work!
Brenzluv said, 5 months ago
Hi Dry, I don’t think I said anything horrible either! But others (and NO, not YOU!) apparently thought I did and there were comments to me to that effect. But hey, I never, never, never said there was anything wrong with Overboard bringing a smile to anyone’s face…that’s great! I just think it used to be way better, and that if I feel that a strip is sub par - to me - I should have the right to comment. That’s all…free to be you and me and all that, free to express and respect each other’s agreements and disagreements…for any of us! That’s all I ask! :-)
